Undoubtedly the most unsettling Who story of all.

My favorite 3rd Dr episode. I love how high up some of those shots were and how “uneasy” the tone always was.

This episode terrified me as a kid. Definitely one of the best DW episodes!

At 1:37, the Doctor mentions he heard that noise at the Krakatoa volcanic eruptions in 1883 probably in his first incarnation of the First Doctor, and yet in the Doctor Who revived series of the first episode of Rose, there's a drawing of the Ninth Doctor who had been in the Krakatoa volcanic eruptions as well in 1883. Now I'm assuming that in the Krakatoa volcanic eruptions in 1883, somewhere in that same timeline the First Doctor and the Ninth met in the same time zone of that same event that happened, although in Inferno, the Third doesn't mention that he was there in his first incarnation at the Krakatoa volcanic eruption in 1883, but the story in Inferno sounds very clear that in the Third's previous incarnation of the First Doctor, the First Doctor had been in the Krakatoa volcanic eruption in 1883. As for the Ninth Doctor drawn in the Krakatoa volcanic eruption in 1883 in Rose, I don't know if both the First and Ninth Doctors met in the Krakatoa volcanic eruption in 1883, (although the episode Rose doesn't mention that the First Doctor had been in the Krakatoa volcanic eruption in 1883), but I'm assuming that when the Ninth returned to the Krakatoa volcanic eruption in 1883 accidently by his Tardis, I am assuming that the Ninth met his other selve, the First Doctor at that same event happening in Krakatoa. Then again, who knows? But that's what I'm assuming. Anyway Inferno and Rose are both great stories.

Bombastic, self-important 21st century Who needs some of the understated, unnerving scores of PaleoWho.

One of the best most effective doctor Who stories ever made to date. The atmosphere is so thick you could slice a knife through it. The scenes in the parallel universe were this show at its best. Shame we can't have serials with this level of quality today!

The Primords have to one of the most underated monsters from the show.

Definitely Pertwee's best. His first year is a fantastic run of stories. All 4 are classics but Inferno has to have the top spot.

Its the creepiest story and these early mutated primords work much better than the full on Lon Chaney Halloween costume werewolf ones later on.

Love the creepy "music" they used in this one.

Funny, private Wyatt was also infected in the alternate universe and met the same end (albeit the alternate Wyatt was shot first)

This story IMO is why classic who is the best sci fi there is.

Seemed to use only three main soundtracks: The adventurous theme in the other universe, the horror music and the reflective ambient 1:15 music.

Will, in another thread, mentioned that Jon Pertwee was "the most political Doctor". I get this. My parents lived in Bristol during the 3 day week of the early 70s. Bristol is notoriously bad for phone reception, and so my parents got cable TV. When the picture was down, they could listen to Dr Who and Star Trek, even though there were no pictures. The budget was extremely small, but I think that Jon, Nicholas Courteney and Roger Delgado made the series because of their great acting. My parents, as you know, are no longer here, but I like to think of their listening to Dr Who, in their small flat on Jacobs Wells Road. x

Best Dr Who story ever!

Fun fact: Jon Pertwee was a bit uneasy when it came to heights and despite that he managed to do all of the scenes up high on the rigs and tankers for Inferno like a pro. He really gave his all in this role!

I love the Doctor's vampire cape, and the drool on the infected human. They need to put more drool in the new series.....it adds a nice touch. :-) Oh and I love it all if it's Doctor Who.

Amazing the tone they captured with this serial. A combination of the subdued 60s horror synth, the grainy washed out film, the slow and mature pacing and acting and direction. Dr. Who works so well when it's dark and mature. Unfortunately something we'll never see again since it doesn't have mass appeal.

Ms. Shaw was 1 Hot lady.. Just saying wonder what her situation was...
