Hope you find this interesting :) What If on Halo 3's final mission the portal on the Ark sends the Forward unto Dawn carrying Master Chief, Cortana and Arbiter (all together, two or one depending if the ship splits or not) A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away . . . . Star Wars (or to be more specific at the start or little before the Phantom Menace or New Hope) See more of the story below!?! This is a work in progress! but feel free to take, edit and use in your final draft if you wish, just a small mention/credit of what I may have contributed will be fine with me :) SWPM option 1, Arbiter: The front half of the Forward unto Dawn carrying Arbiter teleports into the Star Wars galaxy at speed, passes the CIS blockade, who are left wondering WTF was that, but of course turn their attention to another approaching ship ( Qui Gon Jinn / Obi Wan kenobi journey stays the same for now ... ) Arbiter crashes into the ocean or large lake on the planet of Naboo, after salvaging what he can and escaping the sinking wreck Arbiter sets off in search of civilization ... only at first to find Jar Jar Binks !?! ... After setting up camp for the night and having something to eat ( either human ration packs salvaged from the F.U.D | or some form of creature that Arbiter would be able to catch/eat ) lured by the smell of food Jar Jar " Attempts " to sneak up! ... Only to get caught (detected via Arbiters hunter/warrior senses ... that or his motion tracker) after a lot of begging/bargaining Arbiter takes pity on him and offers Jar Jar a deal, guide him to the " Human " capital of Naboo in exchange for food/protection (Jar Jar of course would accept this offer, what with being banished from going home for being clumsy) along the way perhaps they'll find a crashed but still operational warthog (which is worse, trusting Jar Jar to drive or shoot !) after some driving they come under attack from scouts of the droid invasion followed by the JEDI who come to their aid and ... could also appreciate a ride ... ( JJ will likely call Arbiter " Arby " for short throughout the story ) SWPM option 2, Chief / Cortana: The back half of the Forward unto Dawn carrying Chief / Cortana teleports into from their perspective a unknown region of space! Cortana of course will start running scans of the area and drop a beacon for potential rescue (for about 4 years, 7 months, 10 days she won't be suffering from rampancy yet) ... oh would you look at that its the ship that Qui Gon Jinn/ Obi Wan kenobi are traveling on, after some basic introductions / explanations the JEDI will ask if MC/C would like to accompany them to the planet of Naboo or wait for another ship to give them a tow 1a) if they stay some time later the JEDI will send a message saying the CIS have just attempted to kill them, rather than being sitting ducks, Cortana uses what control they have over the F.U.D to steer it to Naboo for a controlled crash landing then using a escape pod. 1b) if they leave with the JEDI, the F.U.D will be left behind for now, will it stay adrift in space, get caught in Naboo's gravitational pull and crash there!) When arriving at the CIS blockade MC/C will have another two choices 2a) Stay in ship until what should be " short negotiations " are over! ... outcome: ship gets blown up with MC/C just about escaping the blast or rises from the wreckage like a Demon to the bewilderment of the battle droids 2b) Join the JEDI in the meeting to introduce themselves to this new galaxy or pretend to be acting security! ... outcome: oh boy, if the CIS were spooked about JEDI showing up in the original story, what are going to think Chief is ... Mandalorian perhaps ( they won't know anything about Cortana yet ) When Lord Sidious gives the order " kill them immediately " so the CIS blows up the horse they rode in on and " try " to gas the JEDI / Chief ... pfffft ha ha ha ha HAHAHAHAHAHAHA cue the song ( Unyielding Soul ) | whichever scenario plays they link up and fight their way to the bridge (next question is can Cortana interface/hack the doors for the bridge e.g. is there a control panel they can hack close by? ... also don't forget the blast doors) still even after all that the droidika's with their shields may still be problematic leading to the group needing to sneakoff the ship! SWPM option's 1/2 combined: When combining these perspectives most details stay the same, with the exception of Chief / Cortana telling the JEDI that Arbiter is about to crash-land on the planet of Naboo (or already has) they'll also be able to keep in contact with Arbiter via COM's until the CIS blocks communications!

I always imagined that Szarek didn't declare war on the Old Ones and instead he was the last of a long line of successors to the one that did. He ended up inheriting the mess his predecessors started and was desperate for an out, and so went with the C'tan as it was perceived as his only good option. The war likely lasted longer than the average Necrontyr lifespan, so the Silent King who started the war saw his race unified, said "I got mine," and died before having to see the terrible end.

