Arguably the greatest doo-wop song of that era. Awesomely moving and majestic. A #12 hit and really their only big one, though they charted in the Top 40 a couple more times. As for the Platters, they were an amazing and very successful vocal group, though not so much in the doo-wop vein. You may be thinking of their "Only You."
@jjflash1645
@jjflash1645 11 ай бұрын
A really GREAT SONG, but I wouldn’t classify it as Doo Wop. What about This I Swear. I think that was a pretty big hit for them plus a few others.
@walterpanovs
@walterpanovs 11 ай бұрын
@@jjflash1645 Definitely a doo-wop song and included in every great doo-wop collection. Those background vocals make it so (as does the falsetto), I mentioned they had a couple of other charting songs but not as big as the one above, "This I Swear" peaked at #26 and "Pennies from Heaven" made it to #24. That's it.
@PutOnASweater
@PutOnASweater 10 ай бұрын
"Their only big one"???? Wrong! Just because "Since I Don't Have You" was their biggest seller does not mean their other hits, especially, "This I Swear Is True" at # 26 was not a BIG hit. The numbers do not reflect actual record sales, only relative positions for that week. For instance, a #26 record in a particular month could outsell a #10 record in another month. There are records that never made the top 50 the have sold over a million copies and there are #1 records that never came close.
@walterpanovs
@walterpanovs 10 ай бұрын
@@PutOnASweater "Hits" are judged by their performance on the charts. "This I Swear," their 2nd single, was a notable record for them but it was nowhere near the hit (by any measure, sales or radio play) that "Since I Don't Have You" was and remains. This is just a fact and common knowledge.

Hi Angela! Nice that you chose a 50s song, I love 50s-60s music, was born in the 50s myself. This particular song by The Skyliners, was on the soundtrack to the movie "American Graffiti" (1973). Saw the movie in theaters at the time, then bought the music album with the soundtrack from the movie. The film takes place in the 50s, with many now famous film actors, and the music from the film is so lovely! I collect music, so I have a lot from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and also some from today. But, the music from the past is still the very best in my opinion. Platters is also in the film's soundtrack with 3 songs, "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes", "The Great Pretender" and "Only You (And You Alone)". Feel free to make a reaction to one of those songs sometime. Good job, have a nice time.❤

I have loved it since and any woman I have dated heard this song, we would dance to it and fall in love!!! I'd like if you would react to Put Your Head On My Shoulders 1963 version by Paul Anka, he wrote the song himself and recorded it twice first I believe to be 1959 then again December 12th 1962, it was released in 1963.
