So the "dragon" in the legend could just very well be a metaphor for the river running in between the two peaks. The fact that people have been seeing Farosh's shadow could easily be a coincidence.

That’s what I was thinking. Judging by the landscape, the mountain range rose almost directly perpendicular to the river, and the river just. eroded its way through.
@mrcombustiblelemon2902

Doubt it could carve the mountain from above, but it might've been some sort of a makhtesh - with the river carving a small pass under the mountain, and the top collapsing into it after enough of the base got eroded. Maybe in this case it didn't collapse in a circle shape because the shrines' foundations kept the halves of the mountain intact
@DarkPuck
@DarkPuck 4 жыл бұрын
@@mrcombustiblelemon2902 I'm sure it could, if the range was rising at the same time that the river was eroding. The split between the duelling peaks reminds me of the grand canyon and the colorado river in a way, on a micro scale. The two halves don't fit perfectly together, and the river may have been much larger in the past.

one theory I got is that the mountain was sitting on the edges of two tectonic plates, and it happened to shift just right to keep most of the two mountain halves intact. weather some earth elemental dragon shaped it or some other Arcana ex Machina shenanigan's is beyond me. Wait... this would all explain why they're *really* called the Dueling Peaks. Not because of the landscape, but the origins. A dragon fight, or duel, cause the formation of the peaks.
@Axel181
@Axel181 4 жыл бұрын
Dragons tend to be territorial. Its entirely possible a Dragon or two wanted the mountain, but already a Dragon had already claimed territory, and a battle ensued. Given the ample space between the two peaks, the mountain likely split due to the dragons crashing into it from above, or they tackled both sides of the mountain and caused a chain reaction that split the mountain apart. Who won is largely irrelevant, as those Dragons are dead anyways. Its interesting to note there aren't any Dragon bones near Dueling Peaks. The Dragons, seeing the split peak, possibly decided to just move elsewhere, as the split mountain likely made it impossible to properly claim the territory, without having to defend both peaks at once from other Dragons/Beasts.
@theniub
@theniub 4 жыл бұрын
My theory, which would make the most sense. The dragon on Ebom mountain was posessed by malice. This means that ganon controlled it to move through the mountain and reach Ebon mountain. The tragectory from duel peaks to Ebon mountain is a STRAIGHT LINE. This proves my theory, which involves the game's dialogue, so it's undenyable. Two dragons fighting is just ridiculous, unless one of them was being controlled by malice.
@goggles8691
@goggles8691 4 жыл бұрын
@@theniub I'm going to assume that this is a joke because an entire none of it makes sense. But in the worst timeline where it isn't a joke, here's why it's a joke. The dragon who got possessed was Naydra, who was at the top of Mount lanayru, which isn't a straight shot, at all. To be fair, Ebon mountain is basically a straight shot, but there is no dragon. Secondly, Naydra clearly just got hit by malice 100 years ago, since there still is malice while there is no malice in the memories. Furthermore, the shrines from 10000 years ago are built in the split, so it has to predate that. Finally, the only thing that actually works is it not being a dragon fight, but a dragon fight is still very possible in general since dragons outside of the deity dragons are shown to both exist and be territorial, so if there were more dragons, a fight like this would happen at least a couple of times, and there is more evidence for more dragons than no dragons

My theory differs, there's a river running through the mountain that looks natural and in no way artificial, there are other rivers that connect to it perfectly which means that it's either the dragon story was a legend or it was split a reeeaaallly long time ago to the point that nature made the unusual formation natural and flowing water was there maybe after. Perhaps the ancient dragons or leviathans may have ruled over the land after all!
@BeckyNosferatu
@BeckyNosferatu 4 жыл бұрын
In Japanese culture, dragons were seen as mostly river spirits. That said, it could have been the river itself that "split" the mountain. That is to say, water flowed and carved through. That would explain the 'dragon.'
@hedgehog3180
@hedgehog3180 Жыл бұрын
Well if it's more than 10.000 years ago then that's definitely enough time for a river system to form naturally. Most of the landscape and rivers you see in Northern Europe is for example only about 20.000 years ago since that's when the glaciers there retreated, later declines of ice sheets in Antarctica about 14kya is then what created the familiar coast lines we see today. So assuming this had already happened long ago during the technological golden age, say a few thousand years before it, there has absolutely been enough time for river systems to form. Flowing water changes landscapes really quickly, we mostly don't notice it but occasionally it can be so quickly it is noticeable on a human time scale. A good example of that is Northern Jutland, it used to be connected to the rest of Jutland but a flood in 1825 cut it off permanently and now it's technically an island but people don't really think of it as such because the change is simply too recent for us.

