Frankly I find that it's far easier to sell high value items over the low value, it's far easier for some people to part with thousands on something than for others to spend at a few hundred. Those with a lot of money still have it, that's just a fact.

hi mate, thank you for your comment, i have always gone under that impression but i have found even my items in the 500 to 1k mark have dropped right down. i am not willing to sink ten k plus on high end items in the hope that they are eaiser to sell but if you can get up that level great you can give us all updates on how its going if your willing. i am hoping people read the comments and find useful tips

​@@AntiquesArena As you know experience and knowledge is the key to everything, and it really depends on what you're selling, but I've certainly found that selling off all the cheap things and buying only higher quality is the best strategy, but as you say this won't work for everyone.

Some useful advice, Walter. I know you don't list on eBay anymore, but I think you'd make more money if you did decide to dual list some of your items, especially the more specialist, unique ones where you ideally require a worldwide audience in order to potentially sell them. I say this, because dual listing worked an absolute treat for me when I used to list some of my items on both Facebook Marketplace and eBay. I was getting a constant stream of sales because I had two audiences. In fact, I was selling more via Facebook Marketplace and it wasn't costing me a single penny in fees or packaging etc. I also think you should maybe look at getting another smallish shop unit, very much like the first shop unit you had. I preferred that one over the second one you had. There you could sell a lot more jewellery and of course buy it with the view to selling it on for a profit. Although right now you probably don't want to look at having another shop because of the current economic climate and the cost of overheads etc., I still think you have a dream to open another Antiques Emporium because I know how passionate you were about it last time around. Never say never I guess and good luck with the buying and selling this year. I'm still without a car, so can't make it to the car boot sales at the moment. I do have a lot of my own items I can list on eBay and Facebook Marketplace though, which I will get around to listing soon enough.

hi mate, thank you very much for your comment. you never know i may one day open a massive centre. i wont go back to ebay. tbh mate i am absolutly fine but making sure i stay that way by doing cut backs and being more careful. i have no doubt i will see you and your brother again down sully one day. till then take care mate

Hí Walter - I was subscribed to you probably… 8-10 years ago now, but after abandoning my original account, must have forgot to resubscribe! You popped up on my recommendations today - glad to see you’re well. Interesting to hear you’re no longer on eBay - a good shout, I too have long since left it behind. Man… eBay has turned to ____, in my opinion - I don’t know what happened, but… it’s just not the same, fun place it once was, certainly not for sellers anyway, in my experience. Its the same here, accross the pond. Lots of Sellers, but not alot of Buyers. My mates are desperate to Sell to me, but, like you, Ive cut back some. I have plenty of stock. I still go out to the Flea, mostly because I enjoy the hunt, not because I really need the merchandise.

@AntiquesArena I spread my items out alot, Ebay, Mercari, Etsy. I also do a local antique show, the beginning of every month. Once in awhile I'll sell at the Flea, to clear stock. However, here in South Florida, the Heat is getting too much for the Flea, til at least October. It's simply Brutal mate.

Some good tips. spending time wisely, is something i struggle with. time is money and i find it difficult concentrating on any one task for too long. . another tip, is diversify and don't have all your eggs in one basket. the customer base is even more fragmented than ever and all the new selling sites popping up mean we have to work harder for the same profit.

When money is tight the first thing to stop being bought are luxuries and antiques are obviously a luxury,it’s simple economics.Hopefully the economy might pick up soon but I think there’s worse to come yet😣
