I do as well, but I prefer the way he sings ‘the final die” on the album version.

I first heard this on a Sydney radio station back in 1995 as part of The Smiths fan special, which was constructed around a top 10 as voted by fans of The Smiths. I lost my cassette recording of this years ago. Stoked to have it back again, thank you so much for uploading this! Legend!

The way Johnny and Andy change up going into the "chorus", but Mike stays on the verse beat-- for a couple measures, and it somehow still lines up. If you're not a musician, its the little things like that which have you going "I cant put my finger on it, but theres something special in what they're doing"

One of their most underrated tracks and dare I say the best song on "Meat Is Murder" (not counting "How Soon Is Now?" which was just tacked onto the US version).

I'd like to drop my trousers to the world I am a man of means, of slender means Each household appliance Is like a new science in my town And if the day came when I felt a natural emotion I'd get such a shock I'd probably jump in the ocean And when a train goes by, it's such a sad sound No, no, no, no, no It's such a sad thing I'd like to drop my trousers to the Queen Every sensible child will know what this means The poor and the needy Are selfish and greedy on her terms And if the day came when I felt a natural emotion I'd get such a shock I'd probably jump in the ocean And when a train goes by, it's such a sad sound No, no, no, no, no It's such a sad thing And when I'm lying in my bed I think about life and I think about death And neither one particularly appeals to me And if the day came when I felt a natural emotion I'd get such a shock I'd probably lie In the middle of the street and die I'd lie down and die, oh-oh
