Well, I just saw the trailer for James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, and it looks pretty underwhelming. Is this movie going to suck? Join me as I break it down.

So many times I've heard you warn an upcoming movie was probably going to be disappointing. So many times I shook my fist at the screen and shouted, "But Drinker you, cynical yet erudite thinker, you can't know that just from the trailer! Wait for the movie to come out! Give it a chance!" So many times the movie came out, I put my head in my hands and said, "Darn it, Drinker, you were right. . . again." But this time I enjoyed this movie. I think alot of that has to do with the revolving door syndrome of higher management. It was great and everyone was excited just because of it being the first time superheroes on that level teamed up. DC miss their shot at being the first. The big problem I see with WB's handling of Suicide Squad, is that they're trying to copy the dynamics between the Guardians of the Galaxy, but keep forgetting that that's exactly what Suicide Squad wasn't supposed to be. It was partially a means to get villains with strong personalities to work together, but not get along. In the comics (and even the animated movies), the fact that each member is ultimately disposable and easily replaced, creates a sense of tension. The only goal for the ones stuck in the Squad, is to stay alive until Waller had enough fun, or they find a way to get rid of the bombs. But much of the entertainment is centered around seeing the Suicide Squad deal with each others' abrasiveness and the issue that some of them openly despise each other, plus they all become the laughingstock of the criminal underworld. But at the end of the day, they are only driven by their desire to get back at Waller, and it's also the only unifier between them, which isn't a whole lot. So ,the movies trying to sell this dumbass sense of camaraderie between them just feels wrong on way too many levels, especially with Captain Boomerang among them - y'know, the insanely racist and constantly cursing aussie? Hard to imagine that anyone would want to be friends with him, when he's always the asshole.
@AdderTude3 жыл бұрын
At least they had some semblance of tension in the first one, with Digger telling Slipknot a plan of escape. However, that was only to get Slipknot killed on purpose just so that Boomerang could see what the bombs actually did if they tried to cut and run.

There's literal business practice here. You have Marvel Execs who visit DC/WB movie sets and vice-versa. Doesn't have to always mean something shady. Sometimes people are just visiting friends. But with WB its so blatant: Joss Whedon get in trouble and everyone stepped away from him. WB steps in says, hey want to direct a Batgirl movie? He says, "Yeah." Then they say, "Er...we have a problem. We need you to finish someone else's movie. Its a team up movie like the one you did, so you'll be fine." Whedon's JL bleeds cash, he's not doing a Batgirl movie anymore. James Gunn gets in trouble, everyone steps away from him, WB goes, "Hey, you want to an "crazy people team up" movie? Its like that other "crazy people team up" movie you just did. You'll be fine." Now they've signed JJ Abrams for Superman. One look at what he did with Star Trek (Not even Star Wars)-- Star Trek...and you know this is a bad idea.
