Nick Shabazz is the best knife reviewer on the Tube. I picked this little "gem" up before the review came out hoping he would sing its praises. Though THAT didn't happen I'm still very happy with my purchase. I'm not as advanced in my collectig and this is a good piece for me. And I suspect given enough time Mr. Shabazz will be looking for this little piece again, as he's done with others.

Agree with many of your points. I feel the bad you pointed out are more personal preference than actual flaws or negatives on the knife. I’d like to see more of the construction pointed out in your reviews. Like how the pivot is captured and the lock bar seems to have been carbidized. I’m sure you covered that in your disassembly video, but it needs to be included in the pros/cons of your reviews. Solid as always.

It’s a great little big knife and it’s far superior to the Pilar and Squid. It’s very well made and has that utilitarian Eastern European vibe.

The Pilar is so nice it has me looking at other Voxnaes designs with Fox and GiantMouse. At least there, I feel like $220 would be well-spent. Ditto for Liong Mah, bred from my love for the CRKT Journeyer. (they're currently going for $18 at BHQ, BTW) I think the strong detent was a nod toward those in NYC, where they seem to confuse 'gravity' with 'inertia.' A strong detent will keep it from ever opening under inertia. I LOVED my Spydiechef. Fell out of my pocket on a playground over Christmas while playing with my daughter; that was a real kick in the nuts. At least when you sold yours, you got something for it...

Interesting how tastes vary. I found myself agreeing across the board until you got to the standoffs. I'll take standoffs with some color pop over a backspacer all day long, but I like open back construction. I also like a strong detent whenever I can get it. However, I still think the knife is overpriced.

Nick does a good job here to generally qualify his criticisms as not aligning with his preferences. Personally, I prefer the Techno 2 to the original, do not have Nick's ugly issue on opening, and am not bothered by the standoffs nor the clip position. It's a lighter/more streamlined version with a better/thinner blade and improved jimping. It still maintains most of the heft and tank-ness, and it simply feels right in my hand, even better than the original. While I did appreciate the original's 'personality,' especially its resemblance to a mouse (as the Slysz version is aptly named), I knew right out of the box that the 2 would replace it for me. De gustibus non est disputandum. Great review as always, Nick :)

1) They're called barrel spacers, not stand-offs. It's just a cosmetic preference. You like a G10 back spacer, others like a nice, brightly-anodized set of barrel spacers. I think the Benchmade 940-1 and -2 started the trend. 2) Balance point is right where your middle finger would grip it; seems perfect to me. 3) Weight: 3.5 oz. of this, compared to 4.1 oz. on the Pilar. But who cares, really? Most of us aren't backpackers. 4) Props for giving the Pilar proper credit. The Pilar is a screaming deal, even with its cheaper materials. Do me a favor though: look at the inside of the back spacer in your Pilar. Has it got a cut in it from the blade edge hitting it when closed hard? That's one thing mine has that I canNOT forgive, even at $25. The bright side is that at this price, I won't balk at taking it apart and Dremeling a groove into the back spacer. While I'm at it, I'll smooth out the relief cuts in the lock bar, which make it a bit snaggy when pulling it out of the pants pocket when carried tip-up. 5) Agreed about the lanyard hole. That was a BAD decision. ALMOST everybody uses the pocket clip, and almost everybody prefers deep carry. The little fancy fobs people are doing now...don't even get me started on how gay that is. As a good compromise, what if they drilled the lanyard hole right through the clip, ala Native? Except make it a deep carry clip. 6) This would actually be a good knife for proper pocket carry. Maybe even coin pocket carry. 7) Good point about the opening interference. You called it ugly, and rightfully so. There's no excuse for this in a $220 knife. At that price, everything should be PERFECT.

I revisited this review after owning this knife for a number of months. While I am a fan of Batman Shabaaz, there is much I disagree with here. This knife is a blast to thumb flick open and close with one hand. It has this uncanny feeling of a loose, easy action to open and close but with a bank vault lockup. You have to feel it to get what I mean. The weight is not an issue at all and only adds to the overall feel of the build in the hand. The open back with green posts are really nice and an improvement over the ugly blue backspacer on the 1. The Pilar is nice for the price but is not in the same universe as this knife and this knife is a major improvement to the Techno 1 in every way (especially the blade, which is as nice as the Bowie's blade). I love this beauty so much that bought a second one and had Blades We Love do it in a blue anno (sublime). While I adore the Spidiechef, the Techno 2 is closer in blade quality and overall finish to the Bowie.

