I agree with, and admire Yanis a lot , but I would point out that when he says that ,we should not be angry with the people who want to take away what we have , we should be angry with the system, the thing is that the people who want to take away what we have are the ones who have designed and implemented the system and fight tooth and nail to block any change to that system. I can be angry at both.

Why would they? They spend more on lobbying than they do on taxes, and they represent a much greater burden on the armed forces, the FAA, the highways and rails, and the courts than the rest of us do. (I'm deliberately not mentioning the environment, though that one is obvious. But there is no direct relationship with taxes, my main topic here.) Slavery V individual freedom. For most of history that we know of, societies have been King/pharaoh/dictator and their slave model. Then an accident happened…America. A country populated by serfs/slaves.. were in a position to fight the King and miraculously won. A society patchworked together but somehow held and grew without much government. A society of free individuals, building businesses, cities infrastructure, and capitalism. Products and services traded around the world. Free markets, free trade. It worked. When you hold a baby, and look into it’s eyes…. do you see a slave or an individual who might cure cancer, or get us to Mars? That’s the most valuable thing America has given the world…a choice! Individualism works. ❤🇺🇸

The rich only ever act in the interests of themselves, their class. If we were wealthy we would do the same, most of us anyways. The lesson here is not that rich people are evil, it's that any system which allows some few to become so rich and powerful so as to do evil almost by accident. To survive, as a civilization, we must change our economic mode of the distribution of resources, the whole socioeconomic system must be overhaulled to put people and our enforcement first. This is what is needed to survive. This would be smarter.

the force that is corrupting those who do have success or just enough luck is one of the main powers the established system has. As long as a bigger section of the society feels like being lucky, the longer it will be possible to sell the required amount of acceptance to the masses ... ... CBDC for having the status of all resources available in real time - and implementing a data-driven approach to "value maximizing" when it comes to the distribution is what I prefer. Plus a CBDC-backed UBI, so that it is the needs and the related demand of the people that is in the center of resource allocation. Together with a competition of ideas and best practices based on CSCW / Digital Workspace solutions resources and gratifications can be directed to those who "deliver" / maximize the output of the given resources...

Agree society is grossly inefficient in proper distribution. And i believe any human created system running for a long time when it has outlived its purpose will return bad results and nation states in many ways had become that long back and is surviving because we do not have proper alternatives in segregating people who are naturally harmful to each other. The economic model of capitalism has similarly otlived its purpose because nowadays the only benefit we get out of it is not in production of new things because human beings are already flooded with so many new things that they are using cutting edge technologies to kill each other, instead its utility i only see in providing services and supporting the nation states which as we know had already otlived its purpose but is sticking out as there is no alternative in place.

For incarcerated persons, the Eighth Amendment guarantees a certain minimum, and there is no requirement that the person be able to work in return. So how can it be, that someone who has never committed a crime should have less than what society provides to those who have? Also, it's even more obvious for infants, children, and elderly people. Because of the laws of thermodynamics, the universe we live in is capitalist. Look at the Serengeti Plain in Africa; pure, raw, unadulterated capitalism. This doesn't mean that human beings can't build societies that aren't capitalist, but it does mean that if we do someone has to pay for that. Since human beings evolved in an environment similar to the Serengeti Plain, it is a part of us to be selfish and greedy. Oh, sure, in small groups we co-operated to survive, but in the end we couldn't escape the reality of the universe. So, since any utopian system will be implemented using human beings, it will eventually fail because the most selfish and most greedy among us will take over. Who is that? The psychopaths. They lack emotional empathy, so they are extremely selfish, and extremely ruthless. We currently have no protection against them built into either our economic institutions or our political institutions. How would that even be accomplished? Would we force fMRI tests on all powerful people? And what about the ethics of what you are proposing? *_Why_* does some random person have a claim on what another random person produces? Because of your belief? What about their belief? Does your belief trump their belief? For what reason? PS People who believe in karma would argue that your situation in this life is directly based on your actions in your past lives. Or, the state of your awareness determines the state of your life.

So how come that never happened? We went from a country where a summer job paid for a year of in-state college tuition, and two roommates could afford the rent in any city, to what we have now --- and the change started with Reagan. The period of high creativity in Britain (meaning the music, dance, theatre, fashion, film) coincided with . . . "socialist" Harold Wilson. Yes, the Beatles could afford their guitars and drums, and so could everyone else. Yet taxes were much higher then, too -- everywhere. Explain that.

@@l.w.paradis2108 The query is "who are the makers?" It is labor, like the struggeling beatles, that make things, although they were swooped up by marketerse [rentiers] who took most of the profits later. Reagan was a neoliberal. He went on to identify land owners and people who hike rents and don't pay labor as *"Makers"* and would desribe today's grarage bands as *"Takers"* What is clear is what Marx, Adam Smith and others meant when they said "capitalism" wouldn't be reconginzable as capitlism today but would be where we let the makers keep more of what they make or what we call socialism today.

I don't agree with this that we don't deserve what we have. What we have is something our ancestors were building for their children's future. It is mental construct made by hundreds of years of developing society so we could have it this way and I'm very eager to preserve it because I don't think we ever had any better version of society. If others want to have similar society they should build it for their own children, our ancestors were dying for each right we have now, it didn't just fall of the sky to us, so people in third world countries should do the same. We can't and we shouldn't be the one who is solving the problems for others, they have responsibility on their own.

But if the bandit got away with it, and passed it down, your ancestors and you have no more nor less responsibility for it than if you happened to be born to royalty.

That's all very well, but stating the obvious useless if you can't provide a solution that actually works. Socialism and communism were supposed to fix that, theoretically, but it didn't take into consideration human nature and was only held together by brute force. So, there's no point in berating humans for what they are if you can't put forward a workable solution. It just makes you as bad as everyone else, a thinker but not a doer. No one in the history of man has been able to solve this issue because there are always the ones who are prepared to trample on the rest of society. Come back and tell us when you have a solution and a cast iron way of making sure everyone follows the plan, and we might listen to you. Until then it's all just noise in the background.

This guy married a rich heiress and lives a life of luxury. What is he talking about? Plus, if a son of a rich woman does not deserve what he has from his mom... how does a random child of someone else deserve it? There is a lot of valid criticism of the current system, like a ton. But thisextremist criticism ("you deserve nothing of what you own" nothing? really?) makes most people turn away from this ideologues. We know who you are and how your sick utopias end.
