Lately, it seems like everyone and their grandma is talking about quitting KZfaq. And hey, before you jump on my case, hear me out. I've watched some of those videos, not all of them because honestly, I'm not a big KZfaq watcher myself. I'm more about making videos to teach photography, you know?
As a woman, it's even harder. I'm constantly walking this tightrope between being criticized for showing too much or not enough. It's exhausting, and it takes a toll on my mental health.

Vanessa... no pun intended, but you are an absolute joy to watch, and follow. I've done so for years. You've played a part in my photography journey and I can't thank you enough. Creators such as yourself, Thomas Heaton, and several others have played a big part in my development as a photographer. I started it simply as a side hobby over 15 years ago as a way to spend time with my son. Since then, it's been folks like yourself that have shared so much valuable information and insights that has now landed me in a position in which I manage a group of over 50 photographers. You played a part in my personal journey, and I can't thank you enough for you, and your channel. I had the chance to meet you briefly at ImagingUSA expo at the National Harbor in Maryland, and it was great to meet you in person. Never let the schoolyard comments take you down. For some reason, social media makes everyone think that they can say things that they would never say in person. But it's just noise. Your success is yours alone. Who F@#*% cares what other think, especially if it's negative. Your positivity is contagious and and I appreciate your success. And thanks to contributing to mine!

I have been watching and admiring you for so very long. You inspired me to purchase my Canon EOS R5 as a retirement gift to myself. I have to tell you I love this camera and all that I have learned from you. I am a complete novice. I'm so glad you're not leaving KZfaq. You call your detractors trolls I call them gutless keyboard warriors. They hide behind a keyboard spewing their vomit, saying things they'd never say to you in person. I've been playing with cameras off and on for a very long time. I bought my first 35mm 2 weeks before my son was born and he turned 50 in March. There isn't a video of yours I've watched that I have not learned something. You're such a great asset to the photography community. There are only a few very accomplished photographers willing to share their knowledge and experiences with those of us who are less talented and you're one of them. Thank you for taking the time to create these videos. All my best to you and yours.

I find it hard to believe that there are people who have the time to criticize your videos. I find it even harder to believe that there are stupid people who criticize the way you dress (I think you are a beautiful woman and every outfit you wear looks amazing on you) but beyond that, the important thing here is the content of your channel. It has helped me a lot to grow as a photographer and I only have words of gratitude. I don't dare to tell you what to do but I'm a believer of the ideology "don't listen to assholes". In the end, those interactions (the negative ones) are still generating numbers on youtube that help to position your videos. Oscar Wilde once said: "the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about". I hope you don't let the bad comments affect you. Kisses to Loki!!!

Dear Vanessa. I have been a subscriber to your channel now for about a year or so and love your content! I think its awesome that you are so passionate about your cameras and lenses (I am a Canon lover myself) and photography in general. The fact you put together these video's helps not just myself but tons of people just getting started. Don't let the haters and miserable shitheads get you down. They just look for reasons to bring others down because they are just miserable souls with even more miserable lives. If you stay true to yourself the hell with everyone else. Vanessa, as always you are on point. I am a big fan, and have learned a lot from your videos over the years that has helped me tremendously with my photo and video business. Thank you for being strong enough to share. Can definitely relate, My wife's Cooking Channel is at 40k subs, and even at that size of channel we get our share of trolls, I can only imagine over 100k... Currently we have taken and extended break from KZfaq, but have continued IG...we are planning to start releasing some new videos very soon because of the supportive fans that asked and are worried what happened...when we get messages of fans saying "OMG tried the recipe and it's just like my Granda's, she is no longer with us...brings back awesome memories". And so many may others along the same lines, that is what keeps us going. Again Thank you for all you do.

I haven't shot a wedding in 60 years. When I was a teenager, I bought out a retiring wedding photog and began shooting weddings with a 4x5 speed graphic while processing and printing in my basement darkroom. I did so for a couple of years and my clients were pleased with my products. However, I knew that I could do better, but there was no one to whom I could go for advice. I was discouraged with my progress and quit. Had something like your site been available at that time, I could have learned from a master and would, perhaps, have made a career of it. Don't let the jealousy of others get to you. Hang in there and keep up the good work.

Honestly, the shame around sponsored videos, ads, and making money is the stupidest thing. Those same people who are giving us a hard time because we have a sponsor spot will go watch Super Bowl ads and be cool with them. It's like when a big company advertises, they don't care, but when a small business owner does, all of a sudden, it's a crime. 🤷♂ Thanks for sharing this!

You got a dog! Yay! I hope you are taking lots of photos of your puppy. Your book on flash photography is still my go to. I hope you all are doing well. I've been busy and busy getting older, lol. Just keep doing what you love to do. There will always be negative people and negative circumstances in this life. My p/t job I deal with all kinds of people. Some can be really mean and for no reason. Forgiveness is easier said than done but it's a must. I have to remember to count my blessings and know I have that sure Hope for the future. I totally empathise. In a completely different field (community charity work), the consequence-free, fire-and-forget comments on un-moderated social media have unfortunately driven me to quit. The ‘democratisation’ of social media seems simply to empower trolls, while decent, quiet, yet supportive folk are drowned out. Your videos, attitude, humour and professionalism are inspirational. im certainly sticking around. I want to say thank you for all that you do. And I also just want to say how awesome and amazing you are. Im 45 now. I picked up my first camera when I was 9. But is was always a hobby. And an expensive one that was just out of reach as a youth. About 10 or 12 years ago I got to a place where I could afford all the nice gear. Right before Covid hit, I started by my own business. It didnt really get going until last year. All this to say, I just recently discovered you on KZfaq. I absolutely love your passion for both the art and the business. I have been binge watching your videos and found you to not just be full of incredible knowledge but also to be a huge rejuvenating inspiration. I havent signed up for insiders yet but that is coming. So again, thank you for this video and thank you for all that you do. You absolutely make the world a better place. .............. and the middle fingers to the camera. yeah, chef's kiss. that was fantastic.

I have enjoyed your videos and you have rekindled my studies from youth when I took photography classes . It is never to late to learn or relearn skills . Knowledge is never wasted and we all should do more to share our skills with those who seek help .

I deal with the general public every day, and I would like to think that I have good customer service skills. But the thing is there is always that one person that goes out of there way to antagonize and not get a long with anyone. For me propriety doesn't always give me much wiggle room, but then there are those who make your day a little more bearable. You are one of the few that have found your passion and we are fortunate that you are willing to share your knowledge with people like us that would like to change the path that we are on. Thank You
