I have received quite a few messages and comments over the years about the included, tactical pen, that is in my Airport Go Bag. I decided to make a follow up video going into more detail on, "Traveling With A Tactical Pen, Can I Bring It On A Plane?" Check It Out: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qciKlLZ80cjcYp8.html

Great video. Will keep this in mind since I will have to travel for a wedding soon. Word of caution I have done product testing for TCT (review on my channel) the dry bags were not completely waterproof (though definitely highly water resistant) and I do like its heavy pvc construction.

Hi. Great video. I have a pretty similar setup in my 'airport friendly' bag. Some of my own observations: I have only had a problem with a lighter once and that was with the good old TSA at Miami. After a 'discussion' they assured me that bic style lighters are fine, as are zippos, but what isn't fine is what I had, which was a turboflame lighter. Which they then took off me. When I asked why, they weren't real clear in their own minds what the problem with a turboflame lighter actually is as compared to a zippo, (although their general demeanour suggested that they were not accustomed to being challenged or being asked if they could get their supervisor). Subsequent research on the forums suggests that the problem is that the zippo doesn't burn particularly hot, wheras the turboflame could cut through the skin of an aircraft.... Personally I think this is bullshit, however I now carry a disposable bic lighter in my bag instead as 1) no-one seems to care about these and 2) if someone does confiscate it, it is no great loss. If you wrap the bic lighter with a couple of feet of duct tape it makes it easier to grip, gives it a bit of protection and is somewhere to store your duct tape without making it look as though you have a roll of it. I have had a 24ft length of paracord taken off me when on transit through Abu Dhabi. When I asked why, the lady told me that I could use it to tie someone up.... I was just about to point out to her that if I was that way inclined I could do this with my belt, bootlaces, my paracord bracelet, or my duct tape(!), however she had a look in her eye which said that I would be on the receiving end of a body cavity search if I opened my mouth, so I decided that discretion was the better part of valour on this one. Even less sense of humour than the TSA. I did once almost have a problem with my CAT tournequet at London Heathrow. The guy screening my bag got it out and started trying to work out how to deploy the windlass rod as a kubotan... I had to explain that it wasn't some sort of martial arts device (whilst wondering why he wasn't worried about the tactical pen and the tactical flashlight, both of which would do far more damage). I guess that there is no limit to the idocy of some people. I get why you have gone for Pure2Go filter, however personally I prefer to have my filter integrated into my bottle. That way everything drunk from it is automatically filtered without any further thought and I don't have to deploy something which looks like it is made for the trail/a disaster. www.gooutdoors.co.uk/15893289/water-to-go-75cl-water-bottle-15893289 It also means that if you chuck local ice into the bottle which is made from local (contaminated) water, you will get cold water, without risk from the ice. One other thing. The balistic plate is a great idea and I have one myself, however double check local laws on that. For example, body armour is illegal in Australia and if they spot it at customs, (which is admittantly unlikely as soft armour in the back of the pack looks like padding), you will at the very least find yourself on the next flight out, if not also on the receiving end of a substantual fine.

Good video, but if the TSA sees that your flashlight has a crenellated crown (it's a weapon!), you will not be able to carry it on. I carried one for years, but recently had it taken away. So I got another, cheaper one, and I've been carrying it for months. They haven't spotted it yet, but at least if they take this one away I'll only be out $20. And yeah, I travel twice a week for work.
@CoachHelder

Great info Chris and think you for sharing. I have yet to have anyone blink an eye at my flashlight or any of the components in my Airport Go bag. To be honest, I never thought that any of this stuff would fly when I first started traveling to the Middle East. Tons of layovers in foreign places, continual security check points, but as I said... never an issue. In the past 3 months, I have been to Portugal, Spain, Brasil & even Disney World. I didn't even get a second look from Mickey, let alone the security that went through my bag. ;-) All that they asked, after seeing my bag, was if I was carrying. Great call with buying the inexpensive light that will "do the job" while traveling. I have a similar philosophy with my folders. I keep the great stuff at home and carry a good, but in theory disposable, knife. I don't want to lose any of my blades but... Take my $50 one, not my $300 edc. There are always exceptions, Chris. Especially if the TSA agent wants your gear for themselves. We can save that for a different discussion... Good luck and thanks again for taking the time to share your experience; That's how we all learn together. Safe travels, my friend! -Hg

I do not know where you are travelling but many of those items could put you in trouble in some airports. Got an issue with a tactical pen that is not looking half as agressive as the one you carry. And that big chunky carabineer will for sure not go through in many airports in Europe.

Hello Butane and thanks for taking the time to comment. In the last 12 months I have been to the follow countries, at least once, and utilized various airports once in-country: Portugal U.A.E. Spain Mexico Germany Brazil France Austria I haven't had any issues. I certainly don't know why anyone would have an issue with a carabiner. Half of the people flying in, to backpack through Europe, have at least one affixed to their gear/pack. Thanks again, -Hg

@@CoachHelder I'm pretty sure it's been sealed plastic transparent cutlery on most outgoing flights from the UK for the last couple of years... depends on the airline you're traveling with I guess
@Miclantechupi
@Miclantechupi 4 жыл бұрын
@@sera404 Depends on the class in which you are travelling and how many points you have/whether you go in the business lounge before flying. Cattle Class is plastic only, but anything above that is still metal cutlery. It has to be said that the knives are rounded point, but I assure you that one could do far more damage with a Club Class knife than a titanium spork. Also a metal fork can be hand bent into a really nasty knuckleduster/improvised weapon... The Business Class lounge kitchen has a ready supply of traditional sharp implements so, let's face it, if you had serious intent, you wouldn't be using a spork. Also, knitting needles are fine onboard flights.. Let that sink in for a minute when you are having your spork confiscated. For clarification on this see "Security Theatre" and "Bruce Schneider" in respect of supposed airport security.

