Another interesting show gents! I can't add much except for a little Russian Decapod history. Now I've never seen a picture of any of the Russian Decapods (Railroaders called them "Bolsheviks!") in American service with those fence-like railings along the side of the locomotives, but as contract-built for the Russian Imperial Railway those railings would have been standard, and there was a good reason for them. The Russians liked those railings as a safety feature in case the walkways were slick with snow and especially ice, just about all Russian locomotives had them. It made sense for them. Whether the Philadelphia & Reading decapods had them and later removed them I have no idea. Looking forward to the next installment!

Very interesting breakdown on 2023 big book catalog! Plenty of high end train sets to choose from. YES indeed now very expensive! My thinking Lionel with current run away economic inflation could experience steep decline in sales . Signs of the economy slowing down have begun. I too am into model railroading as a hobby. Forced to limit spending even further!

Hi Guys I have a question: the new Dreyfus Hudson’s without the full shrouding appear to have firebox glow if you zoom in on the pictures. But it is not listed in the features. Is that a mistake in the catalog? Or will it have firebox glow?

I am spoiled by having cabooses with a detailed interior I will not pay $150 for a Lionel Caboose that is empty with just frosted windows up. Does not pass especially at that price.

When I was a kid during the 1970s a plastic MPC Lionel train car was $8 my wages at my kids job was $2 an hour. For $2 I could buy a lifelike train car in HO scale. If I worked 4 hours I could buy the American-made Lionel train car. Today the minimum wage is $8 an hour and if I work 4 hours I would make $32 while a chinese-made Lionel car is $100. Instead of working 4 hours to buy an American-made Lionel car now you have to work 12 hours to buy one made in China what is up with that? The devaluation of the dollar is because of the deficit spending to pay for the welfare Warfare state which has blood sucked the life out of this country. When Americans made Lionel Train either in New Jersey or in Chesterfield Michigan they were proportionally cheaper than the products the company makes now in China why is it so expensive? Corporate greed no more no less. They're also far last quality control issues under MPC than when Lionel became a separate company. You buy a $2,700 locomotive from Lionel you expected to be perfect right out of the box and they're not. Details missing or broken off in shipping as well as faulty Electronics. Train used to be nice and simple and you can work on them yourself a little bit you had to do now you have to have a master's degree in engineering and electronics in order to be able to troubleshoot one. The same type of person is in Lionel trains as in Harley-Davidson motorcycles postepay a ridiculously high price 4 name on a box or sticker on a gas tank unfortunately the quality does not match the high price. Just like today's motorcycles they have Electronics from stem to stern that you have to pay for whether you want them or not you are not given a choice in the matter. The new Lionel catalog it's like the new Harley lineup old product nothing new new paint and much higher prices. The same crowd that brags about how much money they spent on their Harley are the same people that brag about how much they spent on a Lionel top-of-the-line locomotive. Of course when they're brand new Harley spend half his time in the shop they make excuses for it and when they have to send their brand-new Lionel Vision big boy back to the company service cuz they will not let dealer service their product anymore shipping at your cost of course people make excuses for poor quality control issues. Harley-Davidson doesn't give a rat's ass about its customers the same way Lionel treat customers with poor customer service. When you pay top dollar price for either you expect a top-dollar product for your money and you expect great customer service if you need it. I bought a weaver Alco 628 in Santa Fe and the circuit board went and I sent it to them to get it fixed under warranty. Bob Weaver called me up and said Frank we haven't made this locomotive in 20 years. Because I am an operator they put a heavy-duty circuit board in it and shipped it home to me for free. They also sent a shipping label so I could sent it to them for free. That is customer service. I sent my brand-new railking turbine back to MTH for repairs even though it was brand-new it was out of warranty and they wanted more to fix the locomotive than what I paid for the whole train set then they wanted me to pay to ship it back to me if I want to get and I told them toss it in the garbage. Such a difference in customer service. I wish someone had taken over and continued Bob Weaver's line of American-made train. Mike's train house for the molds to make c628 Alco so at least the engine is still around even if it's now made in China. In the old days on your Lionel or American Flyer layout everything was American made. Nowadays on your layout everything is made in China. Sad State of Affairs

Dreyfus has been around various forms for years same thing nothing new different paint higher prices Lionel keep jacking up the prices to see how high they can get them up to to where even the Fanboys and not afford them.

Screwed Lionel catalog by classic toy trains and look at the ads that they have and you'll find very much more reasonable prices just like you don't have to be a multi-millionaire to enjoy riding a motorcycle you don't have to be a multi-millionaire to enjoy toy trains.

3 reefer cars for $500 just because one has sound effects is totally absurd. All the sound FX catch cacophonous after a while and get turned off trains make enough noise just running down the track they don't need to make more

too expensive.