Love this review, although certain disappointments that you have with this knife allowed you to miss a couple of items on the knife that should have been included. The first one is part of what you thoroughly review and that is the opening and design there of as well as the closing. You were spot on with the closing of the knife as the T-2 could really use a little "custom" machining on the show side right where you pointed out: top left-hand side of the scale. Artistically it might be a challenge but those hot spots at least on the show side could use more chamfer and possibly a little more rounded or a little more material removed or a little of both. Maybe a bit more edge rounding. With regard to the opening, I did move my thumb more like your secondary position to compensate for the fact that you can't do the spydy angle opening method. But, if you use thumb/nail combination with a quick flick on my version of the 2, it positively flies open. Yes, I have to ensure to keep my thumb back just a bit to not follow the blade and hit that sharp edge. but the click is very solid and satisfying and the engagement really is rock solid. Following that opening, if flicked just right, the thumb can easily quiuckly follow to the lock bar because of the beautiful relieving on the left scale of the lock bar. A nice close up of that relief is sort of what gives this knife an A+ rating, just for that. Further, you'll notice as your eye follows back down the lock bar, the amount of relief or machining that was done to the lock bar trail end and just how thin the stock is there on the Titanium. Another triumph for Spyderco and Taichung because the result is a lock bar that is not overly stiff and therefore makes one-hand closing a joy. The curves of the blade are a joy to behold with the blade open and the knife resting vertically on the blade travel-through-opening section of the knife with the lock bar side facing you. Then the knife looks like and art piece. Your point is well taken regarding the clip, its placement and the resultant hot spots. However, I see why Spyderco did that. The aesthetics of the lanyard hole looks better to me than the T-!. I also agree that the handle stock could have been milled just a bit more for thinner scales and knife width overall. I likie the knife and am going to keep it and would buy another if this one got sold or lost. I prefer the standoffs to the back spacer and the green is OK with me. Perhaps a silver or blue option for the T-2 would be nice, but it almost looks Kelly Green to me. Great knife. AF

I haven't handled the Techno 2. However I can say with reasonable confidence that the idea behind favouring the lanyard hole over the pocket clip on this knife has everything to do with the handle length. People may want a chunky lanyard to extend the grip in the hand and make it more comfortable overall. If the knife was bigger I don't think they'd have done that. Those with bigger hands especially may want to add the lanyard. It makes sense. It might not be the best when weighing the less-than-ideal pocketclip placement but you can at least see why they did it.

I need help. I'm gonna buy one of two. Either the "Spyderco PM2 REX45 Copper", or "Spyderco Techno 2" I've seen you can upgrade your knives, customize them, and especially the "SC Techno 2". First of all, doest it already use Phosphorous Bronze Washers"? I ask since I saw them for sale on eBay. Also, Titanium hardware isn't it better than the "Stainless Steel" they use, rusting with time, not so strong at the points they will be used. And you get a nice Green or Gold or Blue colored screws and pinmstopper.(bladestopper). And ,I would go for green, so a smaller lanyard with a green(or maybe I choose blue) would be nice. So, I'm not sure, but for a Pivot, is SS better than Titanium? And we can always get a nice Backspacer and a pocket clip(,even if I like the wire). So, I ask you, what's the best washers, and does they come original? I like Dark Greyish Stonewashed blade,,,,and Handles. (But I'm not against the feel of Sebemza's Blasted(-sand) either. And I'm in fact debating if I should go for the new "Small Sebemza 3",, I asked for a Darker stonewashed S45VN, but I still love the blasted handles that shows great patina over the years to come. And you can alway get it fixed. Also double thumb studs, and a hope for better ones, just little thicker garter up, please 🙏. They would look at ALL my wishes, and that surprised me really. So, I'm looking forward, hopefully for something great🙏☀️🙂🤗🌈

I totally like my techno 2. Much more than the original. Most of the bad and ugly nitpicks Nick makes are good points to me. Green stand offs look so much better than the blue backspacer. I removed the clip and added a short lanyard. Awesome knife.

The techno 2 is actually THICKER than the first one. Why they made that decision I have no idea.

Wpieter 24 if I recall correctly, the Techno 1 was one of the overbuilt “big little knives”. However the era of super thick blades for small knives seems to have mostly passed. Since the Techno 2 blade is thinner, I assume they wanted to retain aspects of the original-like similar overall knife thickness (relatively “big” feel in the hand), equivalent materials of the blade and scales, and the “eyebrow” over the Spyderco hole. To me, many people with the Techno 1 wanted a thinner blade, and many people added modifications like different color spacers and screws. The Techno 2 seems to embrace these things with the color standoffs

@@davidk6665 yeah but, its a lot thicker. I'd understand if it was the same thickness, but that's a little much

I actually think the green backspacers make it a “techno” it’s got that neon lights vibe. But yeah. Blue or red would have been better probably

Would have been less in line with the design language for the other Slyz knives but a ramp like on the Brouwer around the spydiehole would help. Or just thinner scales. Look how deep that lockbar cutout has to be to make it spring, it’s huge! Such fat scales are ridiculous

It’s a cute knife but not $215.00 cute! I’ll get the CRKT Pilar and not only save a bundle but get a Hemingway, Confidence in Hand.

it maybe loses the best things about Techno 1... the deep carry clip... it's at an angle across the lockbar to increase pocket access and above the lanyard hole...also the thick blade and too much belly made it very pointy... stab through a car tire or pierce aluminum cans, metal studs and drywall, a suboptimal utility blade but a lot of emergency piercing power in a small package

I like the look of it and I don't think the price is horrible, however if I wanted something small and high end I would buy a small inkosi with an insingo blade. Which is what I did. Who am I kidding I'll buy one anyway.
