A lot if oeople seem to forget that Jo wasn't just a fall over and scream dolly bird. She rescued the Doctor on numerous occasions, and her character developed significantly, especially in her final season. She could stand up to The Master and earned the trust of Captain Hart in The Sea Devils when he relied on her to set him free. She was brilliant.

Jo was my favourite companion she was a beautiful girl when I was a kid I had a massive crush on her, and up until David Tennant Jon Pertwee was my Favourite Doctor I had seen the first and second but couldn't really relate to Bill Hartnells 1st creaky old Doctor or Troughtons clown ( I had much the same problem with Matt Smith) but the 3rd Doctor was trapped on Earth and made the threats seem more real some how I couldn't walk past a shop window with a dummy in it for ages and this Doctor would walk around saying he abhorred violence and then use his Venusian Karate and Aikido on people. Brilliant! Why doesn't the Doctor kick peoples head in anymore!

Yeah, that's true, and it's probably the thing I hate most about New Who. The Doctor shouldn't be afraid to get physical... and for the record, the 10th Doctor offering to help his enemies all the time was also really infuriating!
@dm613
@dm613 7 жыл бұрын
94830 086436: The Tenth Doctor always gave his enemies a chance and a choice, but not his friends. Look at what he did to Donna, in spite of her pleas to stay with him, even if she died. He took away her choice and violated her mind. That was the clearest example, and one of the saddest things I've ever seen on Doctor Who.
@julietfischer5056
@julietfischer5056 7 жыл бұрын
10 likely felt responsible for why she was dying. Other companions had died while with him: maybe this was the one time he could prevent it happening. Can we say we wouldn't do the same, no matter how much the other begged to be allowed to stay with us even though it meant dying within the next hour?

Jon's Doctor wouldn't work in the modern series at all. The companions have to be the ones who solve everything now, which is sad because it means the Doctor often has to be made to be an idiot. Look at "Day of the Doctor" where the solution is literally Doctor: I have to kill my own race to save the universe Clara: I know you're better than this, think of something else Doctor: Oh okay, I'll do something else
@mrbluesky4838
@mrbluesky4838 3 жыл бұрын
ThomasWilliamsMusic that’s an exaggeration, and you’re kind of taking that scene from day of the doctor out of context. The doctor isn’t perfect, Clara was reminding him of who he really is and why he wouldn’t choose genocide.

I’ve been working my way through all of Classic Who, and I watched The Green Death (Jo’s final story) earlier today. Something that I noticed was that Jo’s first scene with Cliff - her eventual husband - is almost exactly the same, beat for beat, as this scene. I just thought that was a nice little parallel - especially as, elsewhere in the story, she tells the Doctor that “he sort of reminds me of a younger you”.

I LOVE The Fact that it’s quite clearly The Brig’s Sense of Humour that he just SENT her up there to his lab to introduce herself to him, completely unprepared and without even warning him or telling him that she would be coming up, Who She Is, What She is Even Doing There, or Why. That’s him just enjoying a jolly good wheeze at The Doctor’s expense. That’s just his Scottish Sense of Humour - You see, he does actually HAVE on.... He just hides it very well, smothered over by layer upon layer of about 19 different types of Duty.

@OpticalFunkllusions I agree with you there, i've always likened the Tennant to Smith transformation as being very similar to Baker to Davison. An immensely popular Doctor is replaced by one who's just as good and brilliant as the last one. The great thing about Matt Smith is, he instantly got the part. He had a minute to hold the audiences attention at the end of End Of Time, and he got it perfectly right. As for Moffat's writing, very dark and mysterious, looove it :D
