Absolutely loved this video Giles - one of your very best. Laughed when you called the burial mound hump 5 lol. I wonder if the Bronze Age settlers ever called it that. "where are we burying this one lads?" "Hump 5." Totally agree with you about Midsummer too being tinged with a degree of sadness. While it is a great day that comes at the end of weeks of endless daylight one knows that from 21 June onwards the days will get shorter as the light starts to fade and the greenery dies back. Guess all any of us can do is enjoy it while we can.

Magical evening and somehow right to find others gathering to mark the solstice too. I always wonder if the barrows would have been kept chalky and white; a landmark for people and glowing pink in the sunset if the weather was right. Just a thought. As well as a friendly dog you also met a hawk and deer, so the vibes were definitely good!

Hi Giles, it looked like you had a wonderful evening with some very good people. Always a bonus. Maybe you could mod a uco fire trough to help resolve some of the issues that you've been experiencing. Definitely a cheaper alternative to a large bushbox. I think if you could reduce its height then you could still benefit from the reflective properties of your windshield but still keeping your fire contained. Just food for thought buddy 👍

Lovely sunset mate. Work has meant that I haven't been out much lately, (2 weeks off next month will remedy that!) so watching your film is always next best thing! Your films are always bovid-dung free, they're true to what you do, ... a guy out for a night in the woods without fancy-pants gear, and thankfully no off-grid cabin!😊 Great stuff mate.

A thoroughly enjoyable watch Giles. The sunset was truly stunning. Such a lovely location for it. A bit of a close call with the fire though! I've bought one of those folding BBQ's for future camp fires. They're quite cheap but a bit heavier than a steamer such as yours. That said, the weight is light enough for anyone of average fitness to carry on a trip. Thank you once again for bringing us along👍

You do great videos, Giles. Interesting about the barrows. That’s what I mean about the history you have over there. Looks like you had a good time. Midsummers eve will always mean a little more to me now. I like how you can just kind of hike around like that. Not so over here. You can hike along roads, which I’ve done, but you can’t just head out across country without the possibility of getting into trouble about trespassing, let alone camping without permission. Except for various types of parks, the land is pretty much privately owned around here. Out West, there is a lot more open land. Enjoyable, relaxing and informative. Thanks buddy. 😊 Cheers!

Another great video mate. For extra warmth on colder nights try using your empty pack as a footbox and maybe get a bigger folding fire pit. For winter try making a canvas bivy bag and get a wool liner. Look forward to the next adventure.

Thanks for another great video, Giles, and for sharing your solstice with us. I love sunsets and watching the sun go down. I think dusk and dawn are the most magical parts of the day. It's nice that it developed into a bit of an unexpected social event too. I remember once I went out in heavy snow and high winds to a local roundhouse in the woods. It was an epic journey in the blizzard, and when I arrived I sat down and got out my small sandwich and flask. After a bit I was surprised by a party of students turning up, with a lot of food and firewood. I watched as they started trying to get a fire together, and soon it became apparent that they didn't know how to start a fire, do it. Their wood was far too thick and chunky to catch a flame, so I stepped in and asked if anyone had a knife. Using someone's penknife I was able to split their sticks and logs finer so that it would catch the flame from the newspaper they'd brought along. They were all very appreciative, as was I of the food they gave me when it was cooked. It was a chance meeting at a very unlikely time, but we were all thankful that it worked the way it did. I see you've put up another new video, I can't wait to watch it. Always great to see your outings, Giles, thanks once again. Take care mate.

We’ve still got a long summer ahead yet, before another winter comes around…👍🏻 Personally, I don’t particularly like this time of year for wild camping, as it doesn’t get dark (or properly dark at all for that matter) until stupidly late, and then it’s light again by 3am! 😖 So not very conducive for a good nights rest out in the wild at all, certainly not for me at least.. My ideal is dark by 9pm, and then light again by 7am - that’s the ideal for me when wild camping. ⛺️

Hi Giles, hope you're well. That looked like a lovely Solstice wild camp. You were rewarded with a stunning sunset and some great footage of the Deer. A real shame about the fire damage, I guess it's always a bit of a risk having the fire so close. Is it worth reverting back to the larger UCO firebowl that you used to use as a way of keeping the fire a bit more contained? Hopefully you're able to come up with another solution for your groundsheet, I was wondering if a wax cotton bedsheet that's cut to size could work and maybe save you a bit of weight and bulk. A friend of mine recently made his own oilskin tarp with a cotton bedsheet and it worked rather well. Thanks as always for sharing Giles 👍

Thank you for a magical solstice sunset as I was unable to go anywhere at that time. Could you use another folding windshield to protect from the rolly logs? You could lay it on the ground and 'flop' it over the stopper log and not too heavy to carry? 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Boundless Voyage do an ultralight titanium Mini Grill that is mesh, it costs 19 quid, you could use it for some grilling and turn it into a fireguard at night, great video, not surprised it turned into a social, so many people been at the same place for the same reason.

For as long as I have been watching your video's I've never seen you carry enough water ;) Go find yourself a nice Pattern 1937 British military canteen at lest :) When I hike, depending on weather its one quart of water per 4 miles walked. Then at least two quarts for camping. After all you do use it up. Any ways, not sure how I missed this video, very nice.

I went camping with a buddy once and for some reason he wanted to put candles around the camp, unbeknown to me there was one right behind me and my favorite jacket caught on fire, runied, got it offi in quick fashion though😎.
