The other day we were watching the local CSX train work outside of Winder, GA and the engineer noticed we were riding along and watching. Saw my 2 year old in her car seat, waved at her and blew the horn a few times. Made all of our day. Those little extra steps are awesome, and I'm 34 lol

I drive electric units in Auckland, New Zealand. I always make sure to give a wave and a toot when I see people waving. Sometimes I’m lucky to see their reaction. I think it makes both of our days.

That’s so nice of you to do that!🥰It’s the little things that matter!

@@TamsPlace Your welcome. One instructor I had during driver training said we should always wave. It might entice young kids to join the rail industry. One day at Glen Eden station in Auckland, I saw a mum and her daughter, who I would say was about 6, obviously waiting for my train and for her dad to get off the train. I waved to them as I was stopping. Her face lit up with a tremendous smile and I heard her say “he waved”. You can’t buy moments like that.

This makes my heart leap with happy memories. I'm 79 and my grandpa worked for railroad. We used to go down to the train yards to see the black locomotives come in. He lived on a farm with trains going under a big wooden bridge by his front drive. We as children would stand on the bridge and trains would go under us chugging and blowing that steam whistle. These children must feel that same thrill when the trains go by...especially proud that daddy is conductor,/ engineer. I love it!! 🚂💕

My grandad did the same with me...but i lost that curiosity and eagerness because I grew up too soon. My unpredictable and peripatethic childhood made me grow up too soon. To this grandpa in this video if anything were to happen to his parents don't leave him alone. Take him to those train tracks no matter how old he grows because childhood is a short period what he remembers during those moments will be remembered for long.

My dad was a C&O engineer. My mother and I would drop him off at the railyard dispatchers office then head out to a crossing to watch his train. As he passed by, he'd throw out the window a fusee with a ten dollar bill wrapped around it and we'd go to McDonald's for lunch. My fondest memory of my dad was the day he took me for a ride and let me blow the horn! Now I'm 72 and still stop for every train I see. And when I hear a horn in the distance, I like to think it's my dad saying, "Hello".
