Absolutely agree. Walton's Goggins portrayal of Shane is probably the greatest performance television has ever witnessed. Amazing actor.

That speech Chiklis gave about Goggins at 5:20 is dead on. Goggins was fucking unbelievable in this show. Such an underrated actor its criminal. He was fucking incredible.

This and the Wire are no doubt the cream of crop. But I wouldn't say one is better than the other personally, it's a matter of taste is all. They're definitely both among the best that's unquestionable. But if I was forced to choose, I'd have to go with the Wire. McNaulty and Freeman are my favorite cop characters. Just so believable and relatable. Not to mention Omar and Marlo. Such fantastic characters. Not that this show didn't have an incredible cast of characters, it's just in my opinion every single one of the actors on that show were the best of the best!

When people talk about the greatest shows of the Golden era of TV, it’s Sopranos, the Wire, Breaking Bad, GoT, and so on. The Shield doesn’t seem to get as much love. Maybe cuz it was on FX. Whatever the reason, IMO this is a top 5 all time television show. The acting and writing are incredible. Casting is perfect. Camera work and style is raw and exactly as it should be. The tension just builds and builds without any filler being stuffed in. Vic Mackey is one of the greatest leads in any show or movie. Dutch is incredibly perfect. C.C.H. Pounder plays the part to perfection. Walton Goggins brings Shane to life. All of them really. I hope this show gets the credit it deserves and is rewatched and streamed forever. “Ronald Gardocki, you’re under arrest”. “Arrest? For what”? “FOR THE LAST THREE YEARS”.

@@kendallrivers1119 the wire for lack of a better term is one of the most “real” or authentic shows ever created. But at the same time tells a great fictional over arching story. The characters are amazing and Baltimore itself is really a character too. However, I’ll be the first one to say it, even though it’s my all time favorite show, there are shows that are on its level. I almost hate how saying the wire is the best show ever cuz it sounds pretentious.

This show was one of the few shows that stayed consistent from Pilot to Finale. There were the standard come-and-go's from cast, but the show feels like the same show in every single episode. The acting from these people cemented my image of them so much that even when they play on another show, all I see is their shield character. Especially Walton Goggins and Jay Karnes.

Just finished watching it again for maybe the 9th or 10th time, but the best part was my wife was a noob so I got to enjoy her excitement and eventual horror as the show progressed. Best show ever made imo.

That’s a solid top four the best show imo is the wire though. My top four would be 1. The wire 2. Game of thrones 3. Six feet under 4. Mr robot I’d have the shield at number 7, Dexter at number 17, and sopranos at 13 all are absolutely incredible shows. I guess I need to watch shameless

Most of the actors on The Shield this will be absolute best thing they're ever a part of or at least in the discussion of the best thing they ever do. Walton Goggins it will be either The Shield or Justified that is the best thing he's a part of. Michael Chiklis, David Reed Snell, Kenny Johnson, Benito Martinez, Jay Karnes, Catherine Dent, Paula Garces and others it's clearly the best thing they'll ever be in. Honestly being in a show that's half as good as The Shield should be considered an honor for any actor.

Until I watched this, I thought bb was greatest and I was wrong! The shield was amazing for the times and even now. There couldn’t have been a Walter white, a Rick grimes, a tuco Salamanca, a gus fring, a Harry Bosh, a money chandler and many more if there was no vic Mackey!

There was great irony in this finale. In season six of Homicide: Life on the Streets (which Clark Johnson starred in, along with directing a couple episodes), at the end we find Detective Kellerman, played by Reed Diamond, facing justice in the interrogation room for killing drug lord Luther Mahoney. Here, after the entire run of the Shield, Vic is finally facing possible justice for, among other things, the killing of Terry Crowley. Who was played by none other than Reed Diamond.

In the final season there was a federal agent who didn't like Vic and went to his hearing to ensure his early termination. This was the same actor who played a detective when Tommy was accused of killing his wife and kid. Did the character join a federal agency or is this a writing error?

@@bigfatgaming5795 watch it man fr, i hope u didn't see much from this video as it contains heavy spoilers about the series, but even if you did catch some of them - watch The Shield. it's one of my most pleasant experiences with the TV - extremely fascinating and riveting, having devoted enough time to all of it characters that they feel to be that much 'real' (although i know this word is often used) people that they are clearly distinct from all the other TV characters in my head and each time i watch this show -- all of them have so many different qualities and motivations that you will have plenty of fun time just living in that world trying to wrap your head about it. supporting cast plays just as much vital role to the story as the main cast and you can never guess where will the craziness of it all go. don't listen to all those folks who say The Sopranos is above all else, here you have the king (i'm just joking, it's entirely up to you what piece is better than the other, but really - The Shield is one of the few pieces of culture that i would be crazy about). just watch the pilot, it's considered by the large public one of the best pilot episodes out there and when you watch it, you really know what you will have to deal with

I would argue that both the Shield and the Aire really aren't "cop shows", the fact that their protagonists happen to be cops is just incidental. they are ultimately dramas, one about institutions, one about consequences. In terms of a pure Cop Show™, where it's clear that that is both the theme and the substance, I think Southland is the best of the modern era.

Season 1 SOA was arguably the best but overall SOA is more edgy, unrealistic and less compelling that The Shield - u will notice it’s Sutter’s show through and through so the writing is a reflection of what happens when he’s not challenged by anyone on his outlandish ideas.

I still think that 'The Wire' is the best serial TV show ever made but its difficult to think of a single character portrayal than Walton's Shane Vendrell. The arc, the nuance as well as the emotion he put into this is IMO second to none.

I remember hearing at the time when Shane killed his family and offed himself was similar to the wrestler Chris Benoit doing almost the same thing and they kind of took that and incorporated it into the last show.

The best ending is that Ronnie already knows about the betrayal and is acting. Ronnie and Vic both end up free and patch things up. Vic finds his family. Tavon and Julian end up taking the fall for all the Strike Team's sins

I always said. Shane was the weak link. He did that t his family by bringing Mara in. Instead of keeping her out of it. Like Vic. Corrine was a weak character most of the time. Just whiny and naive. Lets anyone in and lets them say whatever and manipulate her. Then she repeats to someone else and they also buy it. Its just silly and not realistic.
