@@nickrustyson8124 I actually remember a LOT of television advertising for this movie when it came out. It definitely didn't perform at the box office, though. Made back about half its budget. I've seen it on TV a few times in the years since, but few and far between.

I didn't realize how busy Pesci was during the 90s. I liked 8 heads in a dufflebag too, the dream sequence where the heads start singing a parody of "Mr sandman" lives in my head eternally

I revisited that on HBO Max recently, the scene in 8 Heads where he threw that old lady out of the van and she turns into a Three Stooges-esque stunt dummy was the hardest I've laughed these past few months.

Saw this in the theater when I was a kid. It was the last movie showing at a local theater that was being closed down(same theater I saw “almost cult classics”, The Dream Team and Arachnophobia). So our family went to pay our last respects. I do think about this flick at least once a year and how it’s basically been lost to obscurity. I swear we must have had very similar childhoods.

If you were a kid of the 90s you'd have probably seen them all since they were usually on tv at least once a year. With time they get played less and less because new movies take priority. If an old movie wasn't successful it's gonna get less air time in the near future. Simple as that

Anyway in case this is about me saying Joe & I having similar childhoods I only mean so many of the films covered on this channel are not remembered by my peers. Such as The Super, The Dream Team, Who’s Harry Crumb, even Summer Rental. They were all big hits with my family, but if I bring these up to the average person around my age, they’ve never heard of them(at least in my anecdotal experience).

@@zubrhero5270 I mean we only had like 2-3 local channels less than 20% of population in my country had cable at the time. Via satellite you had lots of channels but almost all were German. That's where i saw most of the american shows and movies.

I may be the only person left who actually enjoyed 'Gone Fishing' for the ludicrousness it was. Scenes like at the restaurant always make me laugh. "That's it? Kirk I'm not a little kid you know? I can drink a full glass"

LOL, I own Gone Fishing on Blu ray, it has a charm, it's nice to watch a movie that's light hearted and not trying to push agendas or messages. Hollywood use to support fun movies.

You're certainly not the only person left who enjoyed "Gone Fishing". While they wouldn't call it a classic, or even necessarily pick it out for a rewatch, pretty much everyone I know that has seen it didn't actually regret the time spent watching it.

Gone Fishin was just silly slapstick, for better or worse.. But you could tell Pesci and Glover were having fun... It's a lesser "Grumpy Old Men", but still a fun little comedy. Certainly not worthy of any great praise, but innocent enough to not earn any scorn either.

Also check out Schits Creek. A wealthy family loss all their money and have to move into a motel in a small town the father bought for his son as a joke. it's really good.

Love The Super! I originally watched it with my Dad on HBO in the early 90s and more recently bought the Warner Archive DVD and an original copy on Laserdisc! I'm thinking at some point, you should definitely tackle the 1993 film Josh and S.A.M., a movie that was terribly mis-marketed and yet still resonates in a major cult following plus the score by Thomas Newman is readily available for streaming on Spotify and is quite enjoyable, especially on long drives.

Life With Mikey, talk about an Almost Cult Classic. That little girl gives a great performance. The only other thing I remember her in was a small part in the remake of Freaky Friday.

Idk what it was about Cable television in the late 90s/early 00s, but the fact I got to see this movie and VAGUELY retain memories of the car "losing weight" scene is awesome. I just have to Thank God for that era of TV. Where it wasn't about regurgitating the popular classic movies, but obscure and unpopular ones that the channel/network had the rights to show on a lazy Sunday afternoon or early mornings of a weekday.

Funny Farm and The Super: two movies I haven’t seen since I was a kid, can’t find on DVD, Blu-Ray or whatever the format is now, and never seen played on cable anymore. I was just thinking about this movie not to long ago. I just learned it’s based on some sort of true story, but the slumlord in real life just fixed up his apartment but not anybody else’s. That’s what happens when it’s a timed sentence and not until it’s all fixed, tenants complained it was just a vacation for him.

I definitely remember this film making the rounds on late afternoon HBO viewings during the mid 90's into the early 00's! Always made me laugh seeing Pesci deep into the urban trenches. Between his landlord character falling into the apartment beneath him, or his encounter with THE MILKMAN, to my all-time favorite sight gag.... THAT DAMN RAT! Love this film.

At least the poster of Spain shows him with money which is more fitting of a landlord like the movie portrays, but the sqaures with repeated faces behind of Pesci kills me everytime lol I love the few lines above the poster saying "If he already gave us problems in Home Alone and the Godfellas wait to see... Joe Pesci in..."

I have always enjoyed this movie. I rented it on VHS a few times over the years and was likely one of my first Netflix DVD rentals. Now, I get my fix here on YT. I watch it for Vincent Gardenia -- he had fantastic lines and he had the ideal persona for the role. "If you fix the plumbing, they put chicken bones down the toilet. If you fix the heat, they piss in the hot air ducts."
