In India there are quite a bit of success stories but, generally the woman leaves the film industry for family and sometimes comes back for some smaller roles. But, if both parents prioritize work there is a good chance their relationship will gradually fail. You can look at Hollywood highest Divorce rate 62%. There's a video of his called Women actresses who left the industry and where are they now. Most of them happily at home with family.

Didn’t appreciate the casual glossing over the violence of Dilip Kumar actually slapping M hard on set, or the gaslighting of a very controlling father by stating ‘that’s why he kept her at home’ ( because of the hole in her heart) or even the fact that Kishore K essentially abandoned her, emotionally, during the worst phase of her life. Felt a bit misogynistic. As a 55 year old Indian woman it’s irked and broke my heart. RIP M

Most female stars of that era have such tragic stories. Meena Kumari, Geeta Dutt and and many more come to mind. Reel life of tragic female characters often mirrored real life.

I really don't know who's life was more of tragedy, Madhubala or Minakumari. Because both came to films under similar age and same circumstances, and both died lonely and painfully. But what surprised me is that shitty Kamal Amrohi also tried to woo Madhubala while he was already destroying the life of Mina Kumari. I think there should be biopics on both the legendary actresses.