I was wondering... throughout Hyrule in BotW we see big trees that are either cut down or completely destroyed. Could they have been past deku trees? We've seen different deku trees throughout the series. And in OoT we see the deku tree sprout... sprout. So what if the down trees in BotW are deku trees? But in OoT the sprout is right next to the dead father. But in real life. like for example an apple tree. The apple falls a deer it's it and puts the seed somewhere else. AND. In BotW the deku tree seems to have cherry blossoms. So? Or they could just be really big trees.

I think the deku tree doesn't 'reincarnate' very often. Trees have long life spans that can span to multiple centuries, and given that the deku tree is a little more... special, it could be that he can live for thousands of years. In wind waker, the deku tree was pretty big, but also wasn't quite as big as his father in oot, and that was after about a century, right? And the deku tree in botw seems to have parts all throughout the forest, so he must be pretty old, the previous deku trees would have rotted away by that point. I'm not saying it's the same deku tree, that's almost impossible, but I don't think that many deku trees would be scattered around. It would be awesome to think that some, if not all trees, could be descendants of the deku trees.

If you take notice of where the Dragons spawn they typically follow the ravines and canyons, Dinrael spawns and flies through both the canyon that holds the forgotten temple and the one that acts as a barrier to the north of Hyrule. He in fact spawns directly south of the northern lomei ruins in the little area that seems almost artificially carved out of the canyon, so my theory is that by flying through these canyons they over time slowly reshape the land of Hyrule, for what reason I don't know, but I assume that a lot of the canyons along with dueling peaks weren't present at some point. In fact if we assume BOTW is on the Child Timeline than there wouldn't be any room for the Zoras domain from TP on BOTWs map, unless we assume that the huge canyon to the north and west use to not exist, which would make plenty of room for both Zoras domain and also a expanded Snowpeak.

dude...i have the perfect theory, It definitely was a dragon, maybe you thought that the current deities are not capable of such a feat of strength on their own, but my theory is that it was a dragon, but not it was not farosh, it was naydra. As we can see life has been growing in the middle of the dueling peaks for quite some time now, that must mean that this happened a long time ago, let's say two hundred years. Before calamity ganon woke up from it's slumber he had to ensure that all the cards would be in his favor, so in order to keep the goddesses from interfering with it's plans he poisoned the dragon spirit Naydra with malice scaring the other guardian dragons in the process and also preventing any possible aid from the goddesses. Hurt, the dragon did it's best to free it's body from the nefarious attack with no effect; enraged the deity smashed his way into the mountain splitting it in half, but that hadn't worked either. With no other choice the dragon went to mount Lanayru to meditate for years until the hero freed it from the curse allowing it to roam freely once again. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Sorry i got carried away XD

I think it was the ancient hero Link from 10,000 year ago practicing at the behest of the ancient Princess Zelda as they prepared for Ganon's return. While looking at the mountain, the ancient hero Link got the bright idea to see what would happen if he overpowered the beam sword technique as much as he possibly could. Not only did he split the mountain in half by accident, but he also dug a trench right through it that was filled-in by a river, earning a scolding by a now irate Zelda. With a quick "Well EXCUUUUUUSE me, Princess!" he high-tailed it out of there on a whirlwind with a toot of his Recorder, leaving the people wondering WTF happened.

