The fact that he’s turning 29 soon just surprises me how fast time flies. He really surprised everyone before fading away from the limelight.

It's weird how so many players from that 2014 Germany squad had a cursed post-Cup career. Schurrle fell so much in form he retired before the age of 30, Götze's career took a dive (though he I know had a grave health issue), Özil not only fell in form but also fell hard out of favour with German supporters, Grosskreutz who's just 33 and already retired (after spending his final seasons in unimpressive teams), and now Draxler. Sure, players like Kroos, Neuer, Muller and Khedira went on to shine (some of them still do). I'm not saying the entire squad was cursed (unless the pathetic 2018 campaign counts as cursed lol), it's just that 2014 Germany team, with so many young players, seemed poised to begin a long and victorious dynasty, yet it was precisely the younger players who (to a great extent) had the shorter or less stellar careers.

I feel like young German World Cup winners share this commonality. People "expect" so much from them and so quickly forget about the human beings they are at the end of the day. Gotze, Schurrle, Draxler, so many more

Last time I even thought about Draxler, he was still in Vfl Wolfsburg. Many how time flies.

The fact that Löw held on to Draxler as a centerpiece of his selection for as long as he did, despite his barren spell in Paris, was one of the most cited symptoms of the national teams stagnation post-WC. Maybe he definitely needed that proverbial kick in the butt to look for a way out of L1.

Always blew my mind as to why PSG didn't try to sell Draxler when Neymar/Mbappe came in. Should have easily got 30/40 million for him. Thought he would have been a good buy for a Spurs, a Inter, even a Atletico Madrid at the time. Still, he preferred to sit on his contract and collect the paychecks. Both Draxler and Dybala are both of this lost generation of potential top 10 world players that never got to their potential heights. Trying to think of others over the last decade who've failed in similar ways.

I feel like he and Mario Götze are very alike but while Draxler stayed at a Club where he doesn't play, Götze switched to a smaller team where he can constantly play

Draxxler, Verrati, Neymar & few others are prime example of up & coming footballers what not to do. You go there as the most promising talent, stick with them for so long but as soon a new talent comes, you just end thrown to the side like trash. PSG have no responsibility on wasting money or feeling regret for dumping a player... at for Real Madrid, Bale & Hazard were tried to get something out of them, PSG has no incentive to get something out of them cause the money has no connection with the club or what's on the pitch. Man C does this a bit with certain talents too.

I remember how people were going crazy with the trio of Sane, Julian and Max. That trio really stunned the Bundesliga for sure that season and they were so young. Schalke top 3 talents. All 3 went different routes out of them only Sane is the one who did really well the other 2 just lost their way one way or another that is seriously heartbreaking to watch. But this is not something new in footballing world many talented youngsters have lost their way can beany reason. But it is seriously made how out of that trio only one achieved his true potential and other 2 just wasted.

Liked this guy. He was a talent at Schalke. At this point, him signing an extension when he's not playing is no longer football related. Pretty sure he's comfortable with the money and has an agenda elsewhere. There are plenty of talented footballers willing to just sit around and do nothing because the money is good. When asked to move, they will always cite an excuse for the club to find them another club that's playing the CL so that they can remain "competitive".

I think Draxler thinks it preferable to stay at PSG for the upbringing of their child; he is getting a good salary --- enough for leading a comfortable elite life in a city like Paris --- and he doesn't want to get separated from his girlfriend whose career is based in France by joining another club. There's another player who had the same experiance at the club, hatem ben arfa if you know him, he was one of the most talented players in the whole europe and was playing for newcastle, but his carrer went down since he focused more on dribbles and skills inside the pitch other than goals and assists, then he moved to ligue 1 with nice and had a great season, scoring great goals abd giving assists, but, in his fiest succssesful season with them, he decided to sign for psg, althought psg were literally buying star players every season, so, you could have your spot taken in the spawn of a year, and this is exactly what happened, neymar and mbappé signed next season and he was forgotten entirely

Its a rough situation for above average 25-30 year olds in top tier football these days. If you're not a top talent you're fighting for your spot, both against veterans who are getting older and older but still play great and youngsters who are already better than you at 19. Add to that you're the last of a generation that didnt have state of the art fitness regimes and you keep getting injured and your club pays you a lot because they need the depth option.

At that time he had found a girlfriend who loved Paris,so with his wages he lived a lavish lifestyle with his high maintenance WAG. The Wolfsburg transfer was odd. It's their most expensive signing because he was supposed to be a straight replacement for De Bruyne, but Draxler should've moved abroad. Unfortunately PSG brought Neymar and Mbappe one window after PSG bought him.

A great player in my opinion...I am from Paris but honestly believed he should have never signed with PSG! They have had a huge amount of good players who went there to become anonymous after a year or two. Draxler , Kurzawa, etc are good example! Nkunku wasn't playing and moved to RB Leipzig, best thing he could have done...I think he signed with Chelsea. Hope Julian comes back in top form.
