I was playing TF2 when i was 14, 08/09ish. I remember joining a clan of some older guys (20s maybe 30s) in Australia, and they were super kind and mentoring. They were protective of me to, getting on mic when some other unruly adults start saying things to me. I wish i still had the clan name, but thank you gentlemen for being the better part of my online gaming experience, and not have taken advantage of me. Just wanted to shout them out right quick.

a minor detail left out of this video is that geel advertised scrap tf constantly on the 4chan tf2g thread using a tripcode to identify himself. he also was a member of the tf2g irc channel and was not very well liked as he basically just advertised and occasionally gave away items without participating in discussion at all. when the footrest incident occurred, he immediately cut ties with 4chan and posted the infamous bait raffle. with the reputation 4chan has, it's pretty funny to me that he knew the footrest incident wouldnt go down well even there of all places.

I think it would be really cool if you did a video on a community for a game called The Isle. Since it's a game about dinosaurs it has a large amount of children playing it, And due to that the community has had a substantial amount of grooming, Corrupt/toxic Developers, and other disgusting acts happen within its community that I think would make a good video.

I'm glad a video about this is being made. This game's very near to me and I've been playing it for more than 10 years at this point (more than half of my life), the worst thing about the community in my opinion is shunning new players, gatekeeping and toxicity, and it was never always like this. There were periods in the late 2000s/early 2010s where it would still kind of flawed, but it was mostly wholesome. Mind you, its still currently not ALL bad, and I know there are genuine and wholesome areas of the TF2 community that are filled with cool people, but there is also so much BS, and noise you have to filter out before you can find it.

TF2 has been such an amazing game for me for over the last 10+ years, however during those many years you get to witness a lot of this first hand and in the community contributor space it used to be such a minefield of nasty people. Many of them have faded away into irrelevancy or just straight up left, but so many nasty people have doxed, harassed, and mocked other people for absolutely unhinged reasons. The biggest thing I still remember was the "Journey to the East" contest which was secretly a ploy by a clique of nasty community contribs to get them and their friends self made medals. Self made items and the money from the workshop pulled in some absolutely shitty people.

I loved this game ever since I've started playing in 2015 when I was 13 years old and was never aware that the community was this awful til 2 years later, I'll never forget my run in with a "steam admin" saying that my account was hacked/ my items were stolen, I fell for it and lost all my stuff but I crossed the line when they asked for my email, pics of me and pics of steam cards. I occasionally play with friends nowadays but that run in tainted my love for the game cause all I do nowadays is play on community servers and unbox for fun.

we had a guy in the aussie tf2 competitive scene called joshchap who was always acting pretty friendly with the younger players this in itself doesnt mean anything and no one ever thought anything of it because it just comes off as wanting to make new players feel comfortable but then he was caught trying to crack onto a 15 year old