It is virtually Impossible Zharekh was the Silent King who declared the war in Heaven. We know from the Infinite and the Divine the war lasted five million years in total and even assuming the first phase where the necrons were defeated was a very small portion of that, it it could still be thousands of years. Meanwhile Necrontyr very rarely lived to be 60 IF they were the highest royalty. That was also one of the more refreshing things about the Lion's return, I think. As soon as he figures out what's been going on, he literally just goes "oof, I WAS the a-hole" and actually starts trying to make amends. It was a nice change of pace. Grimdark loses dramatic tension if you don't have at least a few people trying to go against the grain and bring a little contrast.

Local Necron nerd checking in. As far as what he's been doing, he is the driving force behind the Pariah Nexus, aka the "Warp be gone" field in the Nephilim sector of the galaxy that prevents Chaos from manifesting entirely and screws with the Nids at the small cost of slowly sucking away the souls of those inside not strong enough to resist it's pull, but that really isn't a problem for the Necrons. Originally it was just the one but as of the new Codex there appear to be more popping up around the galaxy, implying that he plans on implementing it on a larger (perhaps galactic) scale. Also, since the new codex has come out, the rivalry between Imotekh and Szarekh has begun to ramp up into what many believe to be the beginnings of a civil war, though it has yet to heat up into outright fighting. This is assumed to be the next direction the Necrons will take plotwise. So, for what is arguably the most historically important figure in the setting, he has a grand total of 1 and half plotlines going on. Not much but it's better than the purgatory the Ynnari and Votann have been left in I guess. EDIT: As of the new Crusade book, the civil war between Szarekh and Imotekh is officially underway. Feeling the heat of having to fight 3 enemies at once (Imotekh, Imperium with a whole new crusade force led by Cawl himself and now Vashtorr is showing up), Szarekh is beginning to unveil some of the weapons from the War in Heaven he had stowed away. This causes Imotekh to proclaim Szarekh "dishonorable" as he himself is strictly abiding by the codes of warfare as proclaimed by Necron law, causing some, like Orikan, to defect to Imotekh's side. And now, the Pariah Nexus is a 4-way shitshow of Imperium vs Chaos vs Necrons vs other Necrons.
@martinconway8174

Two things I noticed: Necrons absolutely do go mad over time, it’s only the most “obsessive” ones that can maintain their sanity over the thousands of years. That’s why Trazyn is pretty sane compared to most. The Silent King ignores this because his body is absolutely perfectly made, no mechanical or psychological degradation whatsoever. Second, as per the new codex, The Silent King has ordered the creation of the Pariah Nexus, seemingly to contain the Great Rift, and to separate the souls from mortal bodies.

All the xenos races are underutilized. They are too passive in their writing. GW put themselves into the dumbest corner possible with only one storyline. The Imperium vs everyone else. Instead of having several storylines running congruently with one another. Hell the timelines don't even have to align with one another because events happen over hundreds of years. A note on what you were saying at 8:50 about the soul: in The Infinite and the Divine, Orikan and Trazyn both make reference to the idea that the necron can no longer engage in art. Whether it be the ceramics that Orikan smashes or the stage play of another species, they could not engage with it in an artistic way because they ultimately lacked any sustained feeling. They could replicate things at the technical level, sure, or criticize them and extrapolate their meaning, but it wouldn't feel like art to them. Conversely, we know that the Eldar are possessed of incredibly large souls to the extent that art and culture are experienced to a higher level than any human. In humans you have a bit more of a spectrum from psykers to blanks. These 3 perspectives sort of give an interesting idea of the soul in relation to its "size" in 40k. It seems to me that the Necrons being soulless isn't just like not having an organ, it's their ability to have any emotional grounding outside of their ingrained power structures or personal obsessions. They're always just smart enough to know what they've lost, but they are never even able to remember the feel of it.

Hmmmm. It makes me think of how undead are driven less by actual wants and more by "compulsions". The skeleton isn't farming or mining because he enjoys it, because there's any innate sense of satisfaction in doing so, he does it become this is what he does. The vampire king still "loves" people but it's more an inescapable need to be around them and own them or else they experience distress.

It just hit me that this is actually a really solid description of what chronic high-functioning depression feels like. You know what you are conceptually "supposed" to feel at any given moment, and you vaguely remember what these emotions used to feel like (which is naturally how you are very self-aware of their current absence), but the feelings and emotions just don't seem to happen much anymore. It's an incredibly aggravating, gnawing itch in your mind. Like continuously trying to crank a car engine that just will not turn over. The gas just will not flow. The Necrons are experiencing something like this on a society-sized scale, and they want to recover from it. It really does make the Necron storyline more interesting.

