From a book The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller: www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
The Song of Achilles retells the events of Homer’s Iliad told from the perspective of Patroclus. The book reimagines the relationship between ancient Greek Trojan war heroes Achilles and Patroclus. The novel follows Patroclus' relationship with Achilles, from their initial meeting to their exploits during the Trojan War, with a particular focus on their romantic relationship.

My favorite part of the whole book is the fact that literally EVERYONE KNEW about them and it wasn't a big deal. Odysseus was just like, "oh yea there's only one bed in there cause I heard you two are sleeping together."

I agree with most people when they say Achilles didn’t deserve Patroclus. But even so, I can’t imagine anyone with Patroclus than Achilles. Achilles would have been worse if he never fell in love Patroclus and I don’t think Patroclus would ever be the same if he was never exiled to Achilles. They felt quite literally made for each other together.

The main reason why I cried during this book was because Achilles said he was going to be the first happy hero because of Patroclus. Achilles even made him swear it and in the end.. Achilles didn’t even get to be the happy hero that he wanted to be. Idk when that realization hit me it just made me cry even more lol

Guys, it's not a sad book. It got a happy ending, why are people crying? Even if it didn't have a happy ending, it still wouldn't be completely sad. They lived their lives together and they experienced such LOVE. How many people could claim it about their lives? I sure can't .

I mean when Patroclus had died Achilles was torn: in a way he was almost killing himself slowly through his grieving. That hurt me a lot. And the way through Patroclus’ perspective, as he was trying to stop Achilles from hurting but he was dead and could not speak, that hurt a lot too. And it would have been nice to see them grow old together rather than die young and leave to the afterlife, but I agree this book did end in a happy sort of way, although I was still sad myself (sorry if I said anything wrong I’m not great with explaining things)

patroclus died because of achilles. the way thetis didnt like patroclus but how she wrote his name later on the tomb after listening to patroclus. his freaking memories made a goddess soft, what did you expect of us mortals..the egos of the gods and goddesses are huge dude. its small things that make things sad. happy endings just make them a bit better to digest
@judgmentalanimal
@judgmentalanimal 2 жыл бұрын
It’s not a happy ending or a bad ending, it’s what we in the business like to call Bittersweet. The bitter is that they both died tragically and for a while, Patroclus remained as a spirit because some gremlin (we all know who) couldn’t conceive of the idea his dad was in love with Patroclus. Then the sweet comes when Thetis, after hearing all the stories from Patroclus about Achilles and their time together, writes his name down on the temple so that the two of them can be together forever in death.
