In this Live Studio Session, we turned the FUNK DIAL all the way up to 11! I sometimes describe my style as playing like I'm trying to break my saxophone 🤣🤣 I think this is a good example! This solo comes from one of my original tunes called Busy Back Soon.
Sax - Scott Paddock
Bass - Noah Pierre
Drums - Dave Cavalier
Guitar - Dan Leonard
Keyboards - Brian Simms
Recorded at Stages Music Arts in Baltimore Maryland.
The Scott Paddock Sax School is OPEN FOR ENROLLMENT!

Wow! That's simply extraordinary! On Feb. 23, I shattered the top of m,y left tibia where it meets the fibula and femur to make the knee joint in a freak judo accident. I just got out of the hospietal a few days ago with a brand new titanium plate and seven screws. I've been using a walker to move about. I have to work out the logistics of setting up and playing my saxophone. It's difficult to carry anything with the walker. I'm fortunate that it's a soprano and not a bari.

Impressive. But a little a little too sporty for me. I certainly couldn't go 12 rounds like that. The masterpiece that brought me (in 1974, I was 16 years old) to the alto sax ( King20) was "Dancing In The Dark" from the JCA album that everyone here knows as "Somethin' Else" (LP Blue Note 1595). A chorus miracle....Yes, we can talk about emotion....

hey Scott, quick question your sound is to die for and I’m curious on your opinion as to how your Barkley Pop piece compares to a Jumbo Java assuming the same tip opening? to me it looks like the Barkley was modeled exactly after the jumbo, (at least the baffle definitely appears to be). but I’ve never for whatever reason Barkley doesn’t have the best website showing the insides of their mouthpieces so it’s hard to tell exactly how small or large the chamber is. I know the Jumbo Java is very unique due to its extremely high baffle and really small round chamber. Is your Barkley considered a small chamber as well? I know that you’re not a gear guy so I don’t expect you to know this next question, but would you consider it to have a short or medium length facing curve? I’m pretty sure it’s not gonna be long. Love your music love your videos love your lessons, and most importantly, I love the fact that you still take the time to communicate with your followers Thank you so much, and keep on shedding

Thank God the adverb kept the first sentence of the title from descending into hyperbole. For a moment I was a bit worried there.

Sometimes on a KZfaq title you have to be a little over the top ⇧ but my sax repairman would agree with this title

Would be interesting if you take it away from simple pentatonic and experiment with substitute chord changes. The overtones and altissimo might be impressive to a newer sax player but these solos are quite basic at the core and could easily level up by adding some alternate harmony (maybe tritone subs) rhythmic offsetting. Not kicking you here, just seeing things that could help boost the tonal interest for advanced players and take it away from being a safer sound pentatonic fl-exercise.

Hey! Thanks for the message. It's a little more than straight pentatonics, but I get where you are coming from. I am definitely not playing outside, or using advanced concepts. I'm just playing a groove with my own personal style and creating energy with my dynamics, articulations, and ideas. I personally am not a fan of when a straight funk solo goes into the jazz theory concept world. Obviously, when I hear Kenny Garrett or Brecker do it, I think it sounds great, but that's not at all the sound I'm going for.

@@ScottPaddock If staying inside is what you are happy with then I understand what you are aiming for. Outside and adventurous is my calling but we all like different things, no right or wrong here just different concepts, style and taste. All good.