If you really want to know my thoughts on your 10 items to pack in an airport go bag here they are: Bag - not really an item that goes into your bag, but I understand what you are saying. Water purifier - good call. But don’t you also need one or two empty bottles to fill once you get past security. Flashlight -good call. Tactical? If that’s what floats your boat. Body armor -okay, it is scary out there. But I’m wondering if that little bit is going to be of any real use. Pen - good call. I carry numerous writing tools, as well as something to write on. Tactical? Two points: 1) I’m usually more worried about writing myself notes, and filling out the declarations form (and in my younger days getting that hot girl’s phone number). 2) If I feel the need for a tactical pen, I won’t be carrying it in my bag. It will be in my shirt or coat pocket. Paracord - good call. But you are going to need something to cut it with, and for that I generally carry some bandage scissors. Dry Bag - I carry several zip lock bags (at least one 2 gallon size) that do the same thing as a dry bag, are much less expensive and much more compact than what you showed us. And they are disposable if they get really nasty. Spork - good call. Electrical tape - completely worthless, especially compared to duct tape. I rewrap about 10 yds onto an old credit card, or business card, and it has never been a problem. Ferro rod - completely worthless. What do you think will happen to you if you try to start a fire in an airport or on a plane? I’m thinking jail time. That would really ruin your trip; and as you’ve seen, set you up for snarky comments like mine (thanks for that by the way). What are you missing in the top 10, you ask? A small med kit that includes hand wipes, lens wipes, Blistex, a couple of band aids, and your pain medication of choice. I choose Aleve. Works on headaches and sore muscles. A small toiletry kit that includes a disposable travel toothbrush or two, more hand wipes, butt wipes, and decent toilet paper - I use a compact roll made for campers. If the trip is long I might include some sports wipes and a micro-towel. Snacks - I usually carry a few tasty granola bars and two travel size bottles of Jack Daniels. Sometimes, some homemade cookies. All are good to share and make friends with. And finally, some kind of entertainment. Book, kindle, crossword puzzles, Sudoku puzzles, phone, whatever suits your fancy. What say you?

See... Now that's a lot of information that adds to this conversation and will help all of us think a bit more about our needs. I thank you for that! Now, just to clear this up a bit... My Airport Go Bag, as referenced in my article, is constantly with me once I get to my destination. Considering the information that I gathered while traveling to various continents on a yearly basis... these are the items that work best for me while traveling through numerous security check points- Both inside and outside of airports. As I explained in the article, once I got my duct tape confiscated by TSA, with some added scrutiny, I chose to ditch it and replace it with electrical tape. Now.. unless you enjoy being subjected to BS... Why try it again? I have enough "questionable" items in my kit. Why give them reason for a 2nd look? Electrical tape doesn't have as many applications as duct tape but it has served me well and goes through countless security check points with no question... After traveling for 24 hours, I don't need any further headaches from some security officer with a grudge.. As far as a ziplock bag vs. a dry bag... Now, I'm a big fan of ziplock bags; they have their purpose. But if you trust your $500+ cell phone or other electronic devices, to remain waterproof in a ziplock bag, then more power to you! I will stick with my $5 vinyl Dry-bag for my electronic gadgets.. As I mentioned in my article, i also store dirty laundry in my dry bag in a pinch. Try that with a ziplock, on a multi-hour flight with some stinky socks from the previous layover... or cheese that you just purchased in Paris, sitting underneath the seat in front of you for 12 hours. You certainly won't win any popularity contests and you will bring plenty of attention to yourself which is the opposite of my desire. Toiletry & med kits are great additions. I actually keep a few of those items in my airport go bag that are specific to my lifestyle. Fortunately, when I travel internationally, those toiletry, sewing & even first aid kits are part of the travel package and are waiting for me on my seat when I arrive. Being the "thrifty" person that I am.. when I get to my seat on the plane, I stuff those complimentary airline kits in my bag and search for any others that may not be in use... and I snatch those up to. ;-) I have my Macbook loaded with entertainment and I also have on on-demand entertainment center on all of my international flights, they are standard even in economy class. I tend to have 2-3 glasses of red wine and pass out for the duration while watching the latest "block buster" movie.. I carry a few nutrition bars on me but complimentary food on international flights has definitely stepped up a few notches. And my ferro rod? Yup... Just about my only guaranteed option for fire-building, in an emergency, that will go through all of my security check-points.. No, not just at the airport. Keep in mine that I mentioned my "Top 10 Items", not All the items in my airport go-bag. You definitely added some great thoughts and resources; Thank you for taking the time to comment! -Hg

@@CoachHelder Thanks for the reply! My experiences predate this video, (I even worked at an airport 2014-2016) which is the only reason I said anything.
