my favorite version of this song especially the last minute

This has to be pitched up, right? The speed feels alright, but I've never heard them tune sharper than F# standard and this sounds at least a half step higher. Also the piano at 0:55 was an interesting touch.

absolute buffoons whistling and whining over what sounds like a great performance. to think we only have three recordings of asleep and this one is ruined by a crowd of troglodytes

This photo is so interesting because before the band Morrissey was a writer..

This was only played live by the smiths once, because the venue refused to move a piano off stage so they just took that as an opportunity to play this. I can't believe there is even a recording. Marr is a genius on guitar I can't believe he wrote this piano piece as well and Moz is Moz obviously. The audience should of been in tears but I'm fortunate this exists at all.

Ask is about shyness but the best lyrics concern the bomb that brings the listeners together.

I am partial to Tate and Street and the BBC sessions. But this one is murkier and Porters is superior in sparkle and clarity. But I do like the outro closing with the ‘Asleep’ piano gently playing.

I'd like to drop my trousers to the world I am a man of means, of slender means Each household appliance Is like a new science in my town And if the day came when I felt a natural emotion I'd get such a shock I'd probably jump in the ocean And when a train goes by, it's such a sad sound No, no, no, no, no It's such a sad thing I'd like to drop my trousers to the Queen Every sensible child will know what this means The poor and the needy Are selfish and greedy on her terms And if the day came when I felt a natural emotion I'd get such a shock I'd probably jump in the ocean And when a train goes by, it's such a sad sound No, no, no, no, no It's such a sad thing And when I'm lying in my bed I think about life and I think about death And neither one particularly appeals to me And if the day came when I felt a natural emotion I'd get such a shock I'd probably lie In the middle of the street and die I'd lie down and die, oh-oh

At least Johnny, Mike and Andy were good lads. My friend was in the same class as Johnnys brother and they were the only two vegetarians in their year at school! As much as i despise racism etc and i think Morrissey is a prick, im able to separate off his shitty post-Smiths political stances and focus on their musical output. As i tell people when discussing the band, im into The Smiths, im not into Morrissey.

@@davenic9781 SOOO tru ! i do the same but it's a bit hard considering he pens all the words we love so much. im immensely glad i can direct that love for the other three though. andy's my favorite !!!! it's still a shame. i remember seeing other fans on forums bashing on mike just cos of the trial but i think it's cos they were moz leaning!! so weird to see in 2024. the smiths rule 4ever tho