What if, once upon a time, the Lost Woods were not where they are in BOTW, but they were east of the Dueling Peaks. If we put the map of the Ocarina of Time Hyrule next to that of BOTW, then it would make sense that the Lost Woods were located in the southeast, bordering/being part of the Faron Woods. Also, the West Necluda field actually looks like a bowl that could house an island as big as the Lost Woods (perhaps Mekar Island could fit inside Oakle's Navel or Lake Siela). There is a theory that the Great Plateau and the Lost Woods swapped positions, but if we look at the map of Ocarina of Time, then it would make more sense that the Lost Woods came from Necluda, the Great Plateau from where the Lost Woods are now and that there was nothing in the location where the Great Plateau is now, because the Regencia River and the Digdogg lake could be the Gerudo River (Lower Zora's River) which Epona jump over when the bridge was destroyed and which used to flow into Lake Hylia. Now its course is blocked by the Great Plateau, but at the foot of the Great Plateau the remains of the riverbed and the waterfall are still visible and there is even a ruin that could be the laboratory. That being said, if the Lost Woods were located in the bowl that is West Necluda field (or the Blatchery Plain), and it was at some point removed, then that suddenly creates the necessity of a passage through the mountain. Before the removal of the Lost Woods, Necluda was a plateau that could be accessed by walking up- or downhill. After the removal, Necluda was suddenly a valley with walls on almost all sides, which also meant that if no passage was created, all river would fill up the area with water, creating a lake or a swamp.

I do like your theory! I think that Farosh did split it, though, because! I think the Sheikah worked *with* the dragons to create their shrines. Why else would you require dragon parts to open the Shrines of Power, Wisdom, and Courage? The dragons are messengers of the Golden Goddesses. Hylia is the champion of the Golden Goddesses (subcontracting her job out to Link & Zelda...). So what if Farosh split the mountain "to create a passage" because he was *asked* to by the Sheikah? What if they wanted the mountain split for the sake of Hyrule (much easier to get the materials around the country if you to through the mountain instead of over it, after all), and since the Divine Beasts and Shrines were part of a larger Divine Plan that Hylia was in on (she doesn't seem surprised, after all, by any of this), then I'm sure Farosh would be amenable. Perhaps we'll learn *why* in BOTW2? (Especially if the theories re: time travel are accurate at all?). Still - you're right about the fact that truth falls into legend falls into hazy memory, so of course the stories could be off. I love these theory vids :)

Your comment is like 2 years old BUT I think I have the answer as to why. And I don’t know how no one pointed this out; it has to do with the Zonai tribe. The Sheikah and the Zonai have obviously had connection in the past-from the labyrinths to the trial of thunder shrines, Typhlo ruin shrines… it’s clear they’ve once worked together. And as you’ve said, some shrines required dragon parts so the Sheikah have been involved with the dragons. However, the main symbol the Zonai seem to worship and work with are also the dragons, as seen in their architecture. Most importantly, if you take a look at the location of the Dueling Peaks, you can see that Kakariko Village is on the north side… with the most prominent Zonai ruins being on the south. See where I’m going with this? I think that the Zonai and Sheikah met up mostly on the dueling peaks over 10,000 years ago to make connections with their technological advancements. Eventually for some reason the Zonai and Sheikah have conflict (one of the reasons why the Zonai could have left Hyrule) and things get too intense, especially with their lands being so close. So perhaps Farosh, being unbiased and peaceful as possible, not wanting both tribes they love to fight with each other, breaks the mountain into two, preventing (or at least slowing down) interaction. Of course the tale of this has faded over time, but after this breakup, it became known as the Dueling Peaks due to that potential duel. After the Zonai left, the Sheikah could have built the shrines on the mountains seen in current day.

