Part of your "it" factor is that you are genuine in everything you do. You show the good the good, bad, and ugly of living full-time traveling. It's not all drinking coffee while sitting in a fluffy cloud watching rainbows and unicorns, life is hard sometimes. You are also far more engaging with your followers than any other YT creator that I have ever watched, and there are a lot of channels that I've watched over the years. Thank you for the time you spend creating entertaining content for us.

Two channels of off grid living that i watch just hired video editors to compile their weekly footage into weekly vids. It is a ton of work being a KZfaqr. Creating entertainment of any kind is a lot of work. Note: when you watch credits of a TV show, a movie, a sports event- there are a lot of people involved in making that show. Most of these people do it all by themselves. I totally appreciate the effort and content that the KZfaqrs put in to entertain us.

As a small RV KZfaqr, I can relate. One of the first things I did when I started my channel was buy your book! I don't live fulltime in my RV, and I don't need the income from ad revenue to live on. I just LOVE RVing!! And I LOVE working on my RVs. I was a stay at home Mom for 30 years with 5 kids. My husband was a police officer and my life revolved around my family. Now, with all my kids grown and moved out, and my hubby retired with a good pension, Now, it's ME TIME!! Don't get me wrong! I was passionate about being a SAHM and wife. I loved my life! But, now it just feels empty with the kids gone. So, my RVs have become my focus. Doing KZfaq has become my new passion. I love the process. It is hard work though. Not just the channel, but the projects I do on the RVs. I feel sometimes like it's not worth the effort to record it all and edit it, post it on the channel. And then I get these amazing comments from viewers who have been helped by a video or just entertained. They make my day! So, yeah, lots of work, lots of sweat and sometimes tears, but in the end I just can't give up. I'm growing and thrilled to see new subscribers. I'm just glad I'm not depending on it for a living, lol!

Some people (trolls) have a bravado and meanness in them when they can safely hide behind the anonymity of their keyboard. If they had to stand face-to-face with the person they're attacking, they'd NEVER say any of that; they'd look down at their shoes and say, "Thank you ma'am (or sir), would you like fries with that?" Of course, then you've got the 1 in 10,000 amongst that group who is actually dangerous. And you don't know which one that is. . . .

I’m late to the party but thank you for speaking about this. Yes, a job is an exchange of money for a product or service. And yes, people always tell me “don’t worry about editing” not understanding that if KZfaqrs didn’t edit their videos, there would be no KZfaq! (Vids would be unwatchable.) Lastly, I’ve found that the people bashing any type of entrepreneurial work I’ve done were people who weren’t happy in THEIR jobs and it seems their comments were out of jealousy. I could go on about this topic but I’ll stop there.

OMG, as a fledgling KZfaqr living out of my car trying to document that oh-so-glamorous car camping #carlife, I concur... this shizz is WAY harder than it looks, from spilling the coffee to finding a place to sleep to being chased by angry bees to dealing with lawn mowers in the background to realizing that everything you shot for the last three weeks with that one camera has crappy sound and now you've got to fix it in editing post-production somehow... this IS a job, and let me tell you... it does not pay well at all until you make it into the 0.001%... so as a creator you have to love it to be here, and those of you wonderful souls out there supporting Carolyn and other creators you love with kind comments and watch time and maybe even a coffee once in a while, you're the pure gold that keep us all going. So thank you for your positivity in an increasingly effed-up world, and Caroyln, I've been watching you for years-thank you for the inspiration to get out there and try this myself. Bravo and congrats to you on being one of the One Percent on KZfaq! And actually that stat you mentioned - over 35% of creators make 50K or more - isn't so bad IMO, that's over a third. One of the biggest challenges is exposing your private life to the world. It's one of the reasons I don't choose to do it, because I would not enjoy that exposure. It's a whole new category of fame. I admit I find myself chuckling inward when I hear people call themselves a "content creator" or "influencer" as a career. But I have come to the realization that it is a real thing now. You yourself have expressed frustration many times with the trolls. You have to be very confident in yourself in order to deal with the scrutiny/judgment/trolls.

I've thought about being a you tuber when I take off to the road next year, but I was honest with myself about it. I've attracted bullies and users all my life and have ended up with severe social anxiety. I know that would show through. I'm going to try to just live on my disability, and I think I can do that. I'm used to watching my pennies, and I plan to boondock most of the time. My power bills have become unmanageable so I'm going to give up renting a house. My son bought me my RV for the purpose. Thank you for sharing this, Carolyn!! I love Steve Wallis and it was so upsetting to know those 1% of the haters were making him want to shut down. I know you work hard to put out content!! Thank you for all your videos! Oh and I love that sweatshirt.. it's such a beautiful color on you!!