Necrons seem to have the opposite problem in 40k than the Eldar. The Eldar are relatively popular but are pretty much only used rarely in the lore and only to be the punching bag for whoever is the protagonist. The Necrons aren't played that often, oddly, but in ANY lore they are just as terrifying and OP against anyone they come across as they should be considering they went toe-to-toe with the Eldar, the Krorks, and the Old Ones in the War of Heaven and nearly won! The silent king actually has been doing something noteworthy. He has teamed up with the other necrons and is the main commander of the Pariah Nexus defence force, taking control of thousands of armies at once amlnd turning the tide against any current imperium forces holding out there. This became such a problem that all the imperium forces already fighting there could do is use the best of their psykers to send a psychic message to Terra to ask for reinforcements in a suicide attempt due to how the nexus works. He even obliterated an entire planet with his ship due to an imperial commander not accepting an honourable duel from a necron overlord. Now why do not so many people know about this? Because GW decided it should be a passage in White Dwarf #480 instead of anywhere else. This is gonna continue in the upcoming pariah nexus crusade book apparently

Actually if I recall in more recent lore The Silent King has actually done some stuff namely setting up the Pariah Nexus. Basically the Silent King wants to reactivate Necron Pylons across the Milky Way in order to seal the Great Rift and create a disruption field that severs the Hive Minds link with the Tyranids, thus ending any cohesion or organized threat from the faction. However using the Pylons will slowly cause all soul bearing species to slowly wither and essentially become depressed soulless Blanks if not straight up die. So far the area of space that has the most activated Pylons and has become the Silent Kings domain is called the Pariah Nexus. Thanks to the threat posed by the Pylons and knowledge of the Silent Kings location, this has led the Imperium to deploy their forces, even sending in the Ultramarines. This has not gone well as the Necrons have beaten back numerous assaults and the Pylons cause many guardsmen and regular human citizens to slowly go mad and even attack their fellow Imperials. The Space Marines also learned a hard lesson to not mess with an honorable duel after one Marine challenged a Necron commander to one on one which the commander accepted with the Silent Kings approval no less. However during the duel the other marines present saw an opening and launched an attack on the other Necrons watching the duel. The Silent King became furious as he views duels as sacred and honorable so to have the Marines seemingly use a duel to sneak in a cheap shot was an unforgivable crime as far as he was concerned. He then proceeded to *annihilate* the Marines, leaving no survivors. So yeah Silent King seems to be active once more but for how long remains to be seen I suppose.

What I really love about the Silent King honestly is in many ways he's very similar to the Emperor of Mankind. Both were men who at a pivotal junction in their races history forcibly took control of their people through the use of god-like beings (the Silent King using the C'tan and the Emperor using the Thunder Warriors then later on Primarchs and Astartes), then pretty much weaponized their entire species to wage a galactic war against anything and everything only to later then have said god-like beings betray them and ruin everything. To me I feel like the fact both of their tales are so similar really helps highlight what both of them are like as characters. From all his actions during and after the War in Heaven you could tell the Silent King, for all his faults, seemed to genuinely care for his people and was remorseful for what he had ultimately done to them. Of course he blames the C'tan for a good chunk for it but he at least seems to recognize that it was his actions that allowed the C'tan to do that to his people too. If that wasn't the case I don't think he would've forced himself into exile *and* come back upon discovering the Tyranids. From everything that I've seen of the Emperor however, even though he can't really talk about it right now I get the feeling that even now he wouldn't hold himself accountable for the Heresy. Instead he'd choose to only blame the Chaos Gods and his own sons' failings for the second fall of humanity, not realizing it was his own pragmatic and callous actions during a lot of it that allowed Chaos to infiltrate his sons so easily. Of course Chaos has its own way of worming into everything but with doing shit like not helping Angron and Mortarion at all and absolutely humiliating Lorgar and Perturabo the Emperor didn't exactly make it hard for Chaos to do so.

@@theodorehodbor5080but the main difference between Szerakh and the Emperor is that Szerakh was no godlike psychic chosen one, he was an unwitting pawn but that didn't stop him from making things right. He didn't have to stand up to the most horrifyingly powerful gods in the galaxy, he could've ruled the Necrons for all eternity if kept the command protocols, he could've easily turned his back on everything but he didn't. The Emperor was motivated by a sense of superiority while the Silent King is legitimately wholly dedicated to his people and that is why he's the better sovereign.

