the toxic side of social media | is it time to declutter this out of our lives?

It has taken over the world. It has consumed so many of our lives and so much time spent listening and consuming content that is often times the very opposite of reality. Join me today as I go through a few areas where social media can be very toxic for our wellbeing.
The majority of my videos are very much minimalism based, but this is very much connected to minimalism to me. Letting go and simplifying our lives can go much deeper than the physical things within our homes. Maybe it is social media we need to declutter.

As always, thank you for being here. Sending all my love and light. Until next time, ~Katie🕊️

The last two weeks I have been getting off all screens an hour before bed. I get my pjs on, brush my teeth, empty the dishwasher and give the kitchen one last check, and get in bed and read a real book. It has made such a difference in my sleep. I actually look forward to that time of day now.

I enjoy having my phone around during situations I’m forced to be at but dont want to be at. Example during the holidays when I’m forced to spend time with family, I glue myself to my phone to get through I’m the day. (I don’t like my family so having my phone during these times helps my sanity) But all other times, I stay off it and enjoy my life.

Also in case you don’t know, for the gas pump if you push the buttons on the side of the screen/tv one of them will turn off the sound.

Absolutely agree with everything you have said. We were simply not designed to live this way, to consume so much information and noise. It's sad really, it can be hard to escape it.

deleted what i thought was all social media in june last year. over time, due to my still heavy usage, now consider youtube, reddit and even mumsnet or dating websites, to be social media. so for me, personally, im still on it, abielt in a different way. im on among us (a game) again. and it fires me up in a way, emotionally, i dont like. i love KZfaq so much for extreme minimalism, it makes me think and excited and challenged. however, it triggers my ocd to make me watch child abuse cases (dont worry if you dont understand). and i then step away from KZfaq feeling disturbed. same with Netflix (even SVU) or Disney+, although i love marvel and for my son, bluey very much. social media is only a part of the problem.

I think it is all about listening to how we feel when we get off of whatever content we are consuming!

Im so glad people are talking about this! I have gotten away from doom scrolling for the most part and now try to spend my time creating content I'm passionate about and spend more time on my youtube rather than other social media accounts. I find making content on youtube and staying in my little corner definitely helps me!

Thank you for your message. I strongly agree with all that you had to say. I have stepped away from most of social media, but I often find myself scrolling KZfaq for something to distract myself when I am in a lot of pain. I also watch a few minimalist channels like your own to give me ideas on how I can create a more sustainable lifestyle as someone who is elderly and handicapped and suffers from chronic pain. I also appreciate having someone like yourself speaking to me because I have very little human interactions due to my disabilities and distance from family and inability to get out and enjoy real friendships.

I am the same way. I often hear KZfaq being referred to as the slow version of social media as opposed to the fast version like instagram/tiktok etc. Your attention span has to be longer and I find the KZfaq channels I watch to be full of positivity. 🤍 Thank you for being here.

I’m so proud of myself I have spent the last few days doing a major declutter (I filled a whole room with my unwanted items!! Almost floor to ceiling lol) I can’t believe how much easier it is to manage my day now! I only have the bathroom left to do. I listen to these vids whilst I’m doing it 🥰

We are a family of 6 and are about to cancel our wifi. I keep getting "warnings" haha. I'm headed to the thrift store today to gather some DVDs. I don't want my family to suffer too much in the transition. Our kids are ages 9,7,3,1. The 9 year old is pretty good now but covid was bad for him as we only got wifi and tablets because the school required it. What a big bad change that was! Our 7 year old is addicted bad and I'm so over the power struggle. It seems crazy that I PAY hundreds of dollars to even have this power struggle dynamic in our home! The toddler is also quite grabby with phones and her behavior can be touch and go when she's been watching youtube. We are homeschooling now and I'm hoping to transition to reading books. They are still unable to enjoy reading a long story independently and with the bedtime routine with a baby and toddler they have been given tablets. I pray that we all are surprised with how easy it was to adjust to no wifi. I've been unplugging the modem frequently but they have caught on lol We will still have some data on our phones which now has passwords. No land line phone. Still need maps and banking and fb groups for local homeschool co-op and youtube to follow certain channels about homesteading and fixing things. I worry about the radiation though.
