Season 3, Episode 5 "Initiation" - Ryan is taken by Dwight on what he believes is a sales call, but instead is brought to Dwight's beet farm for an "initiation." Pam is supposed to keep track of Michael Scott's productivity, but Michael spends his day waiting in line for a pretzel. Jim steals Karen's chair and foils her attempts to get it back.

@@PlayaP69 Karen was trying to annoy Jim by constantly squeaking the chair, so he began singing a well known song so that she would get it stuck in her head. Saying it wasn't a proportionate response is basically her saying that the song is more annoying than the chair. And it was Jim singing, not Andy.

Well, as soon as she moved to scranton, her personality started changing. And at the party with David Wallace, the time in New York before the interview, and just in the office, we see how truly their personalities clash. What Karen thought was fun and what she thought was funny, didn't necessarily interest Jim. They were both sarcastic, but sometimes you never could tell with her. Jim and Pam just have that connection. Their senses of humor go hand in hand, they make any situation fun, whether it's something they both don't like (the episode where they worked late and had a date on the building's roof while Michael was making a big sale), and they care about eachother so much to the point to where they're naturally more gentle and loving with eachother. Karen would've probably worked out, and she did work for Jim, but only temporarily. It was good that the two broke up, they were obviously meant for other people. As soon as Karen gets that manager job somewhere else, she meets a guy, gets married, and pregnant immediately. This new guy obviously did something right. And same with Jim, bought an engagement ring after the first week of dating Pam. It's little things that helps the big picture make sense, otherwise things won't really work.

I agree that their chemistry was amazing but it made sense to me that they weren’t end game because they usually didn’t agree upon the bigger picture aspects of their relationship. Perhaps that might be because subconsciously Jim wasn’t invested.

I must admit to the crime. I once stole a coworkers chair, it was a normal chair, nothing wrong with it, the others were.... not as good as that one.... I didnt notice that it wasnt my chair until 3 days AFTER the theft..... there was a note that had the name of who owned the chair below the seat....

My favorite "Jimspression"s have always been the ones in this office branch: The one where he places Andy's belonging in jello. And this one. I think they're genuinely funny because of how the "nervous system" works in relation to laughter. Like with Dwight, Jim is closer to sure what Dwight's response will be with a prank. But with Andy, Jim really does not know and its just funnier as he watches with unsured nervousness, hoping for amusement. 😂🤣😭😅😆

I like that they gave jim another relationship and they allowed Karen to be a likable character who was even pretty compatible with him. They could’ve easily written her as a villain like they did with Roy, which would’ve been lazy writing. It shows that in real life we can have relationships with people that don’t work out, but it doesn’t automatically make them villains.

My take-away is: there's Pams and Jims in every office. How your life turns out, even who you marry, is mostly determined by where you live and work. If Jim hadn't met Pam he'd have married Karen. Nothing in life is "meant to be". It's all chaos.

But what determines where you live and work? From that perspective, nothing is random, the universe operates in perfect order. What you really mean is, there is no such thing as a "soul mate". There is no one person for anyone else. I definitely agree with you on that, and I don't even know where the concept of a soul mate came from... Probably was invented by Disney...

This is a paraphrasing of a quote from Plato, for reference the source material is called “The Symposium”

Cardigans - lovefool is a song about how she was in love with someone who loved someone else/moved on. Great choice by the writers to include a song that was literally describing Jim's predicament yet not actually including the part of the song that says that.

Omg this happened in my highschool sophomore year for the entire second semester! My math class had a squeaky desk with a heart carved into the right corner and it started at the far right of the room and I was the first to have it. I physically switched my desk with the one behind me so that it was now that the person behind me had the squeaky desk. This continued in a snake pattern until it eventually hit the teacher in which this girl literally picked up the desk and replaced the teacher’s chair with it and she didn’t notice for about half an hour
