So, I'm back listening to this again. I can't stop myself.

I always get chills when Parker sings 'Don't paint me black when I used to be golden.' I think it means like "I know that things have changed and we aren't what we used to be, but don't make it seem like our memories together were a waste of time. They were golden." I don't know it's just kind of how I interpret it. I also think it's called 'Clairvoyant' because he can like see the future of their relationship and that it's coming to an end. This is a beautiful song and The Story So Far is amazing.

This is why I fucking love music so be everything else. When you find yourself wandering aimlessly through memories and missed chances. Those decisions you were afraid to make so life just passed you by. All it takes is one song that is written with that same amount of intuition and it snaps you back into reality. Life sucks but the joy that comes after picking yourself back up, that fucking connection is what drives us all. You keep going even if your broken and bleeding. Looking back only slows you down.

clairvoyant in this regard means "seeing things for what they really are" so in a sense hes breaking down the situation and trying to lay it out in front of her and say "this is what it is"

my dad would always listen to this while driving when i was really young (5-7 years old) so i always sort of knew about this song, but forgot about it for years. i recently remembered it completely out of the blue and searched the lyrics i could remember for half an hour until i found it. i never realized how sad it was and how much it hits home now that i’m older. it gave me a bittersweet, nostalgic feeling because this was a really memorable song from my childhood. i really wish i could go back and appreciate those times more. this song played a really big part in my life and i’m so glad i found it again.

I've been with my ex for almost 3 years, and then she left me with an excuse that me and her became different, when none of that even happened,we always had the same interests and we were happy. Haven't contacted her for around 2 months tho. I don't know if she even thinks or misses me. The thing is, we can't be mad about this, we aren't mad at them, we are just mad at the actions that they've taken. I remember listening to this song on the local radio when I was 10. Such a bittersweet melody to reminisce on. Making me remember all the ups and down I experienced back then. Very nostalgic. :)

This album is the soundtrack of my life tbh.

The one thing that amazes me about music, is no matter how varied in genre or 'Story' of the song, people just connect. Language barriers cannot keep people from sharing the emotions or even the meaning of them, wish songs were the answer to humanity's problems rather than violence. At the same time so many interpretations can be taken, because of our own unique view on the world. With this song, one moment i hear a lover lamenting that his relationship is falling apart. The next, i hear a heartfelt plea of a relationship that has ended but he feels that they had weaponized it against each other. This is what i call real music, something where you can take different stories and meanings from behind the same words. That's my thoughts at least. Anyway, personally i find life hard. It tires me out, i live a life of constant let downs and mental struggles. people don't give a crap about me, they only care out of pity. Attempted suicide so many times, never received help for it either. People's idea of help is Small 'Suggestions' of how to make it suck slightly less. I don't want it to suck 'Slightly less' I want it (the pain) to end. Sadly this world cares less about individuals, and more about money; people are out only for themselves. The one thing that helps, music, it is my therapy. Doesn't work all the time, can't always rely on it. But it's made a bigger impact than 'CBT' or any form of medication has. If music could, i would happily use it to cure the world. So many people struggle with mental health issues, it hurts knowing no-one is looking out for them. Hell, I'd give my life for them; Stranger or no. That's how much it hurts. This song has come full circle for me, got me into punk music, and again has brought me back to emotions i lost a while ago. Music is........ medicine.

This song means the world to me. I got the art from this album cover on my arm. I messed up, and ruined the best relationship I had ever had. I've learned my lesson and I've grown as a person quite a bit. She wouldn't recognize me anymore, and I'm very proud of that. I hope every day that she thinks about the golden, but I know she thinks about the black. Probably just as often, if not more, if she even thinks about me at all. She probably doesn't. And I can't blame her. I'm with somebody else now, learning to love again. I don't know where this will go, but I'm going to make sure I'm golden this time.

I love this song so much and not because the lyrics are relevant to me (which they're not), but because you can hear the pain in his voice and I find it almost comforting to know that others have been or are in as much pain as I am.
