Well if the creators didn’t want to use her as love interest for other character but still keep her around a villain makes most sense. The execution was an issue however. Hopefully there is another power broker she is working with or she has another plan or is a Scull. But it seems unlikely, at least before the reception of the movie was seen.

There's a scene in the film that doesn't just contradict this theory, it contradicts your whole premise. Zemo is in an airport and hears that Cap has escaped custody... and it makes him angry. Meaning it WASN'T his plan for Cap to escape, recruit Bucky and fight Tony in Siberia... because of course it wasn't, that's absurd. The ONLY thing Zemo needed was to find the tape of Tony's parents. That's it. He tried to get the location from the Hydra guy, but he wouldn't talk. So instead Zemo set up Bucky, triggered his conditioning, and found out the tape was in Siberia. Once in Siberia, he made the call back to Germany so the authorities would discover what he'd done, and the Avengers would come for him. Then, obviously, he would show them the tape. That isn't a crazy, 4D chess, Skyfall/Dark Knight-esque plan. It's relatively simple. The Sokovia Accords had nothing to do with Zemo's plan. Cap not signing had nothing to do with it. The airport fight had nothing to do with it, etc. Sure, a number of things went Zemo's way, but he didn't NEED them to for his plan to work. The only plot hole I've heard so far is that Bucky could have been killed instead of captured, but presumably Zemo would have just taken that in his stride and searched for another way - like he did after his Hydra plan failed at the beginning of the film. Can anyone tell me what the other plot holes are in Zemo's plan?

I was about to make a post until I read this. I agree, Zemo didnt have some crazy, multi-layered, complex plan with any plot holes. He literally just wanted to tear the avenger apart from a psychological perspective and he totally succeeded. Civil War is a Marvel movie where the bad guy wins. Hands down. He even killed the other super soldiers so they WOULDN'T kill anyone else. Zemo was an extremely well thought out and written character that had a very simple plan that he pulled off while all that other stuff just happened to be going on at the same time. Was going to add that, in a sense, he wasnt even the bad guy in this film.

While I agree with your first point (Zemo had no guarantee that Bucky would be taken alive). The rest I'm not so sure about. Zemo's plan was to get the proof that Bucky killed Tony's parents, and then deliver that information when it would do the most damage. But that could've been at ANY time in the future. It was a lucky break that Cap, Bucky and Tony showed up in Siberia, but it wasn't essential to his plan. The argument over the Accords helped him, but his plan didn't rely on it. All that being said, Carter being revealed as a hydra sleeper agent who helped Zemo every step of the way would've been very cool to see. And it would've given Steve the same feeling of betrayal, Tony felt about Steve's keeping the truth from him. Good work!
@satkirankaur5506 жыл бұрын
Scott Gray I totally agree and saw that Zemo's plan was to find something that would drive a wedge between the Avengers principally those In leadership roles. The Sokovia Accords just allowed him to embellish his plans and the arrival of his prime targets at the Siberian Base made him impliment the use of the video of Bucky killing Tony's parents earlier than intended.
@hgwells18996 жыл бұрын
Scott Gray "and it would've given Steve the same sense of betrayal" yes, love that damaged Cap idea. Especially if, during the Siberia base "sleeper agent" reveal, Sharon has Cap at gunpoint...torn by her feelings and her programming, she fights the kill command but...just...isn't...strong enough - one-armed Bucky shoots her dead. Boom! Only the Infinity War can bring Steve back to the Avengers now... ; )
@greatscott34706 жыл бұрын
Not a bad way for that scenario to play out Wells. Not bad at all. A friend of mine has a channel that does a lot of videos about these kind of scenarios. It's called Fix-The-Flick. You should check it out.
@drkpaladin7776 жыл бұрын
I agree, Zemo's plan was interesting because it didn't need to play out in any specific way. That's the cool thing about him as a villain. Once his true motives are revealed, you realize that no matter what happened, he would have succeeded. Had Bucky died, Cap been arrested, or he himself been caught... he would have succeeded. You might ask, why go after Siberia anyways? In case he failed to put a wedge in the team with the bombing and framing of Bucky. In that situation, the other super-soldiers might have been useful. But because they weren't, he just closed that loop and went for the face to face reveal instead.
@satkirankaur5506 жыл бұрын
drkpaladin777 There is an old saying I think from World war II "No plan survives an encounter with the enemy". That is to say no matter how brilliant your plan it, falls apart when your opponent responds in an unexpected manner therefore the plan must have flexibility to adapt to circumstances. This was how I saw Zemo's plan was meant to work and shows a more smarter and analytical approach which in turn made him a better villain.
@colleenlongua97525 жыл бұрын
Can we just appreciate Sharon Carter as a good supporting character. Zemo's plan wasn't actually that convoluted. He had to change a lot of things in his plan so it would work. He was patient and meticulous which made him an interesting villain. Sharon was an interesting side character who added to the plot in her own way.

