I can’t believe I’m admitting this here but my wife a few years ago went slightly nostalgia crazy. She got on eBay and bought the old products from the line that was released in like 2007. She spent something to the tune of 400 euros on body spray, powder, and lotions. She got botulism and spent 2 days in hospital because she…licked the 800 year old lotion because she “needed to remember” the flavor of her youth. For years I held onto this story because who even knows about this. The fact your video got recommended to me is great. For a long time I thought it was actually inedible and my wife was mislead because she was like 12 when it came out so- but here I am. With a bunch of other women who like my wife, has memories of this ridiculous business of Jessica Simpson.

Jessica is actually a theater nerd trapped in a cheer leaders body and raised in the wrong community. She would thrive on Broadway I think

Back in 2004, I was a sales associate for Frederick’s of Hollywood. I remember we were excited to get this line in our store. The pink quilted corset she wore in the campaign photos was made and sold by FOH. We got new posters for the line, a ton of the corsets, and a special display for the products. We told all our customers the line was coming to us and to come back to check it out. The date kept getting pushed back and I don’t remember ever getting any of products in store. I just remember coming to work one day and being told the posters needed to come down and the corsets all went on clearance. I don’t remember all the details, just that she decided she didn’t want to partner with FOH. We were bummed and so were our customers.

My dad got me some of the Dessert stuff for my birthday, because he thought it was just some sweet smelling body lotion that I'd like. My boyfriend was there when I unwrapped them, and was reading the product description and said that they were edible. Dad gave the boyfriend the biggest Death Stare I'd ever seen. 😂 You kinda had to be there

Always hated how tabloids wrote about Jessica Simpson. They constantly critiqued her body and wrote awful things about her weight. She definitely deserved better!

My Sephora manager was around for the Dessert line. She said that it was awful, especially in the beginning when it was new and exciting, because groups of women/girls would come in, soak everything in makeup trying to taste it, and leave the mess. The brands and products that were shelved next to or across from Dessert became sticky, and they had to constantly clean, or it would get unsanitary. Then, as it faded into obscurity, it would just sit there for months on end, untouched. I'm glad I wasn't around for it, but I can only imagine trying to clean that up. Sounds like a nightmare.

Jessica Simpsons line is the highest selling celebrity brand of...all...time and the treats line was so spot on for the early 2000s, so I hope she is giving herself multiple pats on the back daily.

I don’t know why we were so obsessed with edible body care in the early 2000s. I had all the Desserts line and also rabidly collected the Urban Decay powders. While not edible, I loved the Tutti Dolce like at Bath and Body. This was a fun walk down memory lane. Well done! Side note, I didn’t quite grow out of this foodie scent phase. Current daily fragrance is the Philosophy Fresh Cream/Cashmere 😂

I was JUST thinking of these products a few days ago! At the drugstore, they had a whole area set up with the products and you could sample them. I was around 30 yrs old and tried the loose body powder that smelled like cotton candy, lol.

It’s incorrect that JS got sick off her product during the shoot - she got sick off of the sweets props. She kept eating the icing, take after take, off of the cupcakes for the photos. She was consuming, over time, a ton of sweets on an empty stomach. The episode was very clear about this

I worked at TJMaxx from 2005-2007 so I was able to grab all the Desserts AND Desserts Treats that were sold off! I had a big collection, my favorites being a vanilla-flavored perfume and a champagne-flavored shimmery body powder.

I'm 34 and I remember when this line came out! I wanted some of the line so bad as we wore crazy sweet scents like Juice Bar Cotton Candy. One of my very 1st CD's was her Sweet Kisses album and I had "betcha she don't love you" on repeat. For anyone who wasn't around or didn't remember the Teen Pop era, Britney Spears was the superstar who busted the genre open, Christina Aguilera was Britney's main rival but her voice set her apart. Jessica Simpson however, was the "good girl" with the Christian background who was also marketed as having a better singing voice than Britney. Gosh, you just helped me stroll so far back down memory lane, thank you! Time to look through one of my 200 vintage magazines from back then!

I was in my 20s when this came out & I like sugary/vanilla scents so it seemed promising. The packaging was cute, Jessica Simpson was cute, what could go wrong? Then I smelled everything & ick. It was like the products used to smell good but they were left in the sun too long & went bad

Jessica's hair was the standard back then. I took a pic of her at an event for dessert to my hairstylist and we did her loose feathery waves for my prom.