Theory idea: at the Snowfield Stable, there is a character named a Monkton, who talks about Harry and Mary, both children Monkton played with, who, sadly, both passed away. Mary fell down a cliff, and Harry got lost in a maze. But what happened in the maze. Did he just die of starvation, or the cold? Did a monster kill him, perhaps a lynel? Is Harry even dead? Or is he disguised in another character? I’d love if you could make a theory talking about this. Great theory as always

I personally think that Farosh did split the mountain, but no for her/him, it’s actually for explorers that had moved away and wanted to start a new colony, but when they reached the mountain ( before the dueling peaks was split apart) many of them were sick and tired and they ran out of medicine and supplies. So Farosh was passing by and took pity for the travelers and decided to split the mountain in half so they could get across

My theory is the following: You can see farosh fly trough a not so deep, but artificial looking valley on the Gerudo peak. This implies that farosh shaped this valley by flying the same path for a really long time. This can be further supported by the some rock formations of this small valley looking like haven broken apart and fallen down. The split of the dueling peaks could therebye have been the path of some dragon for a long time, maybe farosh or some dead river dragon, because of the river flowing between the peaks. Maybe the giant canyon and the canyon in which the lanayru road sits in could have also been created in this way by dinral and naydra?

If you look at where the duelling peak is. You can see from a farther point of view that there is no clear way around the mountains other than straight through, perhaps in those ancient times dragons and hylians lived together and possibly any one of the dragons split the mountain into two for the hylians. I mean other than that there is no way to get to the other side of the mountain without climbing mountains or going a long way around. Kind of a long shot but hey that's what theories are.

I personally subscribe to the idea that since going through the mountain is the quickest way the king mentions to get to Kakariko Village, at some point the people asked the dragons to create a path through the mountain so they didn’t have to go around or over. After all, the Sheikah are really important to the kingdom Hyrule and would need to get to the castle as quickly as possible in a moment of need. This being prior to the advent of teleportation.

I was interested about the last part of theory you said, about dragons tending to be very territorial. While this is indeed true, perhaps the split was for the good of Hyrule. Perhaps there was 2 dragons wanting this land. So they split it in half to share both sides of what is now The Duelling Peaks. This would be for the better of the kingdom as now there is more accessible way to get to Kakariko Village for people on the west side of Hyrule. And yes there is a Bokoblin Camp along the path. That probably was not there before during it’s main time of use. It’s in an interesting topic for sure, but overall loved the video HG keep up with the great stuff!

The river itself might also be a result of the catastrophic damage that split the mountain in half. Perhaps the river originally went around the mountain... but when the mountain was cleaved in a Violent Event, it also opened a gash in the land that the river surged through instead of being held in its previous banks. Perhaps Blatchery Plain used to be underwater contiguous with Lake Siela, fed by the river before the flow was diverted. This second bit is a bit of a stretch... but it'd also be fun to theroize that, as the mountain was rising and being pushed from beneath by geologic processes, it was also being cut in half by the river at the same rate. So there was never one whole mountain, always two, with the river cutting it in half like a wire cuts cheese.

I think there is plenty of evidence to say Dragons existed in Hyrule, though they may have been rare. Afterall one of the weapon types you can get off monsters later on is Dragon Bone weapons, and you pointed out that there are dragon skeletons around the map. That being said, I think you are probably wrong regarding the dueling peaks. Shay's story explains it well enough, and given the two shrines up there are directly linked to each other, it seems that the mountain has been that way for over 10,000 years. It likely happened sometime between Ocarina of Time (or Twilight Princess) and the events 10,000 years earlier. It's also safe to say that the three dragons are over 10,000 years old as there is at least one shine in the game (DLC) that involves interacting with Din. That same quest also sort of implies that normal people can see the dragons... Anyhow, propose that the mountain wasn't split in a single instance, but instead as a result of multiple passes of the dragon over the course of years or decades. Shay's story is a myth, but may have some truth to it, and with the dragons all have similar paths they fly every day, Farosh may have just slowly eroded the mountain in half. It's possible Lanayru Promenade was created in a similar manner from Naydra. Regardless of what any of us think though, these things were likely made specifically vague in order to cause us fan to draw various conclusions. I doubt anything is actually written in stone, and unless BOTW 2 had some relevance to it, we likely will never get a solid answer.