This isn't really entirely true. Sam agreed with Steve's reasons for being against the Accords. The shot is Steve is sitting down in the middle of the composition, reading the Accords, with Sam and Rhodey arguing behind him. Sam against and Rhodey for.(By the way I believe Steve is actually the only Avengers we are shown reading through the Accords--he has an eidetic memory and pretty sure speed reading is one of his enhancements:)--we can only assume the others read them, but we know Steve's disagreement is based on things he's seeing on the page) So Steve and Sam both basically had the same idea about the Accords and were against them from the start. Hawkeye was on Cap's team in the fight, not just because it was Cap, he never at any point shows any of that worshipful attitude towards Steve, not from their first film together. Steve asked him to break out Wanda, who was being imprisoned having not been charged with a crime but just because "hey we don't like her" basically. Clint definitely would NOT have been fine with Wanda just being locked up like that, Clint brought her into the Avengers in a way when he gave her that speech in Sokovia about "if you walk out that door, you are an Avenger). So I think it's safe to say Clint would be against any treaty that would imprison one of them with no charges or legal access, particularly ones he feels a personal obligation to(due to her brother dying to protect him). I'm pretty sure if Wanda was ever even thinking about being "for" the Accords that went out the window when she found out she was locked up without her knowledge and she came to the conclusion that the Accords side were trying to play on her own fears to get her to do what they wanted her to do. Thus her line about "I can't control others fears, only my own". So Scott Lang, Ant-man is the only who is just there because "it's Captain America"(possibly he was kind of punchy from jet lag) not any different from Peter Parker, except he is a 40 year old man making his own adult decisions and not a 15 year old kid and he didn't have one of the richest most famous men in the world in his living room, flirting with his aunt, offering him bribes of money and technology and when that didn't work threatening to tell his Aunt about what he was really doing in his spare time. :)

God of Light True, Hank Pym hates all things Stark or SHIELD and distrusts Tony based on apples and trees. Pym has a lot of issues(feels hereditary) with trust. He can be a real golem about his precious tech; Hank Pym would be (OMG😲 under Sharon×Zemo control!!!) unaware of Scott Lang's decision to aid Captain America. Pym is an egotistical control freak who wouldn't risk it without trying to call the shots. He is more a team player by the end of Ant-man but not by much. Scott has already received new gear and training to go big by the time he meets Cap. There is a small jump in time at the end of Ant-man as he is being recruited via third parties, seeing as how Ant-man's end credit scene is in Civil War after the s has already hit the fan. FYI I TOTALLY CAME UP WITH SOMETHING THE VID MISSED WHILE WRITING THIS 😮
@shwnshts94696 жыл бұрын
Actually the thing the vid doesn't get is this isn't Cap worship so much as Stark envy at play. Sam(almost) and Bucky being the exception (Sam is only an exception bc of your points about his debate with Rhodey). Almost all of team Cap either has a legit grudge, bone to pick,or biased distaste for Stark. Tony has everything. On top of that, he has the suit. They don't hate Ironman so much as Tony Stark. Cept Pepper. Pepper hates IM and likes Tony. In fact thats all of team Stark. 😰OMG