Hi! I really appreciate this message. Great information! I started my channel in February 2021 and I’ve learned a lot since then. I appreciate your candidness about all that it entails to be a content creator. So far, I’ve enjoyed it and agree that it is very time consuming but gratifying at the same time. I actually love editing! Never knew I would like it so much but I really enjoy cleaning up the videos and bringing it to a well rounded, finished product. I don’t live in my van but travel regularly in it, rock hunting the shores of the Great Lakes and Van camping a long the way. I really enjoy it. ❤ And you are right! I find that I have been unsubscribe from peoples channels and that people have been unsubscribed from mine! WHAT THE HECK!! 😠 It’s always good to look into that every now and again. Ticks me off!!! Thanks again for all this great information. Have a fabulous day! 😃💯🙌🏼

Excellent! Hopefully you're helping people count the cost before giving up their current lifestyle and finding out it's not working for them. I can see the work you put into the channel just from watching your content. Those who don't think it's a job should give it a try and see what they can do! 😆❤

Thank you for being so transparent and informative. Having made a 2hr documentary film I totally appreciate the effort that goes into your work. For a full fledge film it can easily be 4hrs editing for every minute of final footage. You rock!.

Carolyn, there are such crazies out there. After my son Chris suddenly passed in February 2021, we were in such a state of shock and disbelief. 99% of his many friends reached out to us and we would often sit with them and even laugh at their favorite stories and tales with Chris. Then I started getting the hang up calls, and after a while a woman would tell me on the phone, 'it is a lie, Chris is still alive'. Knocked my socks off. She even had the audacity to show up at our house and demand to see Chris. So stupid, she used to play words with friends with our son, and their algorithm would still add his name to challenges. It got so bad, my husband showed her a copy of his death certificate. That was the point where I lost it. I went outside and blew her to the moon and back. She took a few steps backwards, then, turned and left. I just sat there and cried uncontrollably. A neighbor came over and told us she had seen this woman's truck in front of our house often when she came home from work late at night. Yeah. People are not all sane and they do not care if they trample all over your feelings one little bit. Hugs to you and Sadie.

Love your videos! You help empower so many of us that have stepped outside the traditional box. Your “it” is your courage to challenge the Mainstream and I’m sure that draws the wrath of those who do not want to evolve and shift. The “you shoulds” are an echo of so many folks clinging to the safety of the “box”. There are more of us out here that are shouting “you’ve got this” at our screens while watching your videos. Thanks for being a courageous soul-sister!

Carolyn I've followed you for years, you are a very special and good person from what I see. I did four months of Van life but the cost of broken vehicles etc has me renting for the winter and re-evaluating where I want to go next on this life journey. I seriously thought of a youtube channel for the last month in which I was doing car camping after the vans broke down, but listening to you, with the trauma I've had and how sensitive I am, I feel I may just put my creativity elsewhere. Thanks again, I'll follow you down whatever road you take alongside you. Thanks for your intelligent and transparent vlog.

I agree Carolyn. As a viewer of numerous you tube channels; here are some of the things I find important; 1) the creator must be knowledgeable and passionate about their topic. 2) they must have a certain “energy” on camera. NOT chaotic energy, but a measured yet engaging rate of speech, modulation of voice and facial expression, and few verbal “tics”. It is far more engaging to listen to someone who speaks at a pleasant clip using an interestingly variant vocabulary and NOT having verbal tics such as “ummmm’s” and “ahhhh’s” or using the word “like”. Your delivery meets all of these criteria.!

This is one of your best! I have 5 channels ! (hobby) . I like being creative. I am reluctant to make my videos public because my skin isn't thick enough. Hard for me to keep my blood from boiling from haters . Meanwhile I enjoy watching many creators and have learned a lot from all of them about so many things!! . And I am sad about the ones who seemed to have dropped off the face of the earth with no explanation. I get it that it probably got to be too much for them but a farewell video would have been nice instead of leaving thousands of people hanging ,worrying ,assuming, and jumping to conclusions. When I get better at my private (family and friends only) videos maybe I'll start putting public ones out there. I have an awesome little garden in the desert. Just not ready for dealing with nasty people. Keep on plugging..

Great video. I’m a KZfaq creator with just about 7000 subscribers. And when I first started I had no idea about the amount of work that goes into creating content. It is a lot of work, however I really enjoy creating content about my lifestyle while inspiring others. I have not experienced the haters yet, but I know it will come. But I know I won’t allow others to stop me from doing what I grew to love.

Thank you for all your real beautiful work, this is visual content people consume while KZfaq makes money from the commercial content while paying the people that create the clicks that give KZfaq gives the opportunity to provide others the ability to reach out with their skills, and be paid.