I think it was a mixture of all but also taluses being made out of the rock because there is an abundance of them in the area, to clarify I think that taluses are made from a mixture of the rock, some kind of important thing/holy thingy like the dragon for the dueling peaks 3, blood of the people who lived in deya village, the igneo taluses would be because calamity ganon is part of the reason why it is erupting so they are relatively new, the one in hyrule castle is obvious seeing as it is in the soldiers area of a destroyed castle, this next one is harder the one on the route to rito village is on one of the only paths there with a monster camp right beside it so that is the reason for that one, great plato one is in the ruins of the OG castle town, I don't have one for the hole filled rock shelf by hateno tower or any of the frost taluses, I know trial of the sword is supposed to be an illusion but that dumb so I think it's because it's another dimension and it needs a talus, this whole comment is one sentance so that's a thing, the one just off of the great plato is right by some ruins, I have no proof of the next one but the igneo talus titan I think is built over a Gordon Graveyard and that's why it has so much importance enough to be huge, then the one in faron in those rock shelfs each with a mini boss on one and that's right next to a dragon route Same with the one by mount lanayru, and that is it this was a very long comment thank you to reading and for a reward here is my favorite emoji mixture:🐒💩

My theory is that Farosh split the mountain in half in order to help the people pass through it, rather than let them dangerously attempt to climb around it. You mentioned how Farosh's lightning wouldn't have any affect on the mountain, which is true, but I think Farosh rather used his large horn to split it, which is a proper shape for tunneling through the mountain. It should also be noted that in game it's stated that Farosh has nothing against the people, so him helping them isn't too far-fetched.

If it was farosh, the one reason why it would do it is to get water in-and-or out of the necluda region. Not sure if anyone else mentioned it, but, on the summit in the Gerudo Highlands (I believe), there is an updraft. At certain times of night, Farosh flies very low through there, and every time his feet hit against the ground there, and knock into/shift snow. It's possible that Farosh wasn't trying to harm the land at all, but it just started to happen over time, until something shifted completely. I always wondered why he didn't just fly higher (obviously it's at least partly to add to the majesty of the dragons as viewed by the player), since they fly into portals IN the sky. Then I started to wonder if maybe this detail was a nod to something else. (i.e. a dragon causing the land to change in another location). While playing recently, in farming parts from Naydra, when she went to fly up into the portal after being hit, she actually hit one of the rocky hills or whatever above the promenade. There was no obvious change, but there was a loud sound and some visual indication it happened. I'd never seen that before. I do also agree with the person who said that the river looks natural. Maybe it was a kind of underground river? Maybe the mountain was weakened by Farosh, and then split open in the calamity. There being an abundance of various creatures/monsters in the past also makes sense, and they don't all necessarily exclude each other.

Coming across this video after some years, with Tears of the Kingdom and what we know now, may I suggest that the Dark Skeletons in Hyrule's underworld, and all of the dragon bones scattered across Hyrule, paint a picture of why Draconification was forbidden? It wasn't the first time some idiot swallowed a stone, turned into a dark dragon, and wrecked havoc across Hyrule, prompting some Zonai or other to also undergo the procedure to fight them and wipe them out. "Immortality" in this sense probably means long-lived, not immune to damage and impossible to kill. VERY hard to damage, but again, not impossible to kill. I can't say what happened for sure to Dueling Peaks, because in TotK's beginning era, it was a whole mountain, but all the dragon bones scattered around and what we know of Draconification suggests that there were any number of dragon battles over the ages. It could even be that Farosh battled some non-Secret Stone-beget dragon, or even an incarnation of Calamity Ganon (who said it only happened just once in the ancient past?) and caused the split down the mountain in the battle?

I think these ancient dragons came in many physical shapes and sizes because the remains seem bigger the the 3 we see in botw. Also they might have had a sort of divine aura that destroys anything around it, so if a dragon similar to farosh, nydra and dinral was knocked into dualing peaks its divine aura could have carved right through it
