I used the heck out a Buck 102 from 1969 to 1999. The blade was worn down and kind of on the thin side, so my wife surprised me with a new one in December of 1999. It's been my sole fixed blade and it's my hiking/camping/fishing knife with some use out back in the garden. The little woodsman has been as good as the Buck 301 stockman I used for almost as long, and only replaced it with a 303 cadet. I'm 73 now and retired in Georgetown Texas, and do a lot of fishing in my leisure time. The 102 woodsman's a great knife for the outdoors. I don't carry or use anything but a Buck knife. The new Bucks are 420hc with the Paul Boy heat treat. Great stuff!!!!

In addition to being family- owned, the Bible verse & references to God in the message Buck includes with their knives also emphasizes the inculcated family values which are a driving force of the Company in producing a quality product for their customers, who the Company considers as "family"...this knife can & has been used to skin deer & moose successfully...it can & has been able to do the same tasks as its bigger "brothers"...i.e., it also can & has been used for medium & light camp chores, for dressing small to medium game & to process fish of all types...the good thing about Buck is that their offerings are such that a customer can find a knife or knives which are ideal for hunting, fishing, camping or bush crafting....btw, & ayk, you can have that nice knife you found worked on & it will end up good as new...Thanks for the review!😊

Bought my 102 over 35 years ago back in 1987 when Buck was using the 425M steel. This grade of steel has held up magnificently over all these years, a very strong little knife that can be used for anything from peeling the skin off apples to completely taking the hide off and quartering out whitetail deer. The only thing I would change is a slightly thicker handle and a larger front blade guard. The handle is quite small and narrow which can get slippery and dangerous when your hands are wet or greasy. You can wrap the handle with black 3M Vetrap stretchy tape to help with this issue, a very cheap and effective fix. But overall, a classic knife that everyone should have in their collection.

Nice review 👍 I have just bought an ‘73-‘80 vintage 102 for the very same reason, to edc. I’m liking it, and agree with your comment about the handle. 🙂

I've had mine since the late 70's. I do't carry it much because I prefer folders. However, this is most likely what I'll carry when camping or just messing around in the yard and garden.

I kind of dig Buck knives myself, & this smaller size is a lot more practical for carry/use.

Its 420HC, I've had one for a few years now, and I got into Buck Knives back in the early 80's. Its not so much what the knife is made of, but how its cooked. Little knife is right. I shall use mine when I go fishing.

Loved your take on tea causing cancer in California lol. I lived there for 4 years and California is actually a cancer on the earth. I hope some of the decent folks left there can make changes or get out. When I read those Cali cancer warnings I usually say thank God we're not in Cali, we're safe. Of course it wouldn't be healthy to eat an electrical cord. SMH

Great review. I have a 119, and it is cool, but too big for practical carry. This is just right.

That Destroyed Buck can be revived if you put it on a grinder and work on it or send it to a blade smith. I worked on construction sites and found some courious relics amongs them a Destroyed Webley Revolver Frame and a Hunting knife with a totally massacred Blade. Apparently (from my guessing) the owner wanted to put Serrations on his blade and ended up destroying the poor knife in the process. I put that knife to a grinder and reprofiled the whole thing. I had to be careful not to mess up the temperature so the blade didnt get heated.Took a lot of the blade off but its now nice knife with a proper grind and edge on it. It now sits in my drawer every time I hear someone say that a knife once "Destroyed" cant be repaired and used again

Yeah, it looks like the knife this guy found was trying to do the opposite as well. Looks like he was trying to remove the serrations and butchered it in the process

Watch the blade length? What’s the handle legs? What’s the blade thickness?

I wonder if the Bible verse stuff that you like a lot less than their warranty info has anything to do with their integrity and desire to stand behind their products? 🤷🏼‍♂️

I mention to him in my comment that I am an atheist I mean to the point where I don't even believe in good luck...... But.... I also believe in tradition and I also stand behind free speech 100% and I think it's wonderful if they wanna put bible verses on their warranty cards. You start taking that kind of stuff away and it's all kind of trouble. Or if groups get offended in some way by something so nice. That's trouble also.

And on the 8th day God created the Buck 110 , 102, 117, 105, 119, 120(ghostface'es knife) ,125 , the glorious 650 (not the stupid tops version with the holes) amongst others. PS. You mentioned you didn't like the bible verse thing on the card? I may be an atheist but I am also a traditionalist and supporter of free speech. I think it's wonderful they're doing that. And I hope they keep on doing that.

I'm just someone who believes that religion and business getting mixed up harms both I am fully of the opinion that they can put whatever religious or ideological writings with or on their products I just happen to not be a fan.
