I ‘literally’ just had to undertake this sort of research myself to purchase my first gun. I ended up buying a new Miroku ML11 as being able to inspect secondhand guys via photo’s and descriptions (opinions) was painful. Shock horror - I also hit some clays with the ML11 first time out as a Skeet beginner. Makes the $$ totally worth it. Cheers for video. ✌️

Glad to hear that my two shotguns are still in your top 10 list. CG Invictus and A400 Black (OK, not the multi-target). I’ve just got into rifle shooting, and would like to hear your comments on my new gun,. I chose a 2020 TIKKA Roughtech in 6.5 Creedmoor. I’ve yet to shoot it, ( still waiting for parts to mount a Steiner T5Xi scope).

Early in the last century and before, shooters broke a LOT of targets with guns that would now be considered completely unusable. Fashion and function are often two very different things. Dare to be different and you may be surprised at what actually works well (best?) for you.

I use my friends old SxS when trap shooting. I have several pump semi and a few not so practical 12 gauges. All are no longer than 18.5...I have more fun shooting out of the left side at single clays than dumping 13 rounds at watermelons....most of the time.

@Terminal Boy Exactly! And my bet would be that the "ancient" double fitted him better than new guns because it had more drop at the heel and comb. I don't know how people shoot some of the new O/Us that have stocks that look almost as straight as broomsticks. The other way to break more clays is to learn to shoot!

LOL yes! My wife and I watched a few old guys shoot trap. "Notice some of those guns are real expensive and they are still missing clays." Meanwhile I'm should a Twelvette with my dad's Model 50 in the safe. And I'm sure my grandfather's Model 11 that I have took a lot of birds.

@@aubreya2641 Funny, I have a Model 50, too. They are said to have required so much hand fitting that Winchester actually lost $ on each one they made. They weren't as popular as the A5 but mine has never failed. Tricky to clean though. Unfortunately I may never use it again. Getting old.

I don’t know if it’s much cheaper version of the Beretta A400 Multi-Target, but the Fabarm XLR5 Velocity AR. Also compared to the USA version Browning 725 Pro Sporting, again Fabarm ELOS N2 Allsport XL. For Beretta, the cheaper version or the DT or CG Invictus would be the 694. Yes there’s no upper locking bolt as the DT guns but it’s feel and handle great, and it’s fully rebuild able. I’m not a fan of Benelli, but there cheaper version is the Franchi Affinity 3 Sporting.

Are biodegradable clays used in the UK? Most US sporting clays and trap shooting courses are switching from traditional clay to biodegradable to clean up their fields. Many are also switching to lead free shot use to avoid costly lead remediation and the associated insurance costs.

Now there is cheaper alternatives to a Benelli. The Weatherby Element and I believe the CZ 1012 are inertia driven clones of the Benelli Montefeltro. They are Turkish made with less quality materials but the designs look almost identical. There is no substitute for a Benelli but these are great cheaper options for beginner shooters who aren't ready to spend the money for Italian made semi-auto shotguns.

I sold an "off brand" gun, a Breda 930I but when I was talking to dealers about part exing this gun I was told by one that they had no interest in it because it would sit on their shelf for ages and if it wasn't a Browning or Beretta then nobody would be interested! I know names like Longthorne, Holland and Holland etc aren't Browning or Beretta but people would be interested in them because they are £££££ and good guns. I was basically told to stick to Browning or Beretta for the money I was playing with (around 3k) my question is, is it worth taking a punt on a CG Invictus or should I stick to the main 2 brands hoping that resale will be better than a CG if and when I come to sell it?

All that matters is that the gun works, it’s reliable, it fits you and you can break clays with it. It is an absolute furphy that a big dollar shotgun will make you a better shooter. It’s mainly ego that makes people buy a new shotgun. You will shoot ok with it a few times (after all, you had a good round with that one you borrowed off a bloke at the Gun Club), but, when scores don’t improve, most will invariably go back to their old gun. Then you have to sell this “dud” you bought, more often than not at a loss. We’ve all done it. Get what works for you. A Ferrari doesn’t make you a better driver.

