What prescriptions did you hope to receive? Did your doctor say you needed scrips or you ask your doctor for them at the appointment? What did he/she say? You could have asked what the lab results meant if you had followed up at your next visit. If you prefer to go to another doctor and repeat the process, that is your prerogative, but it seems so much simpler to just go back to the doctor as scheduled to review thenlabs they performed. I am not sure what you were expecting.

I have NEVER EVER seen a KZfaq channel grow so fast. I was recovering from a major shoulder surgery when I "found" MDJ channel, and she had about 25K subscribers and that was about 6 months ago - now she has 195K?! That's CRAZY fast!! Amazing! I wish her all the success in the world, growing her channel taking care of women, delivering babies, and other hopes and dreams! :-)

This is such a great idea.~ So many women go through miscarriage silently, and it can be abrupt, scary, and lacking information... I had an induced abortion at 26 weeks because our fetus’ heart had stopped. We couldn’t do a regular abortion/miscarriage because we were too far along and the fetus was too large. I hadn’t gone to birthing classes yet (as we were still technically 2nd term) and really had only tv show knowledge of how things felt/happened. My husband was a fish out of water. A video or video series on all types of embryo/fetus loss would be very beneficial! PS: my heart goes out to all mommies and their partners on their losses. I hope that we can get more comprehensive and common knowledge out there for everyone.~~~

This actually makes a lot more sense to me now. When I had my first two children, I had a dedicated OBY/GN. I could schedule whatever day and time and I would always see that same doctor. This was down south. I moved way up North and the experience is completely different. Here you don’t have a doctor, you have a group. So when I had my last son there were 6 different doctors that I rotated through depending on when I could make my appointment. I had no clue who would deliver my baby. To be honest I hated the whole experience with group doctors. I never really got to know any of my doctors well and it felt like a stranger delivering my baby as I had only seen that particular doctor twice during my entire pregnancy. I’m pregnant again and found a different group this time, I feel like it’s a bit better and ive already met 3 of the doctors and I’m still in my first trimester. It’s definitely a more positive experience with this group this time around. However I still prefer one doctor over a group, but now at least I understand...it makes for a better work/home life for the doctors.
@Handicrafti
@Handicrafti 4 жыл бұрын
I had the group experience, too and I HATED it. It felt so impersonal. The line of "you need to meet all the doctors so when it comes time for delivery, it's not a stranger" was such a crock of bull. I had two doctors during delivery, and I had never met either of them before!

@@Handicrafti That's awful! It happens to so many women .. Strange doctor delivering their baby. It's no big deal to the Dr. Is IS a huge deal to the woman. Job for them; very important, scary, dangerous, intense, vulnerable experience to the woman.

Looking back, I was so lucky! I had a practice of two female doctors that I really liked. I had one of them for both of my babies as opposed to a complete stranger from another practice covering for them if neither was available. I think I verified up front that barring any disaster, one of them would be there. No residents ( strangers ) either. They got to the hospital when I did. Whew.

@@suseq949 So it's funny. I just had my second baby and guess who delivered my baby? The same doctor who delivered the first one! We had a laugh because the only time I've met this woman has been when she's delivering my babies! The second time went a lot easier. Three sets of pushes and he was out. However, I now know what it's like to be awake during a D and C. I do not advise. It was so much more traumatizing than the actual delivery (my placenta wouldn't deliver)

They should have like every doctor on this schedule. I think it would make doctors much more creative and thorough because they wouldn’t be exhausted, just going through the motions, and in survival mode just trying to keep up. I love hearing this. I have heard obgyn has one of the highest burnout rates. I am a SAHM, but my hubby is an engineer working 55 hours a week and he is getting burnt out, so we’re looking into solutions for that. It’s so hard to find balance, but so important.

In my non-medical opinion, the main cause of burnout is feeling like you are a puppet on a string. If you have more control over your circumstances, you feel better mentally. The best type of job, in my opinion, is one where you use your intelligence, your intuition, and your social skills as much or as little as you want every day.

Just a heads up, it can be a complicated subject. Like big time. There are two types, plus everyone's bodies are different u fortunately. I myself was diagnosed late last year after after a miscarriage the year before... however... the type I have is a thickening of the ovary (only one... which is actually pretty common) I was offered ZERO help or info from the gyno. But through my own research I learnt alot, like the typical symptoms I had and those I really didn't. However, even being told I'd struggle like hell to get pregnant... I'm now 30+ weeks with a little girl now with no medical help like ivf etc. Yes I am only 29, and have been "trying" or not preventing for a long time, it is possible for many women to fall pregnant naturally. So maybe speak with your doctors and see what kind of testing they can do for you, and find out if you may or may not need some help in getting pregnant, and find out some stuff online as well so you can have questions for them :). I hope you are coping well with being diagnosed and that if you plan on starting a family that your process to achieve that dream isn't too difficult :) x

I have PCOS and went through 8 years of infertility. I don't know what country you're in, but to give you an idea of how it works in Canada, at least with me, is this: Baseline bloodtests to see if you're ovulating, if you have eggs, and if you have good quality eggs. They'll also check thyroid levels among other things. If you need help ovulating they'll try a few rounds of Clomid (pill) along with something to induce a period first. If that doesn't work they'll try letrozole (pill) along with the same period inducing medication. There are side effects to all of these. If neither works they might try laparoscopic ovarian drilling, but if that does nothing you'll likely get referred to a fertility clinic with a reproductive specialist, most have one month to one year+ waitlists. After that your options might be an IUI that involves injecting hormones into yourself for days and a trigger shot to make you ovulate, or, as it was in my case, you might overreact to the hormones and have to convert to IVF - which happens in cases where more than 5 follicles are developing. The one thing I would highly recommend doing right from the beginning is having your doctor check that both you and your partner have the correct number of chromosomes and that they are all in the right spot (simple blood test) as it can affect how your cells split when creating embryos and can also cause infertility, high miscarriage rates, birth defects, and infant mortality if there are chromosomal defects. Best of luck to you!

