I prefer the original anime's "I don't know" scene more It's more naturally uncomfortable like it hits you with the double meaning of "ah *something* did happen" and " I should stop talking about this *now* " Not so much in a out right terrifying way but in a more subtle "I stepped on a landmine" kinda way Something that is used to slowly build the horror up as an unsettling feeling creeps within the subconscious of both Keiichi and the watcher While on the other hand in Go They play the scene like Keiichi accidently walked into a wall which makes Rena appear to be actively hostile only for her to revert back to her usual demeaner shortly after This kinda turns the situation into a bit of a psychological hit and run affair which makes you instinctively put your guard up waiting for Rena to do something only for her to pull back to come at you later It doesn't become a question of IF Rena will bring harm to Keiichi but WHEN will Rena bring harm to Keiichi The way the scene is shot cheapens the overall value of the scenario itself as it loses it's feelings of a creeping Dread

@@sirrealgaming6913 i know that sotsu sucks But in my opnion gou was really good and started super strong The gun finale was super lit and seeing satoko and Rika break was heartbreaking (still wish they developed more it instead of being "satoko cant study" because its so much more than that they couldve just make satoko try to help rika realize hinamizawa is great without hurting her friends and really slowly make her a villain

Thank you for the video. I'm a long term VN player and Higurashi comfortably sits as my favorite VN of all time. The main reason is the sound design, including sound effects, and text speed/auto scroll that accompany these sound. I've tried almost every single horror VN since then but no one comes even close to the level of Higurashi in this regard, and I believe it's partly due to many games having voice actor, which prioritize voice over sound design. I strongly believe every adaptation of Higurashi is worse than the un-voiced VN (I don't care about which visual version) due to this, and yes, I've also played the voiced version of Higurashi VN, it is not as good. I really wish more people would find interest in sould design in VN and create more games like this.

I read all of Higurashi’s VN with voice, and it’s my favorite story of all time. idk about you but the voice acting in Higurashi for me is stellar, specially in the VN. The scenes in Meakashi where Shion is… doing Shion things give me chills because of her voice (and the music too of course) I really can’t see the voices making Higurashi worse compared to the no voice version. I don’t mean to say the no voice it’s bad! I’m just saying for me it isn’t worst for having voice

but... it's weird. I don't feel like it's very natural to just CUT out anything. Cicadas are an essential part of Higurashi. Cicadas live for a short time, while causing a whole lot of noise. Alike to nature, they die off quickly. So is the story of Higurashi. Like a Cicada, it makes alot of noise, just to die off quickly The Cicada is the story of Hinamizawa, a quiet beginning with a loud and a violent end.

I like the Gou approach better because it's so sudden and therefore jarring and more powerful.

Still, the new Higurashi anime is pretty bad Imo, it lacks what the OG had + defeats the whole purpose of it just for the sake of it

While Gou is decent but unneeded and Sotsu is trash AT the exception of the animation and the DBZ fight scene, and Gou/Meguri manga is better but still far from the masterpiece of the original, I believe it actually had overall decent ideas, it just executed them terribly.

I think the 2006 anime version is better composed and eerie. The vn felt too cutesy for me and the horror while amazing didnt feel like it lend itself to the mannerisms and shadowing using in 2006.
@k3salieri5 ай бұрын
The VN builds its story around the characters and their relationships. (Something the anime didn't understand) Higurashi isn't about the horror at all. Going into chapter 1 blind provides the best possible experience since it doesn't poison the story with "This is a horror VN" and allows the story to build and have you care about these characters before things start going sour. In the end, the message of Higurashi is that if you need help then don't be afraid to ask for it. Some things you just can't change on your own.
@auztarmalow155 ай бұрын
@k3salieri The thing is, I also got that from the anime. People are quick to point out to the horror, but the scenes and shots do cue us about how the characters feel and act. It's also not like the characters were lost in translation as their faces and their thoughts are also shown visually just in different aspects of the anime, which is something people aren't willing to see. I'd actually say the horror was done better in the anime, but the vn is still pretty good just through the facial complexity alone. The soundtrack is also something to point out, I genuinely prefer it than the vn ost. Festivals are amazing on vn as well as others, but a good chunk of the soundtrack in the first 4 episodes sounds very artificial. I understand it was Ryukishi07 first vn and all that, but since we are already talking about the differences between the two, i minus well points that out.

@MsGreendaylover4ever5 ай бұрын
I think Highurashi TV was put together more cohesively, enough to be more true to the early iterations (Costume design, focus). But both still skip over those serious, gut wrenching, awkward beats. They're also both quite washed out. I always used to think that scene was so beautiful at the trash dump but the compositions and the focus on Keiichi instead of Rena just completely pulls me out of the moment.

I didn't care for the original Higurashi VN... but man, the OP of the anime adaptation?
@k3salieri5 ай бұрын
The OP is really good. The anime is trash. So much so that even Ryukishi (The creator of higurashi) had to come in with season 2 to try and fix a lot of the stuff the Studio missed, using the first three episodes of Season 2 to correct things. The studio didn't understand the source material at all. Banger intro though.

Why are Japanese live action media so... R-worded?
@ben_sisko21492 жыл бұрын
Jesus, I mean no disrespect... but, like 99% of Japanese (live action) actors are terrible. It's seems they cannot read the mood of the scene and always decide to exaggerate stuff by default.

But the voice actors are peak
@k3salieri5 ай бұрын
@@Remisaku They take voice acting extremely seriously and the actors are celebrities on a whole other level. I'm glad that English dubbing is finally starting to reach a similar level with voice actors and voice directors that take the job as serious as "real acting". As for Live Action, I'd say it really comes down to the director to step in and direct the actors on what they need to be doing.
