The Longevity of Anand among the all time greats should be a case study in itself...... He is one of a kind🐯
@rg7535
@rg7535 10 ай бұрын
Okay I see you’re Indian, so you have a clear bias. Anand was world champion for 6 years. Lasker was WC for 27 years. Kasparov for pretty much 20 years. Magnus chose not to defend anymore after 10 years. He’s been #1 in the world for 141 consecutive months, which is a record. Anand has a fun style and we all like his personality, but his longevity is nothing special.

@@rg7535 kasparov is definitely much better case but I don't consider champions before 1950 much not because they were but because they choose their opponent. famously, alekhine didn't accept capablanca's rematch offer ever.

@@rg7535 Why would you be dismissive of longevity? Anand happens to be a champion that also did a college degree, has a family, has a life and still plays chess. For me personally this sustenance for life as well is chess is very special and something to look up to
@chinmaysurolia6241
@chinmaysurolia6241 10 ай бұрын
@@rg7535ok, I guess you are not an Indian and see a bit miffed at all the adulation the man gets. Magnus is GOAT agreed and Kasparov was a WC for 20 years agreed, but bringing Lasker into this is absurd. Also Vishy is a multiple time, multiple format world champion. Kasparov retired at 41, and now when he plays, gets marauded although one can say that he is no longer a pro. Vishy became the world rapid champion at 48. Is still capable of competing with the best in the world on an equal footing, is consistently in the top 10 and maintains great sanity. Also, the man had single handedly revolutionized the game in a whole nation. So might try and underplay it, but the longevity is indeed special comparable to that of Korchnoi.

Anand should have a Morphy head for this attack
@newil_yovac
@newil_yovac 10 ай бұрын
The call him "The Tiger of Madrass", he doesn't need a damn Morphy head! It's fun to put it on up and coming players and whatnot, but Anand is consistently a top 10 player almost 50, arguably one of the top five WORLD CHAMPIONS of all time, and has revolutionized the game for the largest country. He's a bit too important for the Morphy Head joke in my opinion

I remember growing up in India, we used to see Anand in the sports section of the newspaper every so often. I was not into chess at that time but had an interest in it because my home state had other grandmasters like S.S Ganguly, Dibyendu Baura etc. This is around 20 years ago, when both Sachin Tendulkar and Vishy Anand were were at their prime. One of them is retired for around 10 years now (after the longest career in international cricket of 24 years). The other is still beating the top guns in chess. One got the Bharat Ratna in 2013. I think it is high time the Tiger from Madras also got what is rightfully his.

In the subcontinent, Cricketers are gods. Other sports don't enough attention. Bangladesh had produced first GM (If I have to put it correctly, Niaz Morshed became GM by himself not his country produced) before India got one, but we are too far behind. Cricket has become 2nd religion in Bangladesh while football hit it's nadir. In chess, nothing happened at all.
