What if you know what you're craving?... should you satisfy it or eat something else?
@weebalicious73196 ай бұрын
@@romahnaeDepends on what your goal is. If your goal is to lose weight, then absolutely resist the urge to eat something unhealthy or would make you have a guilty conscience. If your goal is to be healthy, every once in a while, a “cheat-meal” or craving doesn’t hurt. Here’s an overall tip: Find a replacement for your craving, something healthier; heck, try making it at home in a healthier way through KZfaq recipes. If you don’t want to do this and indulge, because the real thing is always better than the replacement, then limit your consumption of it. I know it may be hard, but just take “one slice” or “one piece” or a limited amount of calories worth. Either way, good luck on your goals.

This entire time I just assumed Ben does this by doing OMAD (one meal a day) aka he fasts for pretty much 23 hours a day and has one gigantic 2000 calorie meal in one sitting. Quite easy to maintain your weight and hell you'd even lose weight gradually as long as you do basic activity ie some walks here and there.

According to most research, there is not much deviation in metabolism from person to person. The major differences would be male/female and body size. People who are taller and bigger have higher metabolisms, and males have a higher resting metabolisms probably just by virtue of being bigger. But you rarely see someone who has a crazy metabolism like 4k cals a day without some kind of thyroid issue, which has its own set of problems.

I’m much older now and, though overweight, I seem to have reached some balance where I eat what I want, don’t do anything to really “work it off,” but maintain the same weight. I actually feel full more quickly than I used to…unless it’s pizza and can easily eat half a large (17-18”) one in a single sitting. Also, I only do crunchy items at Taco Bell if I’m eating there or in my car. 5-10 min. trip home (or 30+ mins. delivery!) just gets too soggy.

According to my Apple Watch health data, my resting calories based on past 6 months for an average day is 1,828 and my average active calories is 533 calories which means I need to average 2,361 calories per day. Some days I easily eat 3,000 calories then feel bleh and some days I barely eating 1,000 - 1,500 calories so over the course of a week I tend to average about 2,000 to 2,500 calories per day depending how hungry or not I feel. Although during winter, I tend to put 1KG to 1.5KG of weight on because it’s cold in the UK and I end up eating random warm/hot food from Greggs and other bakery places but I always drop that weight gained during spring/summer when it’s much warm and I am eating much lighter and healthier foods. The most effective way to increase your metabolic rate long term is putting on muscle. That way you can eat more while not putting on as much fat. It is true that at some point in a strict diet your body will slow down your metabolism, it wants to hold onto the fat which essentially is just a survival mechanism. A caloric deficit is still a caloric deficit though, even if the weight loss slows down, if you're in an actual deficit you'll continue to lose weight over time.
@aaron53206 ай бұрын
No most effective way to flatout get higher metabolic rate is gain bunch of fat. To get higher daily expenditure just start walking more or doing other form of cardio.
@yahboip6 ай бұрын
Metabolic rate is the boogeyman of fitness. Your maintenance won’t change drastically from a couple pounds of muscle and ‘Boosting’ it by re-feeding while dieting really doesn’t have much of an effect on anything in the long term. The majority of the population exists within a 250 cal variance anyways. Thats only about 20 min on the treadmill. The only people that should be worried about re-feeding are bodybuilders on prep. For everyone else just hit the treadmill
@Ceph_Killer6 ай бұрын
@@aaron5320 I absolutely agree that adding in some light cardio is a great addition for many reasons, i do 30 minutes every morning myself. Though cardio alone will not let you, for example, eat 1000-2000 calories extra without gaining fat unless you do excessive amounts of it. Adding 10-20 pounds of muscle to your frame on the other hand can yield those results over time. All in the context of getting a higher metabolic rate/increasing daily expenditure without putting on unnecessary fat ofc.
@Ceph_Killer6 ай бұрын
@@yahboip I would argue that these bmr calculators for the most part are bs yes but your maintenance calories changing is definitely a huge deal if you take the gym seriously for a couple years. My maintenance when i was obese and untrained was about 1500-1600, after losing that excessive fat and lifting weights consistently for about 3 years my maintenance now lies at about 2200-2500 depending on my current activity level. So even though i can't recommend these bmr calculators for the most part, i would still try to figure the maintenance first by adjusting it for 1-2 weeks until your weight doesn't significantly change at all in any direction and then go from there. It's annoying but at least it's a starting point. 🍔
@yahboip6 ай бұрын
@@Ceph_Killer No amount of muscle will allow you to increase your bmr by 1000 lmao. A lb of muscle burns about 6 cal per day at rest. If you put on 20 lb of pure contractile tissue (very difficult) that only increases your bmr by 120 cals which is half a snickers bar. Your weightlifting and cardio activity is what actually has significant impact on your bmr

Metabolism having a huge influence on your weight gain/loss is a MYTH. Your metabolism regulates based off of your activity levels so your metabolism doesn't dictate your weight; it's your activity level that dictates your weight gain/loss. People often use metabolism as an excuse as to why they're overweight or underweight but in reality its their lifestyle and diet. If you are active with a healthy diet then there is zero reason for your metabolism to be wonky.
