The maximum takeoff weight (MTOW), maximum gross takeoff weight (MGTOW), or maximum takeoff mass (MTOM) of an aircraft is the maximum weight at which the pilot may attempt to take off due to structural or other constraints. The equivalent word for rockets is gross lift-off mass, or GLOW. MTOW is commonly expressed in kilograms or pounds. The maximum take-off weight (MTOW) is the highest weight at which an aircraft has been demonstrated to meet all applicable airworthiness criteria. The MTOW of an aircraft is constant and does not change with altitude, air temperature, or the length of the runway used for takeoff or landing. The maximum allowed takeoff weight, or "regulated takeoff weight," varies depending on flap setting, altitude, air temperature, runway length, and other factors. It varies from takeoff to takeoff but cannot exceed the MTOW.