@capacamaru6 жыл бұрын
Zemo doesn't need a team, or a plan. He is using his espionage training to go specifically for his target, which is information. After his family was killed, he scoured the released Hydra files for any cracks in the Avengers armor. He put together the data on Howard Stark and the Winter Soldier. Then he just needed proof. So he goes about trying to track down anyone involved in the Winter Soldier program. We don't know how many leads like this he has had to follow, but we catch up with him as he interrogates the Hydra agent. Its possible he has gone through many such agents to get to this one, who seems to have had reasonably high rank in the program. He doesn't get what he wants, probably because the agent only kept the most important and transportable/hide-able pieces of information, ie. the command phrases and other Winter Soldier operational data in the red book. With the book he formulates a new plan, to interrogate Barnes with the book to gain access to any relevant hardcopy archives or facilities related to the program. He engineers Bucky's capture after establishing his entry strategy. The Winter Soldier is his escape plan. Then he just needs to get to where he's going, and attract the Avengers attention. Bucky's escape jeopardizes this, but then he only has to get there BEFORE the Avengers, which he does handily. But none of it really matters, because I don't think Zemo really cared if he was captured or killed.

It’s funny how people forget that Zemo is a trained military soldier. To get to his rank he would have had to find ways to piece together a plan, adapt and execute. Repeat. Zemo didn’t just walk from one place to another. He had to gather information, from many sources. All that said, the Sheron Carter reveal would have been a stroke of genius. The great things is I do believe this was the original plan (yes it would have helped Zemo’s credibility) and that it can still be done. I wouldn’t be surprised if Marvel ended Avengers 4 with Sharon killing Cap. Cut to Black Widow movie of Sharon being Madam Hydra and Natasha vowing to kill her.

If they do end up doing Secret invasion, Sharon would be the perfect person to be revealed as the Skrull Queen. First off, everything she does from this video could be taken as "the Skrulls putting fuel onto the fire". She might not even be working directly with Zemo, but instead is just aware enough of the plans of all sides (possibly through a network of Skrull spies) for her to subtly control the sequence of events. Secondly, she is someone who is intrinsically trustworthy, even though we know very little about her. Her relation to Peggy is a key part of this, targeting Steve's emotional weak point so she can become a part of his life without forcing it.

I REALLY loved "Civil War"...(watched it SEVERAL times on Netflix)....and I really like this theory. More so, if this is true, I liked how sneakily Marvel pulled it off. However, If they had revealed it in-film, it definitely would've filled the major plot hole in the film for me, which was how conveniently Zimo's plan KEPT coming together. But on the other side of that token, if it was true and revealed, it would be kinda heart-wrenching. Cap loses Peggy, and his only consolation is her EXTREMELY- attractive niece. Cap has stayed committed to Peggy, and hasn't entertained any other love interests (even Black Widow), and now Peggy's gone. You want Cap to find someone, and Sharon is perfect. If she had then turned out to be scheming against him...SMH. Then again, when Cap made the comment at the elevator scene to Sharon, Claiming she was "spying" on him in "Winter Soldier", her only response was that she was "You mean when I was doing my job?'.. That response always bothered me. It always seemed kinda cold and unapologetic. With this theory, it makes sense that she was just "doing her job", but instead, under the employ of Zimo. Thanks for this!
@lizapb6 жыл бұрын
Sharon perfect? Because she is related to Peggy? WTF? She is an awfully written character, who doesn't share any important values with Cap. If she had nothing to do with Zemo, she comes off as a stupid fangirl. No, thanks, Cap deserves much better love interest. The fact that Sharon is literally forced into the movies as consolation prize for Cap, because he can't have Peggy, is icky and extremely disrespectful towards both female characters. Women are not interchangeable. I also don't find her look in CW very attractive with that hideous vest and thin hair.

Here's a thought... What exactly is it that is telling us that Agent 13 is Sharon Carter and Peggy's niece at all? Cap literally doesn't know that until she speaks at Peggy's funeral and a funeral is not a very hard target for infiltration. Peggy was a childless career woman whose close confidants are probably all dead. What if Agent 13 simply adopted that persona specifically as a way to play on Cap's inherent trust and desire to preserve some part of his connection to the loved ones he left behind. That's diabolical.