I wondered why my OB/Gyn is "booked" (in quotations because I dont think many people realize that their OB/Gyn that they see for their yearly visit does SO MUCH over the course of the day, not just routine exams) so far out in advance if I need to schedule a visit, but this makes sense to me. You've got to have just the right balance of scheduled clinic appointments and enough wiggle room to do deliveries or unexpected procedures as well. So this helps me, as a patient, to understand and not get frustrated when I can't be seen right away. I'll have to spread this info to all my lady friends

Lots of overtime for me, but a very stressful schedule. It gave me a higher appreciation for good Physicians. I saw how exhausted my employer was. Her schedule was grueling. I would personally be terrified to have a c section in the middle of the night knowing my Doctor had been up over 24 hours. I don't know how OBGYNs don't fall apart with the schedule!!! I'm a part-time occupational therapy assistant. Part-time for me means I work 4 days of the week instead of 5 days and I still do weekends. I love my job but I could do without the crazy schedule; it would be nice knowing when I got off work before walking out the door at the end of the day.

@@solesuna agreed! But I remember the first gyno was like kay this isn't working and then took her gloves off and left the room. I find the gyno super humiliating as is so that experience just made me super self conscious. And I refused to go to a gyno for months until my pelvic floor started spasming and I had no idea what was happening. It was a MESS! I was hoping there'd be a video [or a future video] about it because it's very common.

I absolutely love you and your personality. I am a certified nurse midwife in Maryland. I have been in practice for a 7 years. I also have 4 children(singletons). It is funny we really don’t realize how complicated our schedules sound to other people. I work full time and am lead midwife taking 1 in 3 call. Luckily we don’t cover weekends. My husband is a truck driver and only comes home on most weekends. I have a live in nanny right now but now that I look back I have no idea how I and my children survived when I did not have family or a steady childcare provider. At that time in my career I was entering practice and worked 1 in 4 week days and 1 in 4 weekends with mandatory in house call. Anyway, as you know I can talk about the crazy schedule scenarios for ever. You have an amazing schedule. I wish my employer would extend that option to me(believe me I have tried). Anyway keep doing your videos. I love we have professionals like you in our field willing to make these informative videos to correct/clarify people’s beliefs of some topics. I love how some comments say...so basically you work full time...🤪. In the “normal” world, I guess you do. In the medical world it is part time.

Hi Mama Doctor Jones! I have been enjoying your video’s! They are very interesting, I love learning about medical stuff! Have you ever considered making a video about the contradictions of other medications and birth control? Some medications say they (may) effect the working of contraception. (For example modafinil and pitolisant) Is this only for hormonal birth control? Or also the non-hormonal IUD? And would it still be advised to use this kind of birthcontrol for extra safety in combination with a condom even though it might be less reliable? Or doesn’t this add anything? And what about the morning after pill in case something goes wrong with the condom? Is it still reliable? It would be very interesting to hear your opinion about this! :)

Love your videos! Q.. with such a crazy schedule, how do you sort out child care? I imagine you can't get away with just regular daycare? Does your partner have a flexible work schedule? Or maybe a very predictable schedule? Do you have a nanny? My husband/baby daddy and I both work full time but have pretty predictable schedules and we sometimes even struggle to make sure we have child care lined up when we have late work meetings etc.

for those who don’t understand why this is *part time* - as a (now retired) trauma physician, my *good* work weeks were *70 hours* - when I was on backup call, they pushed *90* and my group was 3x larger that dr j’s. no way could I have had kids and done this. my sleep patterns are *still* awful 🤷‍♀️. and hubs + 5 younger sibs were *thrilled* when I chose early retirement. just now really getting to know my 14 nieces & nephews - two wanna go into medicine, but into research.😉

Growing in a small town we only had 1 doctor practice with 3 family doctors. They had to also deliver all the babies. I don't think they ever saw their family or slept. The waiting room would be wall to wall people because someone went into labor. They would stay until every patient was seen then visit patients in the hospital to read scripture to them and pray. Age caught up to them so the hospital built a clinic and recruited an ob-gyn. What a blessing that you can do what you love and have a day off during the week.

When I was about 10 weeks along, I had my first ultrasound and OB visit. Husband came along for the ultrasound, but I told him to go back to work for the OB appointment, as I had to get a pap smear and figured he didn't want to be around for that. I'm glad I did---after I changed into the paper gown, a nurse tells me that my OB was running to the nearby hospital to deliver a baby. I opted to wait for her to return rather than find another opening and ask for even more sick time off work. She was back in about 40 minutes, but still. It was both funny and frustrating to be stuck in the gown in a small exam room for 40 minutes. But I totally understand that babies come when they want, not when the doctor has no clinic appointments scheduled.
