In this free video drum lesson, I want to teach you the little drum fill section at the end of "The Trooper" by Iron Maiden, featuring the drumming of Nicko McBrain.
This has been requested over on my Facebook page many times before, so really wanted to do something for everyone. I thought teaching you how to play that cool drum section at the end of the song would be a nice choice.
This section is also very similar to the intro so can be used there as well. It features the Fa-De-La-Dump lick I like so much and lots of tom tom action!

I just discovered this and I appreciate the pace in which you break it down. Too many tutorials go through so fast. Your thorough explanation of each bar helped me memorize it. Now I just have to work in the speed.

Very well explained, those parts! i have decided to try to knock this out as only 1 very good drummer where i play monthly (Jam session) can do this song, and guitar players absolutely love this tune, (i wonder why - not really) and i want to surprise him, so i picked your video to start with because of how you explained one of the Hendrix tunes. i can nail that tune now. I like your humility!

This lick, " Fa-De-La-Dump", is called "Bucket-o- Fish" by Glen Sobel. Now you will laugh a bit inside every time you play it.

And by a lot of other drummers as well...always felt a bit childish to me...so describe the sound with the syllables instead. Less childish sounding? Probably not! :D

His lesson on it was the first time I had heard it called that. It is really easy to keep it in mind and easy to say fast. I guess I am childish because I do smile a bit every time I play the lick. But playing drums is supposed to be fun right? Thanks for the lesson as always, and thanks for leaving the practice in at the end! I'd love to hear you play it with the song.

But except, you don't have the scar on your forehead. A long time ago, I fell down the stairs and banged my head on a plank of wood, and had to go to hospital because I broke my arm, and I ended up with a cut on my forehead, just like Harry Potter.