I appreciate the genuine love as a fan you have for Jessica Simpson, you really showcased her in a very flattering and respectful way where viewers could understand and relate to her. Thank you for shedding light on the constant struggles this woman faced from the media and the ugly horrors she endured as a woman. Its unfortunate what women go through in this industry and Jessica Simpson is true representation and a warrior of someone who overcame that struggle and became someone who ended up on top as a very successful business woman today.

I was about 21 and I loved these. I had all the lip plumper flavors, the banana lotion, and the orange cream and lollipop body powder stuff. I loved how they tasted “sweet” but just a little bit and the lip gloss was awesome.

I was in 7th grade when this came out at Sephora. MTV still ruled TV and I remember every girl and some boys had it. Looking back while also studying marketing I don't think Jessica was naive or taken advantage of around this era. Record deals are literally someone handing you MILLIONS to create your identity with such as cars, houses, or surgeries. If you FLOP tho and the label drops you then any money an artist takes upfront has to be returned or paid back. That's why the music industry is so complex.. that's another story. Anyway, DESSERTS was made to be a gimmick. They knew Jessica was hot commodity in the mid-early 2000's she probably said something like "I love candy for dessert" and then her PR team ran with it and shopped around the idea until a beauty brand was able to make it happen and invest in Desserts.There was definitely no intention on building an empire around it because people will lose interest in something like this because it's not practical.The main target audience was for children in my opinion. The ads are fun and appetizing for the kids while Jessica playing with cool whip is appetizing for the men (and some girls.) It was a win for all. Now with this gimmick alone probably secured a few magazine spreads etc. in return. SIDE NOTE: I swear I was at Marshalls a few months back and saw a stock of these. I was so confused because I am 32 now and haven't seen this since 2004? They're definitely not in production anymore are they? Has there been a planned comeback? Not gonna lie I'd be down

I miss the early 2000s. Such a tacky, yet iconic era 💕 I still have and wear the OG Paris perfume and Britney’s Curious! The best! I remember getting something from the Dessert Treats line. I am (not) ashamed to say that I wore these perfumes when I was about 35 years old and I LOVED them and I got compliments on the perfumes when I wore them too. They also lasted all day on me too, they weren't weak performing for me. I owned about four of the perfumes and a few of the body sprays too. I did not, however, lick any of them. haha, but they smelled delicious. And if they brought them back, I'd probably wear them now too!

I did not like how sticky it was, which is why I stopped using it and went back to my favorites. Thank you for covering more of Jessica's possible P.O.V.s and how the public accepted/shamed her. The first time I heard of her was when she opened for Ricky Martin. (My mom LOVED Ricky.) I agree that Jessica arrived late to the game, similar to Mandy Moore. 💚 Side Note: My favorite perfume was Curious by Britney. I went through so many bottles of that fragrance!

Curious is still my favorite perfume. Bought it when it launched and I instantly loved it. Wish they still sold the original style bottle with the squeeze ball end. Made me feel so fancy❤

It was pretty difficult for Jessica to carve her own path in the pop music scene but I thoroughly enjoyed the route she took with her other ventures. Her shoe line was fabulous. Also MTV Newlyweds is so nostalgic and I still rewatch it to this day. Funnily enough I just rewatched the episode where she does the promo photoshoot for this Dessert line. It was embarrassing because when her dad (who was also her manager) let her know about the upcoming shoot, Jessica complained that the photographer was missing a thumb. Something about her not being able to be sexy in front of the camera when she worked with that particular photographer. Her parents and Nick all kind of scolded her about the comment being rude. It would NOT be easy to have a camera crew documenting your every reaction and thoughts that pop into your head that you happen to say out loud. It was pretty rude and when she shows up at the photoshoot she tells Nick how terrible she feels about the comment. My guess is that she got sick from those cupcakes she had to consume on set. Perhaps as a way to "get back" at her for her unflattering comment towards the photographer. I came to this realization because the photographer brought his dog with him on the set and they include a shot of Jessica admiring the dog and commenting on the dog's sweater. The dog's sweater just so happened to have a ☠ skull symbol on it. Which I NEVER noticed before but somehow it stood out to me after rewatching it. But that particular symbol usually appears as a warning for toxic chemicals/poison. And Jessica just so happened to get sick during that shoot. Just an interesting observation I had! That same photographer has also appeared on episodes of America's Next Top Model. So I guess if you're ever on reality TV, be cautious of what you say about others! They might just want to get back at you 😳🤢
