today we are talking about piercings: how long we have been piercing ourselves, what piercings meant to people around the world, and how they became popular today. we will cover the history of body jewelry to jewelry trends 2024 (helix piercing, rook piercing, kali rei's piercings, christina piercing, flat back earrings, rhino piercing, double nose piercing, snake eyes piercing, nostril piercing, eyebrow piercings, nipple piercing, anti eyebrow piercing, fourchette piercing, THE LIST GOES ON!!). this is a VERY short history about piercings - if there is anything interesting that i left out of the video, PLEASE leave it in the comments! i would love to learn more.

This was such a nicely done video, your voice is really fitting for a calm yet entertaining format. As someone who has quite a lot of piercings and tattoos i know about the origins of body modifications but i honestly had no idea the Queen also had such an influence along the years! Happy i've learned something new

After I got married, my wife had both of her ears double pierced in the mid '70's when it became fashionable. I loved the way they looked on her and loved to watch her put them in her ears. I liked it so much that I decided to get my ear pierced to surprise her not knowing if or how she'd except it. She was surprised and ok with it. Then said I should have my other ear pierced too if I wanted to. I did and have been wearing them since. Both of also had our left upper cartilage pierced when it became fashionable to do so. Having her ears pierced was something that my mom also wanted to get done and never got a chance to do so. In a way I did it for her too.

@@solamenteskin1788Also I did not know that due to Elizabeth the 2nd earrings became more popular, as the have been in Europe for many ears before as can be seen in many oil paintings. So I would like a bit more explanation, if I may.

@@chan_9000no problem! i probably could have explained that better. cultural accetance of certain adornments fluctuated in europe. for awhile, in the classical era (think rococo france) makeup, wigs, jewelry, bigger hoopskirts had positive associations with wealth/health/status. in the romantic era that followed, wearing makeup, wigs, jewelry became ostentatious and immoral. women of this era would, for example, pinch their cheeks instead of using blush. public/cultural opinions on these things changed as a backlash to wealth inequality, revolution/rebellion, religion, etc for the average person, but we see lots of royals painted with earrings as they were a way of showing off a monarchy’s wealth and power. ur right, in my research i did see a lot of royals and heralded artists/scholars depicted with earrings, but it seems this right was historically only reserved for them. for some reason, queen elizabeth’s coronation earrings resonated w the public - perhaps women in england/europe/usa who lived thru 2 world wars and were asked to contribute to their nations efforts/ration their food&spending were ready to spend $$ on some new fancy jewelry :) sorry this was long!!
