Thank you so much Brian - I’ve been struggling with what I call the push me / pull you since taking up the game again after a 20 year hiatus - ie consistently duck hooking or slicing the driver. Turns out I’ve had far too strong a grip - simply followed your advice, stepped out onto the course and played the best round since my return a year ago. No more hole killers! (Irons as well as woods). Can’t thank you enough. Now I check every shot!

Thanks for the update Phillip. You have made my day. I am so happy one of my videos has been able to help you. A lot of golfers are quick to work on a swing change of some sort when in most cases a change to their grip, ball position, posture or alignment is really what is required. The biggest change people need to make is their score not their golf swing. Thanks for the update and keep enjoying your golf. Brian

Great video! I searched a ton of videos and yours is the best. I think we tend to over analyze when the answer might be in the basics. I went in the backyard and set up for the driver, i then put the driver shaft across my shoulders and the shoulders were open. I squared up my shoulders with the shaft and took a swing. I could tell straight away this was the solution. The swing was going from 7 to 1 on the clock face as opposed to 6-5:30 to 12-11:30. I should add it felt smoother with more speed. We played the next day and i smashed a drive down the right side of the fairway on the first hole. Game on! I was both relieved and mad at myself for struggling with this for a month. I’ll be checking your tips first when i need help with another part of my game. Thanks so much and well done!

Man I really appreciate this video. My sequence was off, and I couldn’t figure it out. My shoulders were flying open first, because I was trying not to have my club “stuck” behind me, but I know now that it was ultimately causing my hook…I was hitting high beautiful draws today, and was back to my old self. Thanks a ton.

Brian this is amazing advice. When I'm off my miss is this EXACT problem. And I probably have all those symptoms to boot. My grip I need to fight a strong grip, my shoulders get open and probably sequence issues. It's just hard to be disciplined. I'm going to go out Monday and try to tweak all those issues. I really appreciate the video. My backswing is another issue I can't seem to do without being too mechanical or thinking what every position is. It kills me lol
@fitzygolfpro
@fitzygolfpro 9 ай бұрын
Hi Tim. I am glad the video gave you a better understanding of what could be going on. When you practice on Monday try one item at a time a see if that helps. If not go to the next item. I would definable start with your grip. With regards to your back swing hold a basketball or a cushion in your hands in your golf posture. Do a half swing. What is initiating the movement? Are there any technical thoughts going on? Try and do the same with a golf club in your hands. It's really not that complicated. Brian

Great video! The issue I had initially was coming over the top, then I corrected it to hitting drives properly, then suddenly about a month ago I started hooking it. I think my problem is that I'm staying way behind it and the body is not moving in unison like you pointed out. If I could focus on proper sequencing, I will be great. I'll try out your exercise and see how I do! Thank you again!

This has been an ongoing problem for me for several years and I am just starting to come out of it. My lead hand grip is a little strong. If I weaken it by putting it straight down the shaft, I can't square the face and I slice the ball. I won't change this unless I want to intentionally hit a cut. What has helped me has been focusing on clearing my hips and getting my trail elbow in front of my body and keeping my trail arm lower than my lead arm through impact. I literally warm up as if I am swinging a baseball bat at shoulder height, focusing on keeping that trail arm lower than the lead arm, and rotating my hips through impact. My issue is the deeper into a round I get, the more likely I am to revert back to my old habits and hit a round-ruining hook. How can I keep the "good" going throughout my rounds? I will also mention that the hooking problem gets worse the longer the club gets. Thanks for an excellent video.
@fitzygolfpro
@fitzygolfpro 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that Jim. The reason it gets worse as your round progresses is you get loose and your sequence is wrong. When you are cold its easier to keep things together. As you warm up your upper body starts moving first then hips then shoulders as I explained in the video. A great drill would be the following. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ZrSentaC0bSwZKc.html Don't let the name of the drill fool you. It is designed to stop the upper body from moving first in the downswing. Let me know how it goes. Brian

I recently began concentrating on keeping my right elbow tucked in close to my side on take away and down swing and had begun to hit more consistent shots ....however I now have developed a severe snap hook....my grip is neutral, but I am thinking my downswing club path is coming too much from inside to out and my face is too closed......not sure what drill I need to do....thanks
@fitzygolfpro
@fitzygolfpro 2 жыл бұрын
Without seeing what you are doing but in principle your club face is closed to your path at impact. Fixing your path will not stop your hook. You have to work on getting your club face squarer to your path at impact. I know you said your grip was neutral but I still think it is here where your problem lies. Make sure you can only see 2 knuckles on your left hand at address. Place the club more in the middle joints of your right hand. I fee this should stop your hook. Let me know how it goes. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/adh3l7ej3azYeJc.html

Before changing anything. If possible go to a simulator or/and a pro, and check swing path and cub face. You might be doing most things right. I suffered from a terrible hook. Turned out my swing path was ”perfect” BUT but my club face would come in minus 10-12 sometimes. I was close to a really good swing but I could barely play the game. I was so frustrated. Tried everything, except just weaken my right hand. In my head I had a neutral grip but i didnt. My left hand was just perfect but not the right. The focus is often on the left hand and you forget the impact the right hand has on the swing. I think more people get the left hand right and leave it like that, like I did. Luckily for me I asked the pro one time at the range and he noticed this right away. It feels so wrong when you do a grip change. Like you wont be able to hit the ball but pretty soon your new grip will feel normal.

@@fitzygolfpro yes! Thank you for a great video. I just wanted to emphasize the importance of really understand what to fix and only fix that. From my own experience. You say in the video ”there is no point in changing a golf swing if the grip is bad”. It is so true! I didnt really get that or rather I THOUGHT my grip was ok. To me my grip looked good. I thought I had that piece sortet out. Then i went on with other tips that ruined it even more. So you might think you are all fine with the grip and go on to the next steps and that can be devastating for your swing. In order to know that you need some input from someone else or with the help of a simulator. In the latter you need some understanding of the numbers you see. In my mind I had a bad swing and a good grip. Number on the screen sayed the opposite. Even when i realized I was negative 10-12 i couldnt get it right until I asked the pro. It was free of charge btw 🙂.

When you master step in drill, you’ll really notice other duffers swinging way to hard for distance, properly sequencing provides all the power you need without the quick jerking swings you see going for 350 yards drives going east & west, in my opinion…