I own an "old model" Remington 3200 26" barrel skeet gun with Briley tube set for 20,28 gauge and .410. I'm not good enough to do all it will do, because I'm not a AA shooter in all gauges. I don't think I would trade for a barrel set, as I have custom choke inserts for the 28 gauge and .410 tubes. A good skeet shooter with the 20 gauge tubes installed, might as well use the stock to break cases of skeet birds, as he/she will do that with the gun. What more do you need?

With that said I do not care about status. I really like the looks of my 687EELLa my 687EL and my SV10. My 686 COVY QUAL dark blue with gold birds is great to look at. As an adult only went clay shooting for the first time the other day, we used a Miroku MK38 and I loved it. Might see if they have other loaners we can try when we go back just to see if a n00b can pick up any differences.

After a decent experience i think any semi-auto will do the job of breaking clays and putting meat on the table. I have shot side-by-sides, over- unders, pump actions, single shots and semi-autos. If you are on the practical side rather than a show-off, go for a semi-auto with hundreds of choices from the cheapest turkish semi-autos to the benellis, and yes TGS you are right there are no cheap alternatives for a benelli, and benellis are the best inertia driven semi-auto shotguns !

@@luixzzzz a good choice for shooting clays and for hunting, but let me warn you that it comes without a shim kit, so customizing the stock to fit your shooting will incur extra money spent on gunsmithing. Sx3 is less expensive and comes with a shim kit, also a second hand beretta will fall less than the prive tag of a new sx4 but it is still an impressive shotgun so the choice is yours if you wanna spend extra money (not a deal breaker) or take a gun out of the box and customize it yourself and shoot it.

toufic zaarour I already have an sx4 had it for over a year amazing for the money but like you said not as much customisation but I guess for an extra £600 thats what you get but beneli and Winchester both make good autos for the money

@@benjamindacunha6974 I was going to buy a benelli m2 as I fell for the branding....... After handling an M2 and an affinity side by side I genuinely felt the affinity handled nicer and was exactly the same build quality as the benelli (don't care what anyone else says) after that there was just no way I could part with over twice the price on a gun just because of the name on it........ Especially when the Affinity is made by benelli anyway 😉😉👍🏻

@@tgsoutdoors Loved the video, and I laughed out loud when I heard the Benelli comment at the end. Don't know what service is like in the UK (USA is 7 year for Franchi and 10 year for Benelli, and literally gets sent to the same place) but the new Affinity 3 and Affinity 3 elite models are much better than the older ones. I have sold dozens without issue. One of them even went to a guy who comes out regularly to shoot clays with 4 family members and they all share the one gun, something I never recommend haha. Benelli's are definitely in a league of their own, but in terms of the M2 we have all but stopped selling them unless a special order, in favor of the franchi elites. There really is no alternative for the SBE, Supersport, 828U, etc... If they are available in the UK at a reasonable price (M.A.P. in US for Affinity 3 elite -> $1099. Guessing UK price is £999 MAP but I don't know), highly recommend getting one in your shop and checking it out! We still sell some Montefeltros, but the standard Franchi Affinity 3s at $750-900 do eat up a lot of the montefeltro's at $1000-1200. Same design with cheaper parts/harsher finishing, I suppose making it a cheaper alternative. Older Franchis could be hit or miss, but the new ones seem to be quite great.

We are told here in the USA that the UK is so anti-gun its actually a bit of a mind f- to see this. But mt two cents... I love my Franchi Instinct L. Came in at $1k US and runs every bit as good as my fathers Silver Pidgeon. Avoid the Stevens 555e, my wife bought one in 16g and its not a great gun even at its price point

We’re not really anti-gun at all as you may think. However to buy a gun is wayyy harder over here than in the US. I love guns myself but to get my license I had to wait months and the police need to get involved and everything to make sure you know what you’re doing.

I would bet that theirs some Rem 1100 auto or 870 pump or Mossberg owners that can brake just as many clay targets as these high dollar gun shooters can and have a lot more money left in their pockets.