@@Dogue83Agree. The Emperor is what typical Ego Maniac leader dreaming to become god really is. He is boastfull and Pridefull, have his head in the clouds and when the reallity checks in, The Chaos came and he gone apeshit. Claiming he is a sleep in throne doing nothing and just fighting Chaos in the warp is too much of cliche and Power Fantasy even after his sleep he still want people to never question and worship him, and he is very detach even i as a viewer see him as just a leader with just Thick plot armor. Silent King is what i call the most 'human' leader i've ever seen, he is just a leader that has been given a Fractured empire and endless war by his predecessor, and facing all this gigantic messed he become desperate and stressed to try to find everything to get his people out of the mess, in the end he make a deal with a Ctan and dommed his people. Even after becoming Necron, he is not a pushover weak leader, he learns from his mistake and try to repair it and even he manage to kill the Old One and Ctan is very huge feat. But he is not gonna rule his people through total obidience, seeing his people becoming mindless robot must have been very heartwrenching to him, and so he left and free his people from the slavery of protocols and peace out to contemplate. Emperor and Silent King is a leader but they are the opposite of the same coin. Emperor is what Egoistic Narchisist ruler is, always self centered and never learn from his mistake. Silent King learned from his mistake, and he is not pride about what he do to the galaxy, and try to makes ammends to the Galaxy and the people he trully loves.

Third edition Necron codex had the Necrontyr discover a C’tan feeding on their home star as they studied it to figure out why it was so unstable. Studying that C’tan lead them to finding more of them and figuring out how to communicate them. The Necrontyr then learned super physics from the C’tan and were able to provide them with Necrodermis shells so they could more easily interact. If GW didn’t retcon that bit of lore then it still makes sense as an origin.

My personal headcannon (Which will only be displaced when the main swarm of the Tyranids arrive, so I'm good) is that when the Silent King saw the Tyranids, he saw that the scouts would eat all organic matter. The main force would eat the planets and stars. This is partially based on that one necron tomb world the bugs ate, and that one old lore bit that mentioned the galaxy that was behind the nids has gone dark now (although that was also tied into that old lore idea of the nids running from something). But yeah, the mime king scared of bugs would make more sense if the bugs ate everything, not just everyone.

There is a fan theory that I like which argues that the reason why Old Ones did not give Necrons immortality or at the very least cure for super cancer, is because Necrons were at the time still conquering the galaxy and were giant assholes even with super cancer, so Old Ones did not want to make galaxy conquest and genocide easier for Necrons who consider themselves rules of galaxy while dying before they hit 50, like Slaan/Lizardmen of Warhammer fantasy kill almost all human colonies on Lustria because if humans destory jungle, slaan can’t stop the EndTimes from happening.

It's worth keeping in mind that the races outside of the Galaxy they encountered are unlikely to have been engineered or touched in some way by the old ones like the primary factions in 40k. I don't believe it's stated the extent of the expansion, only that it has occurred and that there are gifts awaiting the Necron people once/if the Tyranids can be haltered.

The Deceiver’s original name was “The Messenger” because he was the first of the C’tan to figure out how to communicate with the necrontyr after being put into the living metal bodies. Name got changed after biotransference for obvious reasons

I know this is potentially heresy for saying this, but I would like to see Trazyn negotiate an alliance between the the Necrons and Roboute's Imperium. Nothing permanent, just an agreement to not fight each other until the Tyranids and Chaos are cleansed from the galaxy. Also, is it possible that The Silent King returned to the galaxy during the Great Crusade, met Sanguinius, but then left the galaxy for another 10k years? I ask because its entirely possible that TSK could have been returning back to the galaxy at regular intervals to stay up to date on the state of the Galaxy.

It always comes back to a group of nerds in a room just making up names and words and titles so that years later, someone says, "Well, since he's named the Ultimate Destroyer of Reality,....ugh. What the fuck were we thinking?"

Nah, nah, nah. The FIRST King, who ruined the galaxy. It's like GW needed to give someone a drinking buddy when writing new necron lore😅

Ya know what Necron thing does not get enough credit in 40k? The C'tan. They are basically reduced to Pokémon rather than barely chained pissed of Star Gods that are hard set to counter Necrons. Think about it, the warp is the best weapon against them and the Necrons don't have that. Likewise what they do have, vault and tech to contain them, half of which might have been designed by them such as Dolmen Gates and if not that then at least know to them. In The Infinite and the Divine and Sons of the Hydra we see just how dangerous a single errant shard can be. With how fractured the Necrons are any more jail breaks are a real risk. Also technically the Outsider still exist somewhere in the galaxy as a whole C'tan, in that same vein the Void Dragon on Mars is also a singular threat.

I've been, for the last...month or so, trying to psyche myself up to write a necron story. Something ridiculous. I'm going with the working title: "Nic and Ron, Guards of the Galaxy." Guardians was taken. If I get but a single voice of support...fork it, I'll write the first story. Because Necrons are awesome.
