Judith Durham’s is the greatest, most stunningly beautiful voice in the history of recorded sound. One reviewer stated that hers was the best by a trillion miles, and I completely agree!.

The Carnival Is Over" Say goodbye my own true lover As we sing a lovers song How it breaks my heart to leave you Now the carnival is gone High above the dawn is waiting And my tears are falling rain For the carnival is over We may never meet again Like a drum, my heart was beating And your kiss was sweet as wine But the joys of love are fleeting For Pierrot and Columbine Now the harbour light is calling This will be our last goodbye Though the carnival is over I will love you till I die Like a drum, my heart was beating And your kiss was sweet as wine But the joys of love are fleeting For Pierrot and Columbine Now the harbour light is calling This will be our last goodbye Though the carnival is over I will love you till I die Though the carnival is over I will love you till I die..... NOTE: This song features the couplet "But the joys of love are fleeting/ For Pierrot and Columbine." Pierrot and Columbine were the names of two stock characters in the old Italian pantomime-like theatre known as del'arte Pierrot was a sad clown in love with the beautiful Columbine who breaks his heart by leaving him for Harlequin.

I saw them last week in Adelaide on their 50th anniversary tour but my wife needed to be back in the Philippines so sadly could not be with me. I've fixed it! Bought tickets for their last Aussie concert in Brisbane on December 4 and she'll be with me then. Judith's voice is as good or better now than in the 60's as incredible as that might be. Just wonderful!

Definitely playing it tuned down a half-step which is VERY common among bands who have been performing years. Tons of top artists do it and no biggie - the voice just doesn't stay the same forever, we all know that. It still kicks ass though and is better than 99.99% of the crap on radio today.

I think I probably heard Carnival for the first time (can't remember) when it was sung at the Olympics/Paralympics - I remember thinking even then the use of this sad, sad ballad was quite clever - the Games were their own Carnival that were over :-( I didnt know The Seekers used to close concerts with it back then.
