In light of Agadmator's 500k, I feel like this needs to be said: First, congratulations! Second, so many IMs and GMs criticize Agadmator and people who watch Agadmator because Antonio's FIDE rating is "low." They say he's an engine analyst. They say he isn't a good source from which to learn chess. They say his analysis misses lines that GM analysts recognize. They say a lot. THEY miss the point. This is a chess FAN channel. Many of us are not FIDE rated and never will be. We enjoy playing. We enjoy watching highlights of matches. We enjoy learning the history of the game. We're casual chess fans. I would have no clue who Mikhail Tal is without Agadmator (#tal). Sure, maybe if you aspire to become a titled FIDE player you're better off paying a professional coach than watching Agadmator. But as far as bringing chess to the mainstream, Agadmator has done more in a few years than most GMs and IMs will in their lifetimes combined. Antonio's passion for the game enthusiastically comes through in his analysis and it's contagious. Thanks to KZfaqrs like Agadmator and chessnetwork, my 7 year old wants to join his elementary school chess club next year. Also, I can't help but think that all those titled players complaining about Agadmator are just jealous; they spend their entire lives studying and playing, studying and playing. And here's Antonio, who'll probably make more money from chess than nearly all of them outside the top 50 in the world! Yeah, I guess that would suck. 😉😉😉 Thanks for entertaining us and increasing our vast knowledge, Antonio. And congratulations on your success!

I wholeheartedly agree with you. Antonio made me love chess, at the very same date last year, I was rated 1100 on Lichess, now I am 1800. It's not about who's the best qualified to talk about chess, to know about chess, it's who, by their passion, transmits you the desire and love for the beautiful game. Antonio did that, at least to me, but I know to a lot of people. Thanks to Antonio, I watch games, know the players, go to see live games (I was in the Paris Rapid and Blitz some months ago) and spend time in parks talking and playing with chess enthusiasts. I'll never be a GM, I am 30 years old, I am not good, but I don't give a single shit, I love the game and Antonio is the very reason I fell in love for the game a year ago, no one else, no ''big shots'' that pretend to know better than others. And for that, I'll always respect and thank Antonio.

I started playing chess about 2 years ago, when me and my friend were bored and found a chessboard. Being my cocky self, i assumed i world beat him. I knew how all the pieces moved( yet i had no idea about en passant) and i knew about the 4 move checkmate. I figured i was at an advantage. He crushed me so bad, i wanted a rematch. A few rematches later i still couldn't beat him. I was convinced on getting revenge and beating him at this game that i had no interest in. I searched chess on youtube, and the first channel i discovered was agadmator. I binged his videos a ton, and it amazed me how he analyzed chess games, showed theory and plans and of course some insane #tal sacrifices. He got me hooked. Since then, i have never looked back and branched out to other chess youtubers to keep improving. But i haven't strayed from my roots. I come back here as much as possible to watch agad who got me into this game to begin with. Im now 1800 on chess.com. The friend who beat me is about 900 on chess.com. I dont know where that would put me 2 years ago, maybe 700?
@MrEsMysteriesMagicks
@MrEsMysteriesMagicks 4 жыл бұрын
The Hair If you go by the United States Chess Federation algorithm (and FIDE is similar), constantly losing to a 900 player would rate you 500. Keep in mind, though, that chess websites use their own algorithms which tend to be a bit inflated from USCF ratings, maybe as much as 200-300 points. Having said that, such ratings are still quite valid within the website because everyone is evaluated the same. A jump from 500 to 1800 is quite an accomplishment! Well done!
@thehair9236
@thehair9236 4 жыл бұрын
@@MrEsMysteriesMagicks wow i didn't even think 500 was on the scale. To my relatively quick improvement: noobs have told me its easy, experienced players have said its impossible. They are both wrong. It is very hard but possible, but u will have to dedicate an insane amount of time to chess. Because it is something i learned to enjoy, i played it a ton. It was a tremendous struggle to hit 1200, but once i crossed that barrier, i slowly kept improving. I would go faster at some points and slower at others, but i never had a point where i simply couldn't improve. I put work in and saw results. Also: i spent $0 on chess. No coaches or anything. Tons of KZfaq and chess.com free limited analysis and a lot of games played. To break it down: I would say KZfaq is best for learning opening theory,(the chesswebsite KZfaq channel was a life saver) and postgame analysis(using free chess.com analysis) of ur games and just playing a lot of games is best way to improve ur chess skills. I started training tactics when i was around 1400, and it definitely helped me get better( im 2100 on tactics trainer). But i did not touch tactics early on, so i wouldn't necessarily recommend them for beginners

@@thehair9236 You're absolutely right about chess. One of the great things about chess websites and videos is that you no longer have to spend tons of money on books. Plus, the vids are often more comprehensive. For decades, I read that trying to hold onto the extra pawn as Black in the Queen's Gambit Accepted was a bad idea, but none of the books ever explained why or how to exploit it. Today, the are several YT vids that cover exactly that. Your response about a rating of 500 is reminiscent of Bobby Fischer. Once, after playing a simul, he asked his opponent's rating. When the answer was 1200, he said, "They go that low?" Theoretically, you could have a rating of 0 if you constantly lose to a 400 player, but in practical terms, around 800 or 900 is generally the floor.

1800 on chess.com is nice, I am sure many people would take longer. Its not just dedication however, i've noticed that it takes some talent too. Thats maybe why your friend is still on 900... I feel that I'm still improving after 4 years of playing, but its getting harder and harder to improve. I've recently beat a 1800 fide over the board, but it was just so incredibly difficult, like torture for 3,5 hours. I can't imagine what it would take to beat someone that is over 2000.

It's a #tal order, that next half a million subscribers but I'm rooting for you. I took up chess this year after having played sparingly throughout life. I made steady progress out of the basement of skill but then reached a ceiling where my opponents just knew stuff I didn't. To the KZfaq machine! I was happy to find this channel with it's lighthearted but very thorough analysis of curated classic games, including engine (stockfish) v. alien (alphazero) matches. Watching some other content about common book openings and even using an engine to cheat my way through some games, I was soon beating some very good opponents with my own unique alpha-tal inspired ideosyncracies. I'm still not very good, but I challenged my brother recently who had a 19-1 winning record against me and was able to checkmate him in the mid game. At some point I was playing 30 games a day and having dreams about chess, and when I don't play much, I'm sure to watch a game on this channel as my suggested videos are loaded with agadmator content. If you make 1000 more videos I'll probably end up watching most of them in my life. Keep it up! Also, I think it would be fun to play against you until I had a good game (you'll probably beat me every time), and then have the game analysis appear on your channel. One of your alphazero videos features a position that was only reached once by two players rated in the low 1000s and you remarked something along the lines that, "you never know when a game between any two players is actually a masterpiece!" In the rich history of chess that's an exciting thought.

I've watched like a couple hundred of your videos, but don't think I've ever commented. I liked your statement at the beginning. I enjoyed chess as a kid, but didn't really know anything until I was about 30, nearly 7 years ago. I'd fall for a scholar's mate no doubt, I really knew nothing. Now I've coached a high school chess team (I'm still not that good), and have got my chess.com rating up to about 1550 and slowly climbing. I feel like my understanding just continues to grow and I love using your channel as a learning tool to study some master games. I really loved the Morphy series and now am starting on all the Tal videos. Keep up the good stuff.