after watching this video, you do have some valid points for sure. however, zemos plan wasnt as bad as people think. once zemo got ahold of the tape, he literally couldve done anything with it. he couldve put it on tony starks twitter if he wanted. the fact iron man showed up WITH cap and bucky was the happiest of accidents. well for zemo at least. all zemo wanted to do, was destroy the Avengers from the inside. he wanted to frame bucky, and get him arrested so he can get close to him and turn him into the winter soldier, and from there, he could get the information he needed to find out about tonys parents. so once he does, he immediately leaves for siberia.. also, when cap shows up to bucky, cap was probably just saying "they arent planning on taking you alive..." because thats what cap was told, when in reality that could never have been true because they wouldve shot and killed cap bucky and falcon instead of arresting them, and maybe war machines presence there stopped that from happening, but i highly doubt they wouldve shot bucky on site if he surrendered, and he would have surrendered if surrounded. it wasnt about "hmm cow can i get cap and tony to hate eachother and bring down the avengers?" it was about using bucky as a catalyst. he knew *the winter soldier* killed tonys parents, and knew the winter soldier was james barnes, and also knew James barnes was caps best friend, and so he used that. its actually really simple and quite genius actually. there are some small holes here and there, but nothing like some other movies. this was at least plausible, and there are many different reasons and events that cause certain things to go one way or the other, so i personally believe its up to interpretation. if you think zemos plan wouldve fallen apart, i respectfully disagree, but that is okay, because after all, its just a movie.

I've been pretty disappointed with how they've treated MCU's Sharon Carter. She's been a core part of Cap's side characters but when it comes to the movies there's barely anything to the character. I've loved what the Russo's have done with Black Widow in their movies but it feels like her parts in them should've always gone to Sharon.

Snehil Shrey How would Zemo know that Cap and Bucky would go to that base and that Iron Man was going to follow them at the specific moment needed for them to show up at around the same time to fight? And that no other Avenger would come along? Seems pretty weird. While I don't think Zemos plan is as overly convoluted as Luthor's in BvS and liked the film much better - I never felt like the plan was as genius as it was supposed to be.

Pitschi Pitschi Popo - He didn't "KNOW". He left them a trail to follow and it was logical they would try to catch the true bomber for jail and explanation reasons. However it didn't matter if nobody ever went there. He would simply upload the thing, email it, post it etc. etc. They set up from his first scene that he had more than one plan and steps to take if any plan fails. We see a plan fail and him switch to the next one. People assume in the wrong direction. Like those who thought the plan was to be able to blow up a tube train to distract Bond as Silva escapes. No the tube was due at the time of escape and was to be blown up. Silva's escape plan partially failed and he used the already scheduled bombing to escape. Silva wasn't lucky a tube came by, he was unlucky Bond caught up to him so quickly. Zemo wasn't lucky they went to that place, it was a well laid invite that merely gave him the pleasure of a face to face. He was able to get Stark the video regardless.

I still find it creepy that Steve is dating or wants to date his former flames much much younger niece even though Cap is physically and mentally closer to her age. Being frozen for decades makes most sexual relationships creepy.
@lizapb6 жыл бұрын
It was just one kiss as a payment to her help. They aren't dating. Steve is on the run with BW and Sam, Sharon is nowhere to be seen. He kissed that blonde girl in TFA without any desire to date her.

@blitzkriegdragon0136 жыл бұрын
It's not that creepy. He was attracted to her before he knew she was her niece. After that, they're the same age and Cap even said that who was and who he is are two different people. He didn't date her because she's her niece, that was just coincidence.
@rocketgroot81716 жыл бұрын
It was definitely creepy. And it was definitely not a coincidence. People need to pay attention. He was attracted to Kate, the nurse, not Sharon, the SHIELD agent. And as soon as he learned she was lying to him about everything, he ceased to be interested in her and moved on. The cold "neighbor" from him said it all. And then Natasha ASKED him to call her and he didn't. He forgot about her for two years. He thought about Peggy and only Peggy in AoU. UNTIL he found out Sharon is related to Peggy. It was badly executed and only showed that Steve is projecting his feelings for Peggy on Sharon. He even says "It was late" - the line he and Peggy used while flirting.
@blitzkriegdragon0136 жыл бұрын
Rocket Groot I didn't think of any of that while watching the movie. I just thought they knew it was awkward but wanted to give it a chance. I just took it at face value and was happy Cap someone actually found someone he liked. I prefer it that way honestly.

