I have hit all 4 generations of this club and have had the 2021 p790 in the bag for almost a year now and when I went and hit the 2023 version I noticed quite a bit of difference in sound and do believe that they have quieted the click sound down quite a bit on this new version but as you said to each their own. 🙂👍🏼⛳️

I have the 2021 version (purchased last year) and am a big fan. Perhaps the only bit of buyer's remorse for me is not combo-ing with the P770 for better feel on the 8-PW for around the greens as I like to use different clubs depending on the shot. Love the format of your review, Andy. Please keep it up!

Great video! How would these compare to new t200 in terms of optimal numbers and distance in particular? Which would you prefer to game?

Nice review, seems about right to me. I like the new format and will look forward to seeing how consistent you apply these criteria across brands. In this review you indicate hollow body irons as a category lack in feel due to the construction. You also indicate you like the clean uncluttered look. However in the past you have praised the look and feel of PXG irons, which I also believe are a hollow body design and to my eye have a much more cluttered appearance. I wonder if you are considering a head to head comparison segment where you would use these criteria to compare irons in a similar category. Thanks for your excellent work!

Are these worth double the price of the takomo 101 or 101t? Looking to get new irons I have always liked the p790 but don't know now after seeing the takomo reviews over the past year or so.

I play the 2020 P 790's, sometime they don't seem that forgiving. The sound I agree with you it's like a thud or something. Like review.

This is why I like the new callaway apex pro is that they did the hollow body in the 3-4-5 and 6 iron but the 7-AW is a fully forged iron so it’s almost like a blended set within the set. Wish TAYLORMADE would do that with the p790 set instead of having to do a mixed set with the p770….

Thanks Andy, great review. I'm considering the P790s. I currently play to a 9 handicap (I'm 68 yrs. old) and hit my 7-iron around 155 - 160 yards. Also looking at the Cobra Forged Tec. How would you compare them?

A lot of similarities and you would need them side by side in a test to give an accurate answer

Cheers Andy. 2 questions (and I don’t mind other’s opinions here) High handicap but getting lessons and playing more. Is this a better option than a game improvement iron? What small golf bag was that on course. Looked nice

The easy one to answer - The bag is GFore , with regards the irons I simply say try them, it is such a difficult question to answer

Great review Andy. I have a set of the PXG Gen 3 P irons. Hollow-body design with excellent feel and sound. And they are incredibly easy to hit. Are these PXG irons the exception when it comes to the feel of hollow bodied clubs? I have also purchased a set of the Gen 5 T irons, currently changing the shafts and swing weights to match the Gen 3 set so I can blend them.

Good format Andy. Even though it is still subjective, a rating out of 5 or 10 might be useful to compare different clubs rather than just tick or cross?

I like the new review format, especially that you show dry ball data against your optimal numbers. When you get some more reviews out it might be useful to have a table of all the results of similar clubs as part of the video I have always liked the P790s, blade is just a bit too big for me - if I did not already play i210s, P770s would be a great alternative. I suspect if Andy had been swinging at 80mph the spin would have been a little down on his optimum numbers but I have always found the P790s and P770s to be clubs that spin a bit less than my i210s

Hopefully constructive criticism for the new format -- Check marks should be green and X's red. When looking at trackman data, numbers within acceptable parameters should be green and numbers are outside acceptable range should be red. Thanks

@@TheAverageGolfer just love the looks of them. While I can hit 8-pw blades excellent it's harder in the longer irons and doing the combo would definitely help may even go 150/200. I did have the second generation p790s and they was great btw

Interesting that the Costco-Kirkland models similar to these weren’t released in spring this year as expected. Probably because these were in development. Not sure these are worth the “upgrade” as the old TM’s still look and play quite well.

Checked out a 7 iron at the local pro shop today as they had a rep in. I have the 2021 P790s and from a looks and performance perspective, the 2021 not only look better but felt softer/better than this 2023 version. Similar to drivers (still rocking the sim2), technology progression is very limited and upgrading is really not required if you have clubs from the last 3 years in my opinion.

That's not the feedback I have received. Keep rocking your 2021 if you feel they are better. Most I have spoke either say no change or that the 2023 model has a better feel and are better looking. Nevertheless, you have a great set of irons and you will not notice any changes w/scoring. Peace.

My last set of pings cost me £425. And ive tried some newer irons by most manufacturers and they aren't much better, even tried the 790 770 and the sound and feel are awful especially what they cost.

@@paulmcgee1867 don't always believe the hype from the manufacturer's like these are our longest irons ever nonsense all they've done is delofted calling a 6 or even a 5 iron now a 7iron instead, given you the misconceptions you hit these irons longer than your own and that's a fact so buy buy buy

It’s the same swing for every club I test…..so I think the difference in sound is recognisable, contact at impact is what produces sound not the swing path 😘

How can taylormade charge £1200+ for 5-w when Wilson charge 500 less for the D9 forged, plus you get a club more ( 4iron) The D9 forged perform just as good as the taylormade. Yet again its down to a name and ppl being label snobs

Minor complaint with Taylor Made is not changing the name or adding something (R1, R2, etc.) so you know what version or year iron you’re looking at …🤔

Paying out £1200+ to upgrade to the new irons from last years model isn't gonna make you a better golfer or reduce your handicap. Paying out £1200 on lessons will make you a better golfer.

I understand the scepticism but there is a clear change in the structure of each iron from previous models, in that sense alone they are not the same?

Totally agree, I bet they still feel and sound not much better than the previous models, I don't believe all the hype try for your self are they better I doubt it very much.
