Are you struggling with a terrible hook? Do your friends say that you double crossed your shot? In this video on The Snap Hook Myth | Don't Be Fooled we'll take the flight scope and see how hooks are created. We'll cover what is happening during the swing and go over tips on how to correct this. Learn how the hook is formed by how you're swinging and where your face is angled. Time to stop hooking and straighten out your shots. Get longer, smoother swings and increase your distance.
I look forward to working with you much more in the future with Top Speed Golf. Good luck with your golf.

This is blowing my mind right now. I've been racking my brain for over 2 weeks trying to figure out why I'm hooking it so bad. I kept trying to come more in to our and now I realize why that made it even worse. It's 940 at night and I want to immediately hit a range.

Such a great video. Everyone I went to said it was "over the top" or I have a "closed face" now I know that I'm just coming too much from the inside. Thank you. Worth subscribing to!

Clay you are the man for this. I play a nice fade with my irons, but have somehow been stuck on the idea that I need to swing in->out with my driver. I've had a horrible snap hook all season and the driver has perplexed me. Why didn't I just think to try a cut. So much suffering for no reason.

I do sometimes hit a snap hook, yet I know my swing is inside out. I see now that as you say, I am swinging too inside out, and and hitting with a closed face. That makes sense.

Same man, every time I snap hook I just kept trying to fix the issue the wrong way...its been a big problem...kept drooping my hands even lower and it just kept hooking worse and worse...well then I decided to weaken my grip and then the blocks and block slices started...went out today and tried to hit a fade, I felt like I was coming massively over the top but to my surprised the ball drew...golf makes no freaking sense

Hi Brandon, yes, you can come down too steep and then drop it under plane late resulting in the snap hook.

I've heard that what makes you get out of posture and stand up like that. Is because the ball is too close and your brain naturally makes you stand up to try to hit it.

Clay, when coming too far from the inside, is it also possible to come down with a case of the...ahem...shanks? Lately I'm either snap hooking it left or shanking it to the right.

Hi great lesson so that swing path could also cause a push right ?
@TopSpeedGolf

Yes, that is correct. It will be a block/push right, hook, or if the face is just right a 10 yard draw. Play well out there!

A big snap hook and a double cross are two different things. A snap hook is exactly as you described. ( nice down the line view by the way, oops you didnt show that :/) . A double cross I think to most people, is when they try to aim down the left side and hit a fade but then swing left and close the face and end up hooking it. In reality its not really a double cross , more like a single cross as the fact that your face being closed to the path is the main problem. A double cross if you are trying to hit a hook would be to leave the face open and push or slice it right. So a snap hook , which is big in to out with a closed face to path isnt a double cross its just a snap hook.
@TheElmMan
@TheElmMan 5 жыл бұрын
Agree. The bottom line is that the face is closed relative to the path. The double cross occurs with the intention of fading the ball (meaning out to in path with an open face relative to path) but instead, the face closes relative to the path, often from stalling the lower body and flipping the club.

Can you snap hook it coming over the top and being to open w your chest and flip it? I don't think a snap is only caused by coming in too far on the inside and flipping it. What do you think?
@stackleft2925
@stackleft2925 6 жыл бұрын
99.9 percent of the time is when your club is under plane or "stuck" behind you. Trust me, I'm an expert in hitting snap hooks.

Thanks again! I assume you mean the face is open to an already right (positive) swing path. I tend to hit a couple of hooks and push-slices during a bad round. Would make sense that my path is fairly consistent, but what the club face is doing at impact is not.
@cobra7282
@cobra7282 7 жыл бұрын
Going by the physics explained in this video a push/slice would be a path to the left (OTT) with an open face. Though I suppose it could work with a path to the right as well, but the face would have to be way open.
@TexasGolfer
@TexasGolfer 7 жыл бұрын
I think Taylor is right. I judge swing path by directional launch relative to target line (push/pull). I then judge club face based on how the ball flies (left/right, right/left or straight). I am no expert; just how I gauge things.

Why wouldn't you just weaken your grip or open your clubface some, and keep the inside path? 10 degrees right is probably too much but still. Seems like you wouldn't lose as much distance hitting from the inside as you would trying to hit that fade, which could introduce the hosel or heel of the club. Most amateurs fight a slice to begin and work hard to grove a more inside swing so I'm a little confused with you would try and work backwards, even if it's just a "feel".

Under the same launch conditions draws do not travel further than fades
@wjjohns04able
@wjjohns04able 6 жыл бұрын
Misc Ellaneous Im not sure how that's possible. Playing a cut over the top always reduces the distance, hence decades of devices teaching people how to hit from the inside. 10 degrees out may be too much but I'm not sure what launch conditions would exist where those two shots carry the same distance. You also never see long drivers hit fades when going for maximum distance.
@andyb3320
@andyb3320 6 жыл бұрын
If one person swings over the top then the launch conditions wouldn't be identical. Draws do not go further than fades under the same launch conditions.

Misc Ellaneous Clear as mud. But to be honest that explanation is typical of golf instruction.
