Lately, many enthusiast cars have been disappearing into the vaults of investors and asset management firms. The rising price of analog classic cars has attracted those who seek to use them as a tool for profit rather than an object of passion. With so many supercar being stockpiled by hedge funds, will there be any left for regular drivers to enjoy?

Buying a car and not driving it to preserve the sale price has been equated to not sleeping with your girlfriend so the next guy can have fun. Now it’s a bunch of guys buying a part of a car that they don’t even get to see, touch, or hear, just to be tucked away until they all collectively agree to sell. Absolutely bonkers

This is a repeat of the late 80's. Anything remotely collectible was snapped up at inflated prices. Rough old original cars had quick and bad restorations by shady fly-by-nights that cut corners everywhere to get the cars to auction. The bottom will fall out in a series of step down auction failures. Guys that sit on a car waiting for it to recover prices "next year" will wake up and take a 40% bath. There is no good reason for a 2005 Ford GT to cost double MSRP, but that is where we are now. That said there are a few newer cars that I am confident will appreciate in the next few years.

I thought buying classics is a sure investment, but I never considered the cost of storage, maintenance and insurance. Thanks for opening my eyes man :)

I'm 58 and can relate to these cars however the youth around me are generally not into cars at all. I see a crash in these investment vehicles as sentiment subsides with the elderly boomers who embrace them.