Not to mention Wanda being put on unofficial houst arrest by those that are supporting the accords. That act alone would have convinced him to join Cap since he basically was the one who inducted Wanda into the avengers
@RobynHarris6 жыл бұрын
I agree. During the Zemo interrogates Bucky scene, Natasha took note of the fact the Sharon had turned on the restricted audio and was allowing Steve and Sam to hear the interrogation. So, Sharon was clearly helping (manipulating?) Cap. That was how Natasha knew to follow Sharon to find Cap and Bucky.

The worst bit of the now-common issue with 'brilliant' villains having ridiculously complicated plots that rely heavily on luck - is that you can easily fix that in script-writing: by writing the story, then adding needed bits to the opening retroactively to fill in gaps in the villain. When having a clever villain is this fucking important to a plot - when the entire movie hinges on the villains competency to build up the hero's ability and accomplishment - it's worth reading your script again and adding a couple lines to the villain development at the start. A good example of where this is also true, but interestingly exempt - is The Dark Knight. On a regular viewing, a lot of Jokers plan hinged heavily on luck. But they actually fixed that with very important scene - Joker creating Two Face. With that, they not only showed Joker doing the background dirty work of 'making coincidences happen', but they also used the scene to explain that this was Joker's design all along - make your own luck - but make it appear like luck. From that point onward, it's clear that everything that appears to be lucky for Joker - was actually probably the result of him setting up pieces off-screen. All the plot holes that might have otherwise been explained by luck? Actually Joker's elaborate design, meticulous planning, super-power charisma, etc. He pretends he leaves thing to chance - because chance sells his narrative that the world is a shit place and Batman is lying to himself that people are ultimately good. Without the hospital bed scene, I think the Dark Knight would actually have felt a lot more sloppy - and particularly Joker as a villain - but with that scene - the audiences mind exploding occurs in perfect sequence with the hospital exploding. The Joker is drawing cards from a stacked deck: appearing random, but carefully counted.

The biggest thing Zemo relied on was Cap not telling Iron Man about the tape. That to me is his biggest potential mistake, because what if Cap told Tony way in the beginning? Zemo relied heavily on something he hoped hadn't happened and it paid off, but if cap had been a good friend and told tony from the stark then the siberia scene would be very different
@ksaunders43625 жыл бұрын
And that makes Steve out to be a coward. Which he isn't. Given how he reacted to his teammates not telling him things, I just don't see him not telling Tony the truth. It makes him out to not only be a coward, but a hypocrite, and that's just not the Steve we've come to know over the course of the movies. It's just terrible characterisation. It's why CW annoys me so much.

I was going to post this, but then I had a feeling that someone already would have. The Skrulls would just be interested in knocking down sources of power, to make future invasion easier. Hydra was one such source of power. The Avengers is another.

2:13 I think thats the point though. Neither side is looking for a fight. Tony needs a team to capture Caps team to get them to sign the accords. Cap needs a team that can forget about the accords and stop Zemo from unleashing the winter soldiers. The airport fight happens because they have no choice but to fight each other to achieve their goals.

What a great amount of research and thought went into this theory! Nicely done! I think that it would have made Zemo's "luck" more plausible, too. And a better story, with a real zinger shocker at the end. I do not buy it, however. To explain Sharon's kindness towards Steve, loyalty to SHIELD, and not switching sides by saying that (like with Bucky) Hydra hadn't "turned the mind control back on" yet, is weak. Zemo had to go through SO many steps to be able to get close enough to Bucky to "reactivate" him. When did he get close to Sharon to do so? Nope. But I loved the vid and will share it with many!
@queendsheena16 жыл бұрын

@Crick19526 жыл бұрын
I love it as head cannon but I think it would have actually interfered with the story if they had revealed it in the movie. It would have made it feel somewhat cheap and lessened the crux of the movie, that this fight would probably have happened anyway. Zemo, an ordinary man with a special set of skills, just gave them a push. It would be an awesome reveal for the future though
@Duiker366 жыл бұрын
I can reconcile the two: you just need to make it so that Zemo knows what Carter will do. She doesn't need to be a sleeper agent, in that case. She just needs to be predictable. You still need to figure out how he knows about her, but that's easier to justify (oh, who's the agent that SHIELD had watching Cap's back? Huh, this Carter lady) than explaining how they teamed up, which basically involves creating an entirely new persona underneath the on-screen one.
