Today we look into Lady Galadriel during the time of the First Kinslaying in the First Age. Was it Galadriel's First Battle? We look into all kinds of versions from the books Tolkien wrote in quite some detail and I try to untangle this version chaos.

I don't think anyone could have set this out better! personally I choose to think she did but, sadly, we have not yet found a medium skilled enough to submit the question to good ol JRR himself. I have to admit that is quite a 'what if' to play with--what if they had helped. You make a very good point here. Now I love elves, don't get me wrong. but they have a very high opinion of themselves. That they're above the foils that men would be prone to. But here is a great example of how susceptible they really are to greed and desire. I also love how changes in Celeborn were in part because of what it would mean for Galadriel's motivations.

Thank you ^^ Yes it's really fascinating how Tolkien developed this character over time and how different Elves are in this time.

Thank you for this wonderful video. I guess most folks have their own head canon for what actually happened to Galadriel. I know I do.😅

I personally think Tolkien wanted to make some things about her more clear - but less complex. We can definiely say that every character is a product of the developement during the characters AND the writers life. For me it looks like he wanted to make Galadriel less questionable, by all these questions coming up in modern life, at his time upcoming, in our times already escalating in specif areas of the world, completely ignoring the complexity of beings in general, tearing everything into pieces, unable to understand a dynamic thing, like a character, without cutting them into tiny pieces to inspect. Which is needed for judgement though, not for understanding. I think the original version is good enough, those who question her character are even given a deep, bright mirror to look into.

Chris, I am pretty sure that Fëanor needed the Teleri to navigate the ships. There is no way the Fëanorians could have gotten on those ships and figured out how to sail them by themselves. Also, I think the ships were pulled by giant swans, weren't they? I think most of us read this part and assume the Fëanorians did sail the ships themselves. Maybe that is what Tolkien wants us to think, but in reality only an idiot would think that is possible.

I think Galadriel fought in the Alqualondë Kinslaying alongside her Teleri kin, but I don't think she killed any Fëanorians. I also think at this time she realized she had made a deal with the 👿....

When will the next Book to Film compairson video appear? It's been nine months since the last one and you said before those videos would getting released more frequently compaired to before and yet you only made more lore videos and reveiwing The Rings of Power (which I haven't seen because I don't have Amazon but as much as I have heard the show is bad, especially for not following Tolkien more closely and Wingnut Films aren't involved with it, not even Alan Lee and John Howe as concept artists, I'm happy that I'm missing it out). I wish you'd just starting picking some slack and do those videos more frequently, like one video every month so we can go through the second half of the film and get to The Two Towers because the pace go oh-so-slow.

If I remember correctly I said: when Who is Elrond is done, it would probably return more frequently 🤞. But Who is Elrond is not done yet (maybe 2-3 videos are still missing). Technically Who is Elrond was planned to be part of the film/book differences series (same as the Who is Glorfindel video). The last Elrond one was this here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iNOSgLF2sLbQpps.html I'm currently working on yet another lore video. And then I might work on another Who is Elrond part. Currently my channel is also struggling getting views (which worries me greatly) and I'm experimenting a bit. The last film/book video did not do really well =/ But I will add an episode here and there. Rings of Power won't have a season this year as far as I know, so more time for making other videos I guess. But unfortunately I can't tell you a date. Sorry for letting you down so much on the series. The release pace for it will remain slow for some time though =/ Also I want to hint at that for me personally Who is Elrond and also the Two Galadriel lore videos I made are for me among the best things I ever did on this channel. So ofc I put a lot of energy into those

Celeborn being from Alqualondë really destroys my head canon on Galadriel. But it may have been Tolkien's last thought on the lineage of Celeborn.😒

How come Teleri do not recognize Feanor's motivation as their own too, to the extent? Weren't they separated from their kin who stayed in Middle Earth because of Thingol? Didn't they feel any pity for the suffering of their brothers and sisters in Middle Earth? Didn't they feel any moral obligation to send their, so to speak, special forces to help the Noldor in their fight against Morgoth? Don't forget that when Feanor arrived, Cirdan and his people were under siege and he would've been destroyed by Morgoth's forces. He only survived because Feanorians appeared and obliterated Morgoth's army. It's easy to shame Feanor for the stealing of Teleri ships, but when you read between the lines, there much more to be said about Teleri cowardice behaviour.

The Teleri are not really "fighters" and Doriath is protected by the girdle of Melian. Also by bringing doom upon the Noldor, the Valar would not come and help until the curse of the Silmarilli was broken and ultimately the Noldor lost the war quite convincingly. Only due to Aman coming to help, Morgoth could be defeated. Also the Fëanoreans did not come to Middle-earth to help, they came to get the Silmarilli back. It was not a "let's prepare with the Valar and Maiar to help our friends" motivation. Tears unnumbered were ordered and tears unnumbered they got. In the one text Tolkien wrote it also seems that the best solution would have been leaving Beleriand, getting more allies and cutting off potential reinforcements, instead of a direct confrontation in Beleriand. So I don't see what the Noldor did as wise, brave or successful or that the Teleri were cowards.

In book of lost tales there were some Falmari traitors who se retly supported the Noldor. There are no more traces left 8f that inthe later works... Feanor was a fanatic who led a sect of apostates, even the Fingolfinians and some Finarfinians were splitband to some degree influenced by the Thoughts abd doubts spead by Morgoth and repeated by Feanor and his followers... but not so the Vanyar and Falmari!

@@ThePhilosophersGames You see, Cirdan was outside Melian's girth. So were others, like Nandor Elves. The war could have had a different outcome had Noldor and Teleri/Sindar were united against Morgoth. Even though Noldor didn't come to Middle Earth to directly help Sindar in their struggle, they did it indirectly by fighting the common enemy with force much stronger Sindar could ever gather were they alone. But my comment mainly was about Teleri themselves and how detached they are from the destiny of their kin in Middle Earth.
@ThePhilosophersGames
@ThePhilosophersGames Жыл бұрын
No I don't think so. the war would have ended in a loss either way. Only with the help of Aman it could have been won and the actions of the Noldor delayed that help. I think the Valar might have intervened much earlier without Fëanor and the Teleri might have participated there as well. Even in the War of Wrath the Teleri just transported the armies, but did not participate, due to what the Noldor did. Further one could argue that Morgoth speculated on bringing conflict to the Noldor in Aman (dissonance was his thing). I think if he would have noticed in Aman that he could not bring that dissonance to the Elves, he efforts in Middle-earth would have also looked different. Because with what he did, he knew the Noldor would rebel and as a result the Valar would not attack him with full force, so he could do what ever he wanted in Middle-eath and only had to deal with Elves, Dwarves and Men (who were already under his influence as well).

The Teleri were not cowards. Their ships were as important to them as the Silmarils were to Fëanor. They were under zero obligation to aid the Noldor, particularly in something the Teleri did not agree with. Furthermore, Fëanor was the one who pushed the Noldor to leave for Beleriand as soon as they possibly could, without thinking about the welfare of the Noldor or waiting to hear what the Valar might counsel. He knew the longer he waited, the more Noldor would reconsider whether his plan was wise or not but he did not care as he was only interested in revenge and getting the Silmarils back. Let's remember, Fëanor did not just steal the ships, he killed many Teleri to get them and then left many of his kin stranded when he sailed off with the stolen ships and burned them upon reaching Beleriand. The primary accomplishment of he and his followers was to get most of the Noldor killed.
