The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

@JaySinger not really the reason why they nicknamed five men the classic five because of their classic hit songs people in the early 60's came to know and love. Now in (1968) when Psychedelic Soul became So Popular The Time Of Ruffin's Departure And When Dennis Edwards Took The Stage The Classic Five Turned into The Psychedelic Five Because Of Dennis Edwards Voice And Wonderful Style Of Singing They Had Great Hits Like Cloud Nine, Runaway Child Running Wild, Psychedelic Shack, I Can't Get Next To You, Ball Of Confusion, Papa Was A Rolling Stone, And Just My Imagination, Being Eddie Kendrick Last Hit Song.

I am 68 and everytime I hear the Temps and Motown I start to cry. It brings back such great memories of junior high school and high school, dancing in the girls bathroom at recess and lunch time, smoking Cool menthol cigarettes. Thinking we are all that. 😂 Growing up by the beach in Santa Monica during the summer listening to all these wonderful songs. I can't explain the feeling it just takes me back forever. They just don't make music like this anymore. Pure class, showmanship and style with voices no one else will ever be able to reach...Long live Motown.. 💗

The Temps were the best group that has eva sang on this planet. Eddies Falsetto stands out and is unmistakable and Paul 's soulful voice with Melvin Baas made them the best. Otis was too heavy handed, and he divided them in my opinion. Eddie was unhappy with how Otis treated David and Paul. Paul's suicide killed something in Eddie - he didn't have issues with Melvin, Dennis or Damon. What other Motown group had as much turnover in its members?

There will never be another Eddie Kendricks in this life. The only person who has ever sang like or came to the closesest of sounding like Eddie Kendricks is my home guy, Baltimore's own, Damon Harris. This is a proven fact.

Super Job Otis Williams! The Temps are still one of the most imitated groups that made music for every occasion. Great natural individual talents came together to form super harmonies from the high to low vocal range that collided together. I remember when Dennis Edwards was a guest on a Christian network and the host asked about his early experiences in music and his early days with Motown and The Temptations. Dennis said Motown had experienced professional mentors that taught them how to behave. He said the Temps motto or code of ethics was something like this; the Temps were advices to;.. 1."Always THINK like a Temptation; 2.Always ACT like a Temptation; 3.Always DRESS like a Temptation; 4.Always BE a Temptation" Even today this still solid advice for the young Christian; 1.Always Think like a Christian; 2.Always Act like a Christian; 3.Always Dress like a Christian; 4.Always Be a Christian. Great video THANKS

You missed out the most important piece of advice Dennis was given by Otis which was: 5. Always REMEMBER, I own the copyright to the name, The Temptations. Dennis must have forgotten this advice (warning) because Otis sacked Dennis in 1977.

Remembering watching the Ed Sullivan Show and so excited when he had black artists on, in 7th heaven when Soul Train hit the airwaves on Saturdays.
