Thank you for watching my drifting guide for the roller beetle! It's something I've been meaning to make for a long time now, and the halloween event was what really pushed me to finally finish it.

I'm gonna see if I can get my wife to watch this, she struggles so much w/drifting and gets mad and won't race. And as we've established before, my method is way different and she hates it, so she may like this a lot better.

Thank you, I wasn't getting the drift in snowden drifts correctly enough at speed for the gold and after watching this, doing some remapping and getting used to the whole setup -> drift -> follow through thing I finally managed! Rolling Ace, here I come!

best explanation with the slow down and controls on screen. but i still cant get it. barely get through the first section before i get hung up on a bump or hit a wall and my speed goes to 0. i give up on trying to get the stupid Mad King achievement.

I was trying that very Halloween track to play with the beetle, and felt like I was *half* getting what it wanted out of me to control this thing. the camera affecting things was what I was missing. makes a lot more sense!

As a griffon flyer, I have always wanted to get good with the beetle it is without a doubt such a satisfying mount once you can get control over it!

Caught your videos on that BeetleRank 24h stream and figured I was missing something about the beetle, this guide cleared up what it was. I'm gonna rebind my drift key to a mouse button and practice these things, thanks for the tips. c: Love your outfit and beetle colors btw.

I wish anet would let us have different keybinds for each mount. I like to bind important mobility skills to space bar like dodging on foot or raptor leap, jackle teleport, or skyscales dash. But that forces me to use space bar for boost on roller beetle and I already have shift set to something else.

are there certain tracks that are good for training? i feel like i want a clean environment to start

I'd actually recommend trying a guild hall track. There are some good tracks that will help you learn to drift better. If you join the [RACE] discord server you can ask for an invite to a guild to access the track. I'd personally recommend [GDT].

I have a question. Why can't we drift or turn at all immediately after using the boost? This mechanism is what really messes me up. Is this just a limitation to the beetle or if there a way to force the beetle to turn that I'm missing?

It's an intentional design decision. You cannot start a drift while the beetle is boosting. The idea is that boosting is meant to accelerate you to max speed, but at the cost of some of your control of the beetle. You can turn during the boost, you'll notice that the turning rate of the beetle is noticeably lower while boosting. If you want to drift immediately after finishing a boost, you'll have to just learn the timing for when the boost ends. If you look carefully, you'll see that your character lowers a little bit while the boost is active, but will then go back up once the boost has ended. This is when you can begin drifting again. As for drifting during a boost, this can be done. It's called a hyperboost. I would not recommend trying this until you already have a good handling on the beetle, as this is an advanced technique.

To add to what Ary/Zema said i think it's because drifting is a flexible ability you manually trigger and release, and it's effect and duration are dependant on the player's attentiveness and how long you hold down your drift key, while the boost ability is something you tap once and what follows is a nigh unstoppable automatic sequence. Boost is like a skill that you can't stop or interrupt after it's activation and you just have to wait it out, jumping can hinder the acceleration but for that you need to separate the boost from your jump key. You can drift before activating a boost to then carry the drift into it to combine the two abilities, but you can't start a new drift during an already active boost because the boost isn't similarly flexible.

you can drift about 2 long straightaways after you boost if yer guild hall has beetle track decorations you can see for reference
