I did the Sound of Music tour in 2012, and I have never forgotten the astoundingly amazing scenery I saw around Salzburg. But that tour only covered a fraction of what you have shown in this incredible video. The way you have put it together, blending the scenes of the film with the locations as they look today, is Oscar-worthy. Your final scene brought tears to my eyes. I can't thank you enough for making this film.

I made a similar journey about 10 years ago. I can now appreciate this video very much as I relive the journey with you. Your video is much higher quality than my old photos. I was captivated by the film when I was 22 and I am now 77 years old. I can almost not believe that a film could have so much emotional impact on me. Thank you very much for sharing this with us. note, when I went to the top of the mountain I took images from the original movie to check the mountains to make sure I'd found the proper places much like you must have done. Your talent really shows here so beautifully done. I thought the use of John Denver music as odd but highly appropriate. John was a friend of mine in Aspen...also a beautiful mountain community.

Having worked at 20th Century-Fox for some 25 years and having been their 'unofficial' studio historian... Along with everyone else that viewed this, I too congratulate the person who produced this wonderful and iconic location video! First class editing and photography, and for all those who can't see the various locales for THE SOUND OF MUSIC themselves, this is the next best thing for sure... A lot of time, effort and certainly research went into this. CLEOPATRA almost bankrupted 20th Century-Fox, this musical saved them... but unfortunately a few years later the musicals STAR with Julie Andrews, Doctor Dolittle and HELLO DOLLY all flopped badly -such is the crap shoot that is making movies. But Fox wasn't alone in the 1960's... Paramount failed with DARLING LILI and PAINT YOUR WAGON, Universal failed with SWEET CHARITY and Warner Bros failed with FINIANS RAINBOW and CAMELOT. It's not enough to be a hit on Broadway with great music... More than a good script, cast and director -it's the timing of the release, and what worked so well in one decade, is ignored in another. It's like what Oscar-winning screenwriter William Goldman (BUTCH CASSIDY) said -"In HOLLYWOOD nobody knows nothing." Here's looking at you PORTAL 606...director Robert Wise would've loved your tribute so much, as would have all the cast and crew...

Greetings from Southern California, USA! Thank you so much for the beautiful and nostalgic 36:18 minutes of reliving the time when we visited Austria not too long ago, walking all over Salzburg , taking the Sound of Music Tour bus. If it wasn't for the Covid19 pandemic, I would have flown over there and savor the beauty, the culture, the arts, the people and the cuisine right now! Unfortunately, American are not welcome anywhere because of uncontrollable Covid19 infections and deaths due to our inept leadership. Great job and thanks again for the opportunity to reminisce one of my favorite places in the world. Please pray for us:)

I remember taking a class trip in 1965 to see "The Sound of Music" at a large theater in NYC. It only first opened at select theaters in the country. To this day, it is my favorite movie. I also saw it in NYC back in 1965 ; I think it was at the Rivoli Theatre; long gone now. Amazing cinematography; sadly a stroke prevented me from ever visiting Austria. Strangely, most fans think the film was shot in Switzerland. Though not historically accurate, the film remains a masterpiece!

Portal 606, I can't express much my appreciation but thank you very much for a very well-researched and thorough video of showing the exact locations around Salzburg in Austria where the Sound of Music was filmed. I immensely enjoyed it. Not only is Austria divinely beautiful but the captured footage that you have made including those scenes from the movie made it an absolute moment for me to appreciate it. The Sound of Music from we were young to even now that I am grown-up is but a piece of heaven for me, and I thank you for letting me relieve memory lane through all the exact film locations that the movie was shot. Even when I was in Salzburg last 2015, I only covered around 50% of what you have impressively done here. Well done with this lovely work of your's.

Dear portal 606: The praise you have received in the comments, to date, is well-deserved - congratulations! In addition to being a excellent, enjoyable documentary, I think that your video constitutes a wonderful (and a very admirable) statement about *yourself*. Your determination to satisfy your curiosity about the filming locations for “The Sound of Music” took you on a journey that was psychologically (and perhaps spiritually) very deep. Because you are young enough to be my son, I find it very touching that you (apparently) find “The Sound of Music” to be as important and meaningful as I do. I do not know your personal reasons for this, nor what compelled you to invest such a substantial amount of time and effort in your project. But you seem to understand that the movie is more than an expertly-crafted work of cinematographic art. It is an affirmation of beauty, joy and hope - and it speaks to people around the world and across generations. So, in my opinion, your documentary is a heartfelt gift to your fellow human beings. What a marvelous act of lovingkindness you have performed! Your documentary is grand, but it is not pretentious. Your undertaking was very ambitious - and serious - but the little touches of humor, here and there, demonstrate that your project was also handled in a spirit of light-heartedness. This balance that you struck, in and of itself, impresses me very much. It’s great, too, that you have included brief shots of yourself in your video. For me - as well as for other viewers, judging from some of the comments - these inclusions serve to make us feel like vicarious companions on your amazing journey of discovery. Additionally, for me, it feels as though you are saying: “Take heart! Do not despair! In an era when nihilism is fashionable and so many people have become jaded and cynical, you are not alone!” My good fellow: thank you very, very much! Best wishes, P.A.

The Christmas market was fantastic if course. When i saw the Herbert von karajohn platz it took my breath away, it was at night and the lights just lit it up. Truly spectacular! When i watch the film and see the steps and the wall Monchsberg i have the exact same picture. I truly left my heart in Salzburg! Id like to return because i want to be there much longer than just a day! Then i will reclaim my heart and i will leave a lock on the footbridge Makartsteg Bridge (Love Lock Bridge) in the old city. This fine video shows me why id love to return! To climb every mountain! Thanks so much!! Much ❤!

How wonderful!! We were just in Salzburg a couple weeks ago! We were also there 20 years ago and did The Sound Of Music tour which was really great. Watching this video after just getting back home to Pittsburgh makes me want to go straight back to Austria!! It’s so incredibly beautiful! Thank you for searching all these incredible places and making the film!!

Absolutely fantastic! You did an incredible job of not only finding the locations as they appear today, but in doing the seamless edits with the clips from the film. Bravo!

Thank you so very much for this video. It is absolutely brilliant showing off the history of Austria, the beauty of Austria, and, of course, the timeless message of the Sound of Music-Truly inspirational.
