Traditionally bad committee decisions are the worst ever this year. Give the automatic bid to the regular season champ. Play the tournaments for fun and money.

It'll never happen, though it should. If they are so concerned about getting the best teams in (which they go to great pains to tell us they are; they've even invented a "scientific" method to tell us who played the toughest schedules, LOL) then they should give the automatic bids to the teams that showed they were the best in their conferences over the long haul of a season. But they are about the cash grab, so the conference tourneys need to be about more than fun. Sad situation.

As bad as the BIG East and MWC situations are, the most egregious screw up of this committee is putting so many of the best teams in the East. I had three of my FF picks in one bracket. For the Selection Committee to screwup so badly makes me think politics are involved

March, I totally agree with your analysis of the Mountain West….except. You put San Diego State ahead of Utah State. Why? Before Jan 13 SDSU had 2 losses and USU had 1. Granted, SDSU losses were to better teams but the only USU loss was the 2nd game with a new coach and ALL new players. The coach used it like a preseason game to experiment with lineups and different combinations of players. Regardless…from January 13th on, deep into conference games, SDSU lost 7 games vs 4 for USU, and they traded home wins against each other. USU won the Mountain West Conference with a conference record of 14-4(overall 27-6)while SDSU was 5th in the conference with a record of 11-7, including 2 loses to Boise State who USU BEAT twice. USU had the Coach of the year, player of the year, and co-6th man of the year which tell you who the coaches in the conference thought was best. The only thing San Diego had over USU is they beat them in the tournament…but you play more then one game and they would probably swap wins. Then SDSU lost the next game to 6th in conference New Mexico, a good team but an arguably worse loss. I am tired of hearing the words”Body of work” when I see a team in the same conference treated so differently. Then San Diego State gets a 5 seed and USU an 8 seed??? With Purdue as a potential game 2. How on earth does the selection committee come to this conclusion and how do you rank them ahead of USU?? . Oh…and USU finished the season well ahead of SDSU in the NCAA top 25 on both AP and Coaches poll.

I think the reason FAU got leverage, is because they jumped right into a new conference and got 2nd place, and won big non conference games, they are a little inconsistent, but when they are not, they are tough, but you only got the rest of today to cry about it

I have not heard a fair argument for the Big East getting shafted. Providence has no quad 3 or 4 losses too.. so that argument doesn't hold water. UConn #1 overall in a region that by kenpom is head and shoulders harder than any other.

It's just a money thing, the committee cares much more about the amount of eyeballs watching than having the most deserving teams in. It unfortunately isn't going to change either. Football schools have way more sway, no matter how good or bad they are.

Thoughts on the NCAA basketball tournament selection process. I know that many of you are college basketball fans and every year look forward to the NCAA Tournament. Many are heartbroken at their team not getting selected by the committee to play. Valid arguments are made as to the committee member’s bias, team and tournament tradition and past performance and the money generated by large or small markets, etc. This not only applies to “what teams get in” but to a team’s tournament seeding as well as where and who they play. Most of us believe that the determining metrics used by the selection committee are wrong and more subjective than objective. They are. Manipulation really is the order of the day. Living in Albuquerque, I follow and root for the University of New Mexico Lobos and the Mountain West Conference. (MWC). We were all so happy that San Diego State (SDSU) got to the championship game last year. It gave great credibility to the conference. This year the MWC was deserving of and received six bids to the tournament. The seeds received by the MWC teams are very questionable but, never-the-less, play on and let’s go! I will mention San Diego State as an illustration of what is mentioned above though. SDSU, which has been the best team in the conference over the years, placed fifth in the regular season standings and was runner-up in the post season conference championship tournament. This is a testament to the MWC toughness this year. I do, however, take issue with SDSU receiving the highest conference seed. (5th) I don’t take issue with SDSU receiving a five seed. Perhaps they are deserving of it. They are not, however, the best team in the league this year. This is a perfect demonstration of the committee’s bias and belittles the performance of the teams that finished ahead of them. I feel compelled to offer one suggested change that should be adopted. Teams play fourteen or more regular season games which, in the end, become meaningless for so-called one-bid leagues in determining whether or not a team gets into the NCAA Tournament. I strongly believe that the regular season champion should get to the DANCE. Season ending conference tournaments are exciting and offer additional revenue and clarity to the selection committee for at-large bids but should not be the determining factor for entrance into the NCAA Tournament. It is conceivable that a last place regular season team could displace an undefeated conference team. This is just plain “WRONG”. As just one case in point, North Carolina State is in the tournament with fourteen losses and having finished tenth in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Not to slight their effort in the conference tournament, which was admirable, they just should not be in the Dance. They have displaced far more deserving teams. Reader comments are welcome.

No doubt. Just like the sec in football, the big east is top-heavy. Year after year the same thing - If seeds should've been given to the big east, take them away from St. Peters(who?) or other eastern schools. Let's try the method of "every conference champ gets a seed" in the CFP and see how that turns out.

MWC was one of the reason why SH, St. John’s, and providence got screwed. This is a reason why I officially hate and have no respect for MWC. Add FAU for losing to a TRASH Temple team who gout caught fixing their own games. To be fair that might be more egregious. MWC and FAU are getting all this hype and coddlement dimly from last years overrated Cinderella run facing terrible teams choking to top seeds prior. It’s ironic after one team SDSU makes the final, the NCAA tries to shove this conference like they are perfect and vastly superior to the BE and teams like SH even though they beat UCONN BY 15 F*******ING POINTS and was 13-7 4th place ina vastly superior conference. I do not get what is going on and tried of analytics now going to CB selection processes. I thought it was just for stats and analyzing players and teams but not unfairly selecting if esbejng teams over deserved teams kn a major tournament. Also for these knownit all MWC fanboys, k checked what these so called “tournament” teams played and their non cons don’t impress me at all. 1st place Utah state played no body non on and they are happily win. Wtf man. SDSU and Nevada are okay but these programs are not even close to schools like Illinois or even Creighton. I don’t know if there is corruption but this conference is ruining the integrity of conference play and CBB because they abuse their metrics and their leaders are probably try Harding so bad to get success into basketball since they are mid in football so they manipulate the system shamefully to get what they want. It’s so obvious who should’ve been in or not. Also big 10, Pac 12, and ACC also deserves obvious shit but there is lots to get irate about.

Maybe take a look at the history of teams in the MWC before you speak? USU, Nevada and New Mexico have all made the Sweet sixteen in the last decade which outside of teams like Gonzaga from the WCC is more common and certainly from a diversity standpoint than other mid-major conferences. Take last year out of the picture, how is Boise State effectively the last team making the tourney? They have a 22-10 record with 6-5 Q1, 3-4 Q2, 3-1 Q3, and 8-0 Q4 records. Their worst OOC loss is Butler in wk 4 tourney play. They have wins over St Marys, VCU Northwestern and Nevada, SDSU, CSU and New Mexico. Last week they had the most votes of unranked teams to make the T25 by ap and coaches. So how in the world does that translate to #68, because they lost in the quarterfinals of their tournament?
