There are 3 others running. I know it doesn't look like that and it's a huge problem that we have. This is technically just the Republicans and Democrats picking their representatives. We won't hear from Independents or other small parties representatives for a couple months, which is a big problem and a reason none have ever won. By the time they have a chance to speak in public, most people have already picked who they are voting for from one of these two parties. Some have already mailed in their vote for president before a debate even happens, and the actual campaign for president begins. It's actually one of the reasons Trump ran as a Republican in 2016. He's not dumb and wasn't going to miss 6 months of publicity. RFK has been trying to beat this system and is doing better than the other indipendant candidates thanks to the Internet and him doing commercials during the Superbowl but there are huge problems with our system, everyone being denied the same amount of time in front of the voters being a big one. I like France's rules on campaigning because, the truth is, if you vote for someone outside of these 2 parties, it is very likely a wasted vote.

Then he hid out in his basement for a few months and was magically appointed the nominee. There was no vote on this. He was chosen. The last time they had a primary was in 2016 where Bernie Sanders won by a huge margin so Hillary fixed it so she would win. After that they shut down the voting so that sort of thing can't happen again. Gotta deny people the right to vote if we want to "save democracy" right?

Sure it is. But the president only really needs to steer, not run. There are plenty of people there to run things day-to-day, the presidents job is to figure out when to change things or react to whatever new circumstances might arise and if he's not available (or "available" mentally), there are a chain of people who can make those decisions. President is pretty much the human version of a letter of intent without any actual obligations to how things are actually run after the election is won. Without a capable president (like the last two), the ship so to speak just keeps going in whatever direction it was left in. Which arguably is fine on most levels. However, since most Americans only seems to care about gas prices there are things that could be done to bring those down which probably should be considered (not that it will actually make cost of living cheaper, it will just get people to shut up about gas prices), but hey we can't expect actual things from a president.

For me it was the Biden performance in his 2008 presidential debate. In there he talked about how if we cut and run in Afghanistan it would be a disaster. Once in office, what did he do? A disastrous withdrawal. What actually went down followed the script he laid out.
